What are you drinking right now?
Gallo White Zinfindel, not chilled.
now would that be, Bud? or . . . Bud Lite?
For some reason I like Bud Lite better.
Budvar
Staropramen
Braník
Stella Artois
Blue Moon
Breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, good-night snack.
now would that be, Bud? or . . . Bud Lite?
For some reason I like Bud Lite better.
Bud.
I just had a glass of water. I'm thinking I might have a drink tonight though. It'll either be a nice crisp chardy or a/several G & T/s with lime.

odd to think you're on tomorrow already.
Still Valentines Day here. beest did not take me up on the offer of doing the taxes and wills, so instead he's sat 10 feet away in ther next room and we're IMing
(he's testing/setting up a laptop we bought for his mum)
I just has a new laptop delivered today. It's very cool although I'm still on the mac now. The new one is for the kids to do their stuff on without destroying files that Dazza and I need on our computers.
New comp for the kids?
Ours got the old one
Well the old one they were using kicked the bucket a few weeks ago. It was so old it didn't even run half the games they wanted to play. The kids do a reasonable amount of browsing too, so they'll take a lot less time now.
Dazza and I both have perfectly good computers, but they've got stuff on them that we can't afford to lose or have infected with viruses etc. We're just not willing to run the risk of the kids doing something wrong and crashing them.
Hence the new comp. It's not just theirs. It's more the family comp, but I'd say they'll use it more than either of us.
no drinking on the laptops!
Drinking on laptops leads to spending money unnecessarily. ;)
Why don't they come with cupholders? Everything else over here does. We've tried the cd player, but it just can't support a full bottle, plus it keeps trying to retract...
Well I'm not going to worry too much about it. The kids are banned from having food or drink near the computers anyway, so hopefully it wont be a prob for us. :)
the rule ( when the kids were younger ) was NO drinks around the key board , then the FIRST week my wife spilled a glass of wine on/in the key board , I fixed it , but she still got us a new one the next day.
oh Blurblin and coke
Evian water--yuck, tastes like plastic. I *wish* I had some nice hot coffee, it's freezing in here!
Just had a mug of Rhubarb & Blackberry tea.
Forgot it until it was lukewarm then gulped it down - feel like a big bag of bloat now.
Coffee with sweetener and ultrapasteurized creamlike vanilla-flavored fluid fatty substance.
Tea. Earl Grey. Hot.
:D
Hazelnut and French Roast with organic half & half, Stevia sweetener, and Pumpkin Spice floated on top. :p
Tea. Earl Grey. Hot.
for the longest time, i thought he was saying 'L- Grade' I had never heard of Earl Grey. duh.
so, where'd ya get the replicator?
Oolong loose leaf tea from a local coffee house. Not crazy about it. Smells wonderful, but a bit bitter. Will try their other one some other morning.

Me too! :morncoff:Of course it is the breakfast of champions!

I just bought some oolong from a chinese place in Portland. It is weak and not bitter at all. I am just wondering why your oolong is bitter?? Where was yours manufactured? What brand? Mine is a cheap brand from China. Grand Tea Co.
that powdered creamer is nothing but hydrogenated vegetable oil and sugar. Even real cream is better for you.
tea, tea, more tea, diet coke, coffee, tea, diet coke, tea, tea, tea, diet coke...
and my tea mug holds a British pint :D
and my tea mug holds a British pint :D
Mine too! Is yours see-through?
People keep making comments about thinking mine was a measuring jug. Harharhar. How bloody weird do they think I am that I'd be drinking out of a measuring jug?!
Am now drinking my last cup of the day.
no, ceramic. And we have a lot of them. No point messing about with dainty cups and sticking the pinkie out when it come to the daily tea ration :D
My mug!
And I've left the pic uncropped so you can see that the word of the day is "fagot"
looks like it's time to put the kettle on again (and clean the screen  )
Hey I have a mug just like that. came with a tea infuser.
But this here's Texas, and we drink ICED tea--and a hell of a lot of it.
um...what is the theme again?
JC--SG! GD killer fingernails, bitch! AWESOME!
um...what is the theme again?
oookay--whatever it is YOU'RE drinking must be packing a wallop!
:p
Just finished a can of Dr. Pepper, first one in YEARS. It was wonderful.
Ginger Ale.
I have a sinus infection.
Amber Bock.
My closest convenience store has a very limited choice of beer.
so what does "fagot" mean? I know a faggot is a bundle of sticks. (Rumor is that homosexuals were burned at the stake along with witches in the Middle Ages, which gave rise to the term. But I think that's just a rumor.)
warm milk.
Nobody say nuthin.
Well, it ain't Grape Nehi.
Full Sail Amber, "12 fluid ounces of ridiculously tasty original amber ale concocted by our massive brewforce of 47." They print it with an underscored space for the number.
A horrible cup of coffee, from a place that's supposed to be famous for good coffee. Tastes like it's been cooking too long. Barf.
close....
although now it's back to the tea and diet coke regime.
Jamocha shake from Arbys.
Well, it ain't Grape Nehi.
What is that? I know it's what Radar always drank on MASH, but I have no idea what it is. Also I always imagined it was 'knee-high'.
I am rather drunk on a combination of Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio. So much for my resolution to cut down alcohol......am currently sipping a greentea in the hope of staving off tomorrow's hangover.
It's grape soda, very purple. I think they make other flavors too, like orange and "red" (strawberry maybe?)
Omegang something or other, tastes like wood shavings in pond water.
I have a whole, unopened bottle of absinthe from Prague. It intimidates me.
I think I'll have a bit of Becherovka later.
1 pint of coffee (fully caffeinated) ... time to go to work soon!
I have a whole, unopened bottle of absinthe from Prague. It intimidates me.
Hmm....I have some rather vague memories of an interesting absinthe soaked weekend a few years ago. Me, Judah, my bro and a couple of others.....a couple of bottles of good, strong continental absinthe...that's about as much as I recall:P
I hear oozo and coke is good . . . but I'm afraid!
Right now: St. Pauli Girl Special Dark.
Ouzo or raki, all the same. I found I prefer taking my raki without a splash of water --a traditional way of taking it, sort of the East-Med answer to bourbon-and-branch -- as this somehow caused me to twitch, whereas drinking it unmixed did not. No idea why.
However, chasing one's drinks at the evening's end with half a liter of water will do much to relieve a hangover, most of whose symptoms are caused by dehydration. Metabolizing alcohol will dry you out, which is why Mohammed forbade his followers to drink wine -- desert weather will dry you out quite sufficiently without help. Having a store of water in you for your body to draw on will literally keep your humours in balance.
Apple Lucozade.
Bleurgh. Why mess with a classic?
Yorkshire Tea, fully caffeinated, well stewed and dark brackish brown.
Sock it to me...!
Bleurgh. Why mess with a classic?
Apple>>>Lemon>>>Original>>>Orange>>>Citrus>>>Those purple ones.
23.5 oz. can of JOLT! Don't fuck with me! :worried:
rasberry iced tea from KFC.
In about 10 minutes, EXP Syrah. I hope it's good!
Vintage unflavored seltzer.
To the EXTREME, bay-bee!
Not flat, unflavored. Carbonated water.
But right now I've gor Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr Pepper. Also carbonated.
right now i'm drinking wawa coffe with cream that has gone 'cool' sitting here on my desk. gimme a kiss.
Homemade Gatorade. I buy the big 3 pound cans of it and make it meself.
I make a big 32 oz bottle of it when I leave work then leave it in the frig so its nice and cold for the next day.
Mmmmmmm. Ice cold Gatorade. Lemon lime tho. None of that taste-bud exploding watermelon-head fruity stuff for me.

I make a 32 oz. serving in a 16 oz. bottle to drink before my cardio workouts. I'm addicted to the extreme grape, or whatever it's called.
Right now, I'm drinking a huge slug of Diet Mountain Dew.
A bottle of Dr Pepper...it's so good...it's like a drug, really.
Just had a can of Rolling Rock with dinner.
How on earth did you get Rolling Rock in Missouri? Leftovers from the move, or what?
We've had Rolling Rock in St. Louis forever...it's easily available at supermarkets. Some bars carry it as well.
capn n coke----quickly, thru a straw

sorry you had a long week, but don't fucking dump on me for no reason. i'm in no mood.
but don't fucking dump on me for no reason. i'm in no mood.
Ahh Fuck you , you red faced cock puppet !!!!! ;) ;) ;)
Penfolds Semilion Savignon Blanc

i need some sting on my tounge man. i wanna know im alive when i hit that bottle damn it!!
well, apart from the bags of cash and free cocaine we get.
Cocaine?! Oooh...I need to re-consider my line of work.
Why isn't this under food and drink?
Americana Winery Watkins Glen NY- Sweet Rosie mmm... cheap sweet red wine
Pilsner Urquell
I wish I could find Braník or Staropramen around here...PU and Budvar don't cut it.
Note to self: Remember to try Gambrinus
mmmm, milk. BGH free at that.
Homemade instant hot cocoa. (made with Droste cocoa powder)
Why isn't this under food and drink?
Good question.
Now it is.
Good question.
I thought it was there because it's a game/time waster thread...
My favorite libation!
Pyramid Apricot Ale!
Good question.
Now it is.
That's exactly why. Just a mood of the moment thread.
But it's good here, too!
My favorite libation!
Pyramid Apricot Ale!
I wish I had that! All I have is Lager (a.k.a. Yuengling).
I'd say all the kiddies are downing Guinness and Irish whiskey right now. The Dublin Pub opened at 5.30 this morning with a big Irish breakfast and, of course, booze, booze, booze. I heard many kids talking about this phenom of St. Paddy's being on a Saturday and, whoa-doggies, they are a-gonna get their drunk ON.
I wish I had that! All I have is Lager (a.k.a. Yuengling).
Yuengling & Son -- ain't that the oldest commercial brewery in America?
Correct...founded in 1829.
Ah, sweet Yuengling...I miss you so much. Why oh why will they not market you nationwide?
Correct...founded in 1829.
Ah, sweet Yuengling...I miss you so much. Why oh why will they not market you nationwide?
I wonder if it is a quality control issue? Maybe they like and understand the market they have? They have expanded into NY but it seems like they had production difficulties when they grew. We need a Yuengling emoticon but we should limit access to Pennsyltuckians. ;)
I just started noticing Yuengling around the DC area a couple years ago. It's not bad, and cheap too. Me like.
A limited amount of Yuengling is shipped outside of Pennsylvania, but the company apparently won't open satellite breweries because of quality control issues. They keep the majority of the batches for sale here in Penna.
I thought they did have a satellite brewery, in Tampa.
I wonder how Rolling Rock pushed their beer beyond PA before A-B bought the brand. It was only produced in Latrobe until last summer.
I thought they did have a satellite brewery, in Tampa.
I thought so, too.
I can remember when Yuengling was a "cheap" beer. When major beers like Bud were $8 a case, Yeungling was $5. The good old days....
That was when a case of 16 oz. Gennessee Cream Ale returnable bottles was $5.00, too.
Gennesseein' is believin'. They still make that stuff?
I'm currently drinking a bottle of red cream soda...before that, I had two amaretto sours and a bottle of Bud Light.
Dr Pepper...it's fucking liquid crack!
Cool Blue Gatorade...another drink that is like liquid crack to me. I don't know what it is about this flavor...it's so good!
cheap ass coffee... and lots of it.
cowhead, do you remember when Dakota and I use to drink sugarfree kool-aid and cheap ass rum?
Iced Cofffee with cream. Yummmmmm.
White Ace.
Don't ask.
7.5% - 59p per 500ml can
(even without translating, just know that it's cheaper than a soft drink, which is 50p per 330ml can)
Killian's Red. Starting on my 3-day weekend, woo!
Stewart's Orange'n'Cream. The best nonalcoholic drink there is.
Homemade alcoholic fruit punch:
Take two apples, one pear, three bananas, a kiwi fruit, some orange juice and several large measures of vodka, get busy with the juicer and hey presto! instant drunk!
Chandon sparkling wine in Brut flavor.
Oh shit!!!
(note to self: keep your bubbly on ice!)
A Mocha Joe from BK, otherwise known as iced coffee. Yummy!
Spring water with a WaWa iced cappucino (double chocolate) on deck.
Orange juice with lots of pulp in it :)
If jello shots count, I'm waiting for them to be done...maybe...
no pulp!
Well not without vodka anyway. :D
I'm drinking coke from McDonalds right now, but when I get home, I'm gonna have a go at a nice chardy, then I might make a cocktail, and I might even finish off with a shot or two of Absynth. I've never actually tried it, mainly because you can rarely find it here because of the alcohol content, but I saw some in the bottle shop the other day, so decided I'd give it a go.
BTW, I intend to be pretty shit faced by the time I go to bed. I might even make an appearance here at some stage. That should be fun for you all I'm sure.
Berghoff Famous Bock Beer
I've taken to drinking straight (60 proof) vanilla rum, over ice.
Absolutely nothing, but within 15 minutes I'll have a martini in my hand.
When I drink, it's normally Rolling Rock or Heineken. Pretty much anything that comes in a green bottle, I guess. :D
Good old H2O w/ice (also made of H2O).
:drunk: Carlsberg Special Brew (it's a once a year thang). Can No 3 and counting ...
I'm drinking in the warmth of the sun, baby.
Oh. Diet Coke.
Miller high life, the champanya of beers.
Alka-Seltzer Plus cold medicine...
Edison Light Beer: "Kiss your corporate light beer goodbye. Smoother, easy-drinking Edison brings new energy to light. Learn more at
edisonbeer.com Cheers!" [punctuation as original]
The beer comes from the same place my family has lived in for many generations -- Hingham MA. Sundry generations of my people are buried in its churchyard.
Or does it? One source on Googling says it's Hingham; the Edison Independent Light Beer website says company headquarters is in Randolph MA. The brewery that makes the brand is located in Utica NY -- an outfit called Matt Brewing Company, picked for its combination of quality and proximity to Eastern markets.
The beer is indeed smooth, but frankly it's
too light -- I go for more body. Its lightness may serve well on a hot and humid summer day, though -- which would be Hingham at its hottest, and points south.
For a thoroughly local feast then, hit the Hingham Lobster Pound for a couple pounds of fried clams a head (go there hungry) and a couple of Edisons for go-with.
I should tell Mom and Dad about this stuff. They're from that neighborhood.
Iced tea and Iced coffee--not together, though. I alternate them. By 9pm, I'm all wired up-- but I love the stuff.
Water. It's freakin' hot. I'm waiting for the A/C to start actually cooling things down. Oh the misery. How long until winter?
Mmmm, iced tea. It's What's For Supper?!
H2Odwalla, blueberry flavor.
Our "house wine", the Kendall-Jackson Chardonnay.
A tequila and red juice concoction, in a leftover Halloween goblet with a spider on it. Not my idea, but it's tasty.
motherphuckin captain and diet coke. yeah? at least I know monster's real name now.
From GABBLY CHAT perchance, which is forbidden to me?
Damn.
it's not forbidden. you just need to upgrade yer junk.
edit: ps. we had to beat it out of her, too.
Chai. A little too milky, but good. I let it cool before drinking, but love the smell of it.
chocolate milk. a guilty pleasure.
Well, not right now.
It has a Horny Toad on it:
That looks like a choking hazard.
Icy cold Grolsh.
Well, the off licence has had a run on Stella since installing fridges without doors (it used to be in the corner and a devil to get to)
Oddly, the Perfectly Cold Indicator on the side of the can is not blue. So it is not perfectly cold. From this I discern that Grolsh is at the correct temperature when it is cold enough for the rim of the can to stick to your tongue.
Grolsch comes in cans?
Why drink it out of anything but the bottle with the ceramic cap?
I'm drinking coffee. It's my morning right now.
The ceramic caps are plastic now. But you can still get that "nose hit" when you pop it. The Skunkier, The Drunkier
Then my last reason to drink Grolsch is gone.
Very sad.
It still looks ceramic, the same way that plastic sushi looks like sushi.
Grolsch comes in cans?
Why drink it out of anything but the bottle with the ceramic cap?
Because cans are lighter to carry, easier to dispose of... and anyway they don't sell the bottles in my local off licence.
Water. I'm considering getting myself a cup of tea.
Diet Dr Pepper...haven't had one in forever. Don't drink much soda these days.
cans keep beer fresher, too
Aaah, the uisge. What else!? ;)
fresh goats milk in my coffee
Good stuff there Uisge?
You betcha, Griff. It's one of the three whiskies I have on hand, as opposed to the three whiskeys also in the cabinet (Scotch vs. bourbon here). Lagavulin is nice and smooth, with solid (but not overpowering) peat and smoky elements.
Heh, everybody's going to picture me as some kind of lush. This is when I'm glad that the good stuff is expensive; I can't afford to drink that much!
Coffee with lots of cream and sugar.
Haven't decided what my morning beverage will be. Will keep you posted.
I just finished the last of yesterdays cold press, I slept about 2 hours and had to take a pain pill. So's I wash it down with Folgers French Roast, over Ice.
According to Miller's
Brew Blog:
Miller’s take on a classic Mexican beer recipe, Miller Chill is a superpremium light beer brewed with a hint of lime and salt.
I've been asking myself whether I should try it or not.
The food and beverage industry has a tendency to take a good idea, and produce a product that tastes nothing like the description.
On the one hand I thought "Beer with Lime and Salt" sounds great. On the othe hand, it could be a NOVELTY BEER... anybody remember Tequiza?
The six-packs were taunting me. How can I buy six of these things; what if they're nasty? Then I saw the "singles" - maybe I could try just one? But this presents another problem: if I actually like it, then I haven't got another one! My solution: I bought a single Chill, and a six-pack of Miller Lites.
The verdict?
Whatever you're drinking, send me some NOW before I find freshfuck and beat the crap out of him just on principle.
Errr... Well, RIGHT now, I'm actually drinking S.Pellegrino, sparkling Italian mineral water, with a splash of organic, not-from-concentrate lemon juice.
The new Acai-Blueberry-Pomegranate Vitam Water...Awesome. Awesome to the max.
Iced coffee now...but Friday happy hour is nigh. Mojitos, anyone? :yum:
I just finished a glass of rose and a bottle of IPA. Am thinking of moving on to a latte.....is 9pm too late to be drinking coffee? Will I regret it? Probably, but y'know when nothing but a really creamy latte will do?
Go for it! The warm milk will counteract the caffeine.
Well, maybe it will.
Fuck it....gonna live dangerously....okay, when I was 18 that meant scoring some speed, but now it means drinking coffee after 9pm....ohmigod, I got old.
No, no, you haven't gotten old, Dana. You are just coming into your wisdom, my young friend.
You betcha, Griff. It's one of the three whiskies I have on hand, as opposed to the three whiskeys also in the cabinet (Scotch vs. bourbon here). Lagavulin is nice and smooth, with solid (but not overpowering) peat and smoky elements.
I've at least a dozen assorted single-malts, mostly twelve years old, in the liquor cabinet, ranging from discreet to lapel-grabbing.
Heh, everybody's going to picture me as some kind of lush. This is when I'm glad that the good stuff is expensive; I can't afford to drink that much!
You got that right! Life's too short for mediocre booze.
A sort of vinegar-ade: glass of water, two-three teaspoons of vinegar, couple of teaspoons of honey. I usually add some clear fiber powder too.
If you like honey with lemon for easing your throat, this is good too.
fresh goats milk in my coffee
duuuude?
i assume that tastes fuckin nasty. jinx says she thinks it would be fine.
it's a whole thing now. we need a play by play of this process, if you please.
thanks evar so much.
the
helms
cranberry juice COCKtail and ginger ale
Diet Squirt...too late to drink a beer...don't want to fuck up my sleep tonight.
fresh squeezed orange juice
I'm drinking a nice big cup of STFU.
A large glass of Grenache:)

Amber Bock.

Amber Bock is my favorite and sadly, our nearest store only carries it in 12 packs
ran nout of grenache....moved onto Fursty Ferret ale.
water with a squeeze of lime juice
calories and alcohol :D
well I was, I just ran out, so now I have tea (brit style)
XS Energy, the Tropical Blast one. I like the Cranberry-Grape flavor better, but I'm out of that one.
Water water water - its all thats left anymore - everything else is 100 calories or full of crap!
This getting in shape crap is rather limiting.
Brisk Iced Tea, only cause we're out of bottled water though (No, I'm not a snob, our well hasn't been tested for a while and my dad doesn't trust it. So there. :P)
Diet Pepsi. I caved and went for the caffeine instead of what I should have done and gone for the ice water.
water
btw- picked up the stainless steel water bottle for work etc...
since I've come home after work this eve, it's been:
water
coffee
water
Bud Lite
juice
and that's all folks
last nite I had to get up 3 times to pee. Gee, wonder why?
Stopped and got some water before I came home, so I've got my usual assortment of bottles around me now :D
started with a couple landshark lagers and followed by a couple smirnoff mojitos.
urp.
A good old fashioned Martini - 3 parts gin (Bombay Sapphire, since you ask), 1 part Martini (dry), one olive - stirred not shaken  .
Fizzy water and de-caff tea
Been on the wagon since the weekend
24 oz. Wawa hazelnut coffee with half & half and 4 sugars.
Classic's definitely Eastern Time Zone... haven't hit a WaWa since last time I was in New Jersey.
Mint iced tea: two of the quart teabags of Lipton Cold Brew to the gallon, but with the resulting half strength brew enhanced by keeping the entire gallon pretty warm over a burner running at bare minimum and a flame-tamer, plus a large teaball full of dried mint leaves from the middle-eastern grocery near here.
4th glass of wine - home alone on a Friday night - this is truly pathetic...
I am so bored.
It was red, of course, and it was a very good, very cheap Cab - ($7.00)
Meridian '05 even better than the Walnut Crest ($5.00) I usually get.
Lemonade.
It's the only cold, non-alcoholic thing in the house.
Damn parents not having squash (grumble, grumble)
Had a few Grolsh with Dad last night
got rrrrather a dry mouth this morning
champagne with a shot of lemonchello. Tastes almost like a shandy only better.
Wow!
I'd say I've gotta try it, but at present I have champagne tastes and lemonade funds ;)
Out of creamer!!! Earl Grey tea for breakfast.
:(
Out of creamer!!! Earl Grey tea for breakfast.
:(
Love the Earl Grey but not enough caffeine to start me up.
right now: a dis
gusting Diet Pepsi.
yeeeeech!
...clear, cool, water... ahhhhhhh...
I'm planting blueberry bushes today, got much thirst.
A chilled glass of Gallo Syrah Rose
Taking it slowly as I won't be having any more after this
champagne again...and I've cooked myself some chorizo sausage and haloumi along with some taramsalata with turkish bread.
Very yummy little party I'm having here all by myself. (Dazza and the kids have gone fishing this weekend)
Why haven't they invented teleporting yet?!
I want some of that!
Hey...I'm thinking of heading over to Germany later on this year, but probably stop over in London for a couple of days. What's the chances of you being my tour guide? We'll have to go see Dana of course, and there's a couple of other people I'd probably want to catch up with too, but that'd be fun wouldn't it? :) Specially if you've got that corsette by then. lol
Yes, yes, yesyesyes!
Tell me your dates and I'll take time off. It would be a treat.
Then we can work out what you want to see and I'll be all geeky and suggest an iternary - which you can of course keep if we meet and you can't stand me!
I imagine you'll have people to see & things to do, but whether you fancy a river trip to Greenwich, cocktails at Smollenky's on the Strand, tea at the Ritz, a London Walk, jellied eels in a Pie n Mash Shop - I'll be up for it. You may have guessed I love this city and I'm happy to show it off.
lol...well the planning is in its infancy just at the moment, and I may be bringing my girlfriend libby with me too, so you might have more than one of us to cope with. It'll probably be in late july/early august and it'll depend on us selling our house first. But hopefully that'll happen, and then I'll be all set. But yes, I would probably like to spend a week or so in England and see a bit of the countryside moreso than the city, but it'd be great to check out the local hot spots, and of course, I will need to see a couple of pubs while I'm there. From London I plan on getting a rail pass through Europe and stopping in France for a few days then on to Berlin where my cousin lives. Then through Asia and home.
Maybe if you're up to it, you might like to jump on the train with me over to France even. I don't speak French, so I'm likely to make a complete balls up of it on my own. lol
Well if HM isn't working I might be able to lend him to you (as he has a car!)
We could certainly all take a trip out to Bucks - where we're from - my parents are very hospitable and Dad at least would be happy to run us out to a country pub for dinner.
I'm pencilling you in!
A rather pleasant House of Commons Claret. *smiles*
Was bought for me about two years ago as a birthday pressie, and it's been waiting for a special day. Decided on the spur of the moment that Friday's victory was worthy of celebration......and besides we'd run out of wine...
Coke with ice.
@ Dana...congradulations on your victory AND your claret.
water - finally just plain old clean, clear, fresh, cold, water. I drank way too much wine over the weekend!
Guinness after a long day at work. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..... :guinness:
Only if Binky's head is shaved.
Water, out of a Dr. Pepper can. Is it weird that I habitually fill my empty soda cans with water after I finish the soda? Drinking out of a can is so much nicer than a glass, for some reason...
Horrors of yesteryear:
- Having a milk bottle on the table - milk was always in jugs!
- Having a sauce bottle on the table - ketchup & brown sauce were always decanted into squeezy containers
- Drinking out of anything other than a cup/ glass. My Nan genuinely believed rats and mice peed on every single can, especially if bought from a store run by Indians.
Yes, it's weird btw. But pleased to see we've moved on!
I am drinking Diamond White. Which I shouldn't. But once I finish this I'm going to bed like a good girl and not drinking anything else.
2% milk directly out of the paper quart bottle. (They don't sell 1% in this size)
Propel. cuz I have to do too many situps if I drink Vitaminwater. the commercial told me so.
The Dew.
It went well with the free pizza!
Apple juice - no sugar added.
I'm not sure what to drink...Diet Dr Pepper, grape juice or milk? I'd love to open this bottle of riesling I have, but I have a job interview at 2 and I work at 5.
Let's see...soda, purple stuff, oh! Sunny D!
Vodkat Rose
I tis the grimmest thing I have ever tasted.
Seriously thinking of tipping it down the sink.
Either that or go & get my Diet Coke from work to dilute it :)
I just finished off the first can of diet Pepsi for the day. I'm trying to decide if I want chocolate cherry dr pepper or caramel delight Pepsi next. I'm home from work due to stupidity today so I have lots to choose from.
Some kind of screw cap malbec at my MIL's house.
We just spent 7 1/2 hours and $5500.00 at IKEA. Wholly mackeral. I am about done and it wasn't even my $.
But, guess who gets to whap all this stuff together?
Remind me to explain (if I haven't before) the male/female point theory. Not now though.
Holy crap, dude! Is that for your house, or your MIL's?
Wish beer. Raised high in celebration.
The only Ikea item I didn't put together myself was the wardrobe in this room. I can't remember the exact amount of time it took HM, but I seem to recall it was three times longer than anything had ever taken me - including a double bed, chest of drawers etc.
The Diet Coke is making the vodkat mostly drinkable, but is bound to keep me awake. That and worrying about Dylan, who is awol AGAIN. Second time in two weeks.
And I have my date-no-date tomorrow night. Fat chance of turning up for that all bright eyed and bushy tailed now! Self-sabotage. Threfuge of the truly desperate.
Holy crap, dude! Is that for your house, or your MIL's?
It is totally for MIL's, hence not my coin. (she doesn't love me that much)
I did pick up a few smallish things there today. But crap. I couldn't imagine working there. By 2 pm all the employees had blazed and the few one could find were surly and short.
more malbec!
SG you're just in training! You'll be in peak form in case he's a double bagger.
Walnut Crest '05 Cab Sauv
But crap. I couldn't imagine working there. By 2 pm all the employees had blazed and the few one could find were surly and short.
The best laugh I had in years was reading the Ikea recruitment ads. If I could be arsed, I'd set up an Ikea Honesty Forum, with the comments fed directly back to HQ. Most people I know appreciate their low cost furniture. EVERYONE (and this now crosses continents) hates their stores, the staff, the experience. All I can assume is that Northern European ethics make it work, and without them it is the 7th circle of hell.
SG you're just in training! You'll be in peak form in case he's a double bagger.
He so wasn't ;)
Coffee. French press, ground whole foods, "island blend". If anyone likes coffee, one thing I can do is make a good pot.

When in Rome...water
OMG, do you know what fish do in water?
yep...and lots of other things happen in water too. I can't imagine how much bird shit I'm drinking too!
Buffalo Bill's Brewery's Original Pumpkin Ale.
Punkin ales are becoming something of a seasonal traditon. Pyramid makes a famous one. BBB's OPA presents as less grainy and lighter-bodied, with a fruity note to it. Pyramid's is more pumpkin-y, or pumpkin pie-ish (had two slices of that tonight, virtuously sugar free), but either will do nicely.
Rum n coke. Teh housemate is trying to get me onto various wines, but ... yuck. No offense to the wine-drinkers out there.
At 11:00 in the morning? What a lush!!! :) I envy that!
I am having coffee with brown sugar. It appears as if I ran out of regular sugar and am almost out of half and half....The gross part? I think the brown sugar is about a year old, and I have been trying to chip at it like an iceberg, with a spoon.
-chuckles- I'm only a lush on days ending in y... when I don't have to work. Or drive. Like today when I have the day off and it's raining to beat the band and cold outside.
St. Peter's Cream Stout.
Oh. My. God. So good. Get some.

Put it in a hot oven for a minute to dry it out and it'll soften right up. (remove from plastic bag first)
But the burning Plastic bag adds that smokey flavor !!
The same caffeine free diet cola for the last few hours. I guess I'm not very thirsty.
Brown sugar is great in coffee. mm
Put it in a hot oven for a minute to dry it out and it'll soften right up. (remove from plastic bag first)
Microwave for a few seconds and you don't have to take it out of the bag.
But you'll get cancer and your sex organs will fall off.
Nonsense, the time it takes to soften the sugar, nothing even gets warm.
Coffee with cream for me. Now in the old days I might have run out and tried the stout. I believe the liquor store here opens at 9:00am on Sunday. :drunk:
Instant coffee, with milk and sugar. Third cup of the day... which considering I didn't actually surface until almost 2pm (eek!) is probably too much.
Fizzy water and peppermint tea.

I've noticed since the snowstorm that my tap water is superchlorinated. The smell is overpowering when filling the sink to do dishes.
Shiner Commerator.
I've mostly lost my taste for beer, so I've been drinking wine lately. However, I notice that wine disturbs my sleep patterns, so it's back to beer. But I only like watery beer anymore, so . . . Bud Lite.

I think I need a glass of wine actually.
I'm considering a beer with dinner. I'm gonna grill some Chicken thighs with a side of freshly harvested wild mushrooms.

I drink the diet stuff which is carbonated so the CO2 displaces some of the H2O in a given volume and you don't have to pee as much.
I'm trying not to add to the transportation of bottled water so I get mine from the tap. I'm mithering about getting a soda stream to gazify our tap water ....

Bah, time is a human construct, based on natural phenomena. There's nothing more natural than a man drinking, so let them alter the time construct to fit that natural phenomena.
Then after a few drinks nobody will give a pig's poopy. ;)
I drink a lot of ginger ale.
I absolutely love ginger ale. The real stuff: Goslings, Reeds, etc. the stuff that burns on the way down.
Evan Williams, tonight, on the rocks.
Boredom and depression, neat.
Ginger ale - the cheap stuff from IGA.
Coffee black in a couple minutes.
Decaf... The world doesn't need nor want a caffeinated Classic.
Cooffffeeee. Was up til 3am after the movie last night. Just about time to open presents with the kids now....
Finished off the last of our Greek Mastiha
Bud Light by the bucket in T-minus 1 hour.
Give or take 15 minutes.
Elijah Craig bourbon whit a splash of ginger ale.
That sounds :yum:.
I'm drinking really bad ginger ale, rfn. Wal-Mart's ginger ale is teh bleurgh.
Fairly Grim Cheap Merlot left by Banana Lady. Was looking forward to nice red wine after long hard day at work, only to find there wasn't any and the local purveyor of said wine was closed. Tried to make do, but it's a bit of a failure. Will probably resort to the usual sex-on-the-beach beer
It's amazing how Ginger Ale can be so good or so bad. When I was a kid it's the first thing I noticed adults having strong allegiance to a brand name.
If the word Ginger does not appear in the list of ingredients (look for the % to be at least 15 - 20). Then it's just ginger flavored hfcs.
Plenty of good brands - just look for the percent and cane sugar in the ingredients.
Gosling or Reeds are my top 2
I remember you mentioning those two before, Beestie. I'll have to try them.
I actually prefer the cheapest I've found, IGA/PriceLess' store brand. 76 cents for two liters.
It looks like Gosling and Reed's are ginger beers.
That's a different animal from ginger ale isn't it?
yes, imo
I like Canada dry Ginger Ale. That and just carbonated water are my two alternatives to Diet Coke in the soft drink department. Ginger beer has a real bite

Ginger beer is actually fermented (like beer) but has almost no alcohol. Ginger ale is carbonated water with ginger flavoring. If you get Ginger ale, check the label - some ginger ales (Canada Dry for a while) didn't have any ginger in it (due to public criticism, they now put a token amount of ginger in it - enough to include it in the list of ingredients).
And, yes, ginger beer burns on the way down. Some folks think it helps with digestion (maybe that's why they serve it with sushi).
Burns on the way up, too. ;)
As long as it doesn't burn on the way out...
...Some folks think it helps with digestion...
When I can't keep anything on my stomach, I drink flat ginger ale, and eat saltless saltine crackers.
Works sometimes.
I remember you mentioning those two before, Beestie. I'll have to try them.
Well, I tried Reed's Extra Ginger Brew. 26 grams of ginger in the 12 oz bottle.

There is a resemblance to something I've tasted before, and, I cannot identify the something it resembles, other than to say it tastes like mouthwash.
The first swallow is
good. Refreshingly so. After that first swallow, though, I'm done with it.
I'm glad, too. Costs too damn much for as much as I'd drink if I liked it as well as ginger ale.
I have a cheap and unsophisticated palate, apparently.
Back to IGA/Priceless.
Nothing, my cup is empty.
You have got to be a "Real" man to drink wake up juice. Once a long, long time ago... I was sitting with friends at the Bob's Big Boy on 17th Street in Santa Ana Ca. And Turkey (not his real name, the names were changed to protect the guilty.) bet me that I couldn't drink a water glass full of Tabasco Sauce with out puking. Since $20.00 was on the line, I was forced by nature to take said bet. Well to make a long story short. I didn't puke, I farted and cleared the restaurant. Our waiter Rudy the Rude said "i'm in the presence of greatness". The Manager was heard to exclaim that he also was in the "presence of greatness" And since these people had just come in nobody was bummed to see them go.

Well, I tried Reed's Extra Ginger Brew. 26 grams of ginger in the 12 oz bottle.

Reed's is good but because it is pricey, I opt for Goslings - a six pack of cans is about 4 bucks.
Vintage Wild Cherry Seltzer - it was on sale 2 for $1.00 for the 1 quart sized bottles.
I'm drinking a lot of wine. Taking a night off. I didn't get the job I wanted so I am lucky to have the two part-time jobs. I'm just a bit discouraged.

I'm enjoying an
Arnold Palmer, at the moment.
I just had a cup of Cinnamon-Orange MarketSpice Tea. It's very sweet. So sweet, I got the box out to read the ingredients. They claim no sugar. So I did a Google search and the website claims that it's naturally sweet from cinnamon and orange oils. Still, there is sugar in there, whether it's "natural" or added. There's sugar in that tea bag. I'd love to see it analyzed in a lab to know how much. It's unusually sweet.
Yummy, in case that's not clear from my rant.
Only because sugar is a generic term for all the sweet things in nature, of which there are many.
Sweet tea. Out of lemonade.
That used to be a regional drink but I think McDonalds nationalized it. I can't drink it though, just lemon in mine.
I'm about to try Perrier for the first time.

Drinking? Imbibing? How about absorbing, inhaling The KRAKEN!!!
Can you see the little legs (ha!) tentacles of liquid streaming down the inside of the globe, after evaporating and condensing at the top of the globe? The atmosphere in there is *highly* aromatic. I inhale through that little straw, not only but with a generous amount of bypass (there's probably a term for it, I don't know it, chime in if you do) to get a nice lungful of sweet boozy rummy air, and there's definitely a bit of a rush, albeit brief. Rum's good in this rig. Other booze, not so much.

So am I.
I'm having apple cranberry herbal tea just now as well. Last night was gin and bitter lemon. Crisp!

Sipping on sweet tea. I'm debating making sausage gravy and biscuits
Pretty tough night so I'm going to start with the hard stuff early. I've got an extra strong cup of Irish Breakfast tea steeping. Gonna' sweeten that with honey and eat some black bread with butter for breakfast
Bojangles unsweet tea. Mmmm. Better than any other iced tea I have ever had.
RFN, and lately, I'm drinking decaf iced tea with pomegranate/blueberry/acai juice in it. When you get the ratio juuuuust right, it's magical.

I had a glass of George Dickel's Rye Whiskey. My *last* glass, until the next bottle.
In other news, booze is expensive here in Washington, fuckyouverymuch Costco. There's about a 40% tax on booze, which puts the cost of my favorite scotch, Laphroaig, at about $0.10 per milliliter, or about $80 a bottle. That's... very dear. Twil and I recently returned from a lovely weekend in Canada (where my beloved Rat City Roller Girls took third place in the playoffs and are travelling to Portland in December for World Championships!!!). Back to the booze, a trip that long warrants a brief detour in the Last Chance To Leave Your Money In Canada Store (aka, duty free shop). Which I did. I picked up a couple bottles of Laphroaig (Quarter Cask, since you asked. You didn't ask? Ok, that was for free then) for $57 a bottle. This worked out to about $0.04 per milliliter, a 60% discount over my local cost. For the math geeks in the room, I'm factoring in the 1.30/1.00 exchange rate and no taxes and BONUS, thank you Canada for the metric system. Here in the good ol' U S of A, we buy booze in "fifths" but they're really just 750 mils. Canadian bottles are a full liter, a fucking third more booze for the same "sticker price", no taxes, and cheap Canadian peso.
Fuck Yeah, I lurve Canada.
I've been satisfying the Angel's Envy itch, lately.

Chocolate milk, thinned down with skim milk
When I was in elementary school, they had a rule that you weren't allowed to buy more than one chocolate milk. I don't know if it was just something the administration had come up with, or somehow it was helping them meet the nationally-imposed nutrition guidelines, or what. But I would buy one chocolate milk and one whole milk, and mix them together in an empty thermos my mom packed every day. Voila! A whole thermos full of chocolate milk.
I've [strike]drank drunk[/strike] been drinking skim so long that the chocolate (real) milk felt like gravy going down my throat.
Had to thin it down.

Viña Santa Rita Pinot Noir Aconcagua Valley 120 2015 [CHILE]. $8 on sale for $6. I don't usually bother with inexpensive Pinot Noirs 'cause they can be disappointing; but, this one had good reviews so I tried it ... and I liked it! Tasty and clean on the palate. Very nice at room temperature (not so much when chilled for those who only like wines cold). With 111,100 cases made, it's widely available. This one is for drinking soon, within a year, not for holding.

$6? The military is overpaid! :lol2:
It's refreshing to find a halfway decent Pinot Noir at this price point. I spent Thanksgiving at my sister's house and my BIL is a big time P.N. fan (also high end Cognacs). The bottle of P.N. I brought for the dinner table was $55. It was marvelous and that's what even a good deal on marvelous P.N. costs these days. It's why I thought to share my opinion of the inexpensive one. You can easily pay 3 times as much for other brands of P.N. of similar quality.
Ow you're ;re going to bb-pinging on the hills.
It's just regular Pepsi with no caffeine, not diet, or anything.

I think I would like hot tea, if I could find some hot tea that I like.
I drink iced tea fairly often, and I like that tea when it's still warm. Maybe 'cuz it's strong, all the hot teas I've tried tasted weak. I guess my taste buds need to be clobbered to wake up.
Can one drink hot orange & black pekoe blend tea, or is that frowned upon in this establishment?
Sundae sent me some UK tea years ago for Secret Santa, supposedly just basic grocery store stuff, and it was way stronger than any American tea I'd ever had. Excellent stuff.
Fill pot with water, bring to boil while adding one and a quarter cups of sugar or splenda. Make sure all is dissolved before adding two family sized Luzianne tea. Let boil for a few minutes then pour in large container. Fill pot , put tea bags in, bring to boil again. Pour into jug and top off with tap water. Makes ice tea with lemon maybe. I pour a cup and microwave it and cremora makes hot tea.

So, I called the pizza place back and the delivery driver brought me a case of beer with my pizza. Are you fucking kidding me? How awesome is that???
Yes, he got a really nice tip.
Ya hoo its Mountain Dew

Something with not NEARLY enough alcohol.
Soon I'm going to be drinking barrels full of tea, luscious flavorful minty green and black teas infused with lemony and peppery granules of flavorful flavors...
And by tea, I mean wine. ;)
Orange juice and Bacardi light.

Coffee. decaf. My tinnitus has been virtually unbearable lately. I thought it was from the Zoloft (which I stopped) but then deduced the only common denominator is/was the tea!
So, back to coffee the last two days and no more ringing. WTF?
It was your man alarm going off.
Ha hahahahahaaaaa Thanks Grav. Spit my damn coffee out my nose. You asshole.
A nice big strong spicey Bloody Mary !!!
What kind of tea was it? My mom has tinnitus and would do anything to relieve it.
It was your man alarm going off.
It was your man alarm going off.
bwaaaahahahahaha!
gotcha!
aaaanyhow.. My man alarm is going off as well. I wanted something sweet with dinner and I found a Strongbow Hard Apple Cider Cherry Blossom on the floor in the closet. It's... ok. Like a wine cooler. It *is* sweet though, so, mission accomplished.
What kind of tea was it? My mom has tinnitus and would do anything to relieve it.
My point in that post was that the tea was causing the tinnitus.
I am now rescinding that as they are tinging now and I haven't had tea in days. WTF??????? This IS aggravating as hell.
Sorry, I did understand, I just meant that she'd even stop drinking her favorite tea in order to relieve it.
Also sorry that it's back. Did you stop drinking the coffee? Maybe it's caffeine related.
Dunno what the deal is. Everything I drink is caffeine free or decaf...
Getting a little worried that its just something I gotta learn to deal with.
High octane Hazelnut coffee. Damn how I've missed you. Running another experiment to check on the relationship of caffeine influx and my GODDAMNED ears ringing.

I bet it is. Mountain Dew is popular with the X-Gamer crowd, along with Red Bull.
For me, hot black coffee and lots of it, for medicinal purposes.

I don't know about the ruby red variety, but, vodka and grapefruit juice is a Greyhound.

When I want to be DRUNK, I make a 21 Lengths. It's an original recipe based on my knowledge of horse racing and my favorite large coffee mug. The mug advertises Man O'War cigars...but just says "Man O'War." That was also the name of an extremely famous racehorse about 100 years ago or so; they called him Big Red in his racing days. His owner and another guy who owned a colt named Sir Barton were locked in one of those sporting hate-feuds and decided to have a match race to see which really was the better horse, since they hadn't run against each other. In horse racing a "length" is the average length of a horse's body from the furthest-forward point of its shoulder to the furthest-back part of its butt, usually about 7-8 feet but officially a "length" is 10 feet. So all the glitterati of the racing world in that era gathered to watch this hugely hyped up 2-horse race.
Man O'War dusted Sir Barton by 21 lengths.
Now if you take, say, 4 oz. of Sprite, a shot or 2 of vodka (depending on how bad you hate your liver), and a splash of any bright-red fruit juice (cranberry blends work great, though I use pomegranate since I despise cranberry), and serve it in a Man O'War mug, you end up naming it something weird like 21 Lengths.
Some years we get all fancy and do the Bucket O Blood. This one's seasonal because I insist on hand-juicing the blood oranges. Take the juice from about 2 blood oranges, pollute it with vodka and maybe a dash of a blood orange & passionfruit liqueur called Rated X, and throw in some fancy nautical theme novelty ice cubes, and enjoy in late winter & early spring. I have lots of nautical ice cube trays...skull & crossbones, shark fins, Titanic and iceberg, fish, you name it.
Maybe one of these days I'll remember and post the recipe for what started out as a homemade irish creme substitute and ended up getting named Chocolate-Covered Mule after my best friend tried a swig once and said "It's like getting kicked in the head by a chocolate-covered mule...and liking it!"
Just finished a can of Guinness' Nitro IPA. Unmemorable. I am in the land of craft beer and I've had many, many IPAs far more delicious than this one. The nitrogen bomb in the can does lend a velvety mouth feel, but that's not my highest priority for an IPA, or even a beer. I won't be buying any more of this one. In fact, that might be the sixth of six, bought months ago.
Now, Canadian Whiskey, straight from the bottle.

Yeah, I used to think it was sweetened with just honey, but a closer look at the label revealed the use of high fructose corn syrup. Liars!
Honey's just as much sugar as is corn syrup, it's not any healthier just because it was in a bee's mouth. And while I do prefer the taste of honey, I'd rather have corn syrup than Gunter's Buckwheat honey (bleah).
Point of order: honey is a monosaccharide, while corn syrup (and regular sugar, and all the other fake sugars except saccharin) are polysaccharides. It makes a difference.
I stand corrected.
But I maintain that buckwheat makes nasty honey.
Absolutely--buckwheat is nasty to begin with. Burning tires would make nasty honey too.

I stand partially uncorrected - honey and high-
fructose corn syrup are both primarily fructose and glucose, ie, monosaccharides.
So that part of my initial post was correct. Honey is equivalent to HFCS on that level. In fact, HFCS is more similar to honey than is regular corn syrup.
But the bee's mouth does in fact dissolve di- and poly-saccharides from nectar and pollen into monosaccharides, so it does matter that it was in the bee's mouth.
And, while not stated directly, the implication that all sugars, including those not mentioned in the post are equivalent was incorrect.
Sorry, man, I don't have it in me today. I shouldn't have said anything.
Faye my Diabetic Educator says that sugar is sugar, no matter what you call It. I'll grant you that honey is better for you than HFCS, and I would rather they use Bee vomit for our sweetening needs than HFCS.
God made Honey, man made HFCS. Who are you gonna trust?
If you are diabetic, and your only concern is your blood sugar level immediately post-digestion, then yeah. Sugar is sugar is grains is starches is fructose is all carbohydrates, even the tiny little fraction of it found in celery. It's a numbers game.
But if you have digestive disease, or any of a host of other diseases that are tied in with your body's ability to process, filter, methylate, alkalize, and run its other seemingly unconnected processes in the presence of long-lasting, persistent high blood sugar instead of a brief spike... then what kind matters.
12 hours later, after some rest, and you had some unfinished business to take care of.

Im drinking some chocolate Milk :) (Organic Whole)
Is this a racial reference?
Hey Dude, don't drink it plain
Take some chocolate and make it better-er-er
Remember, use whole milk never use skim
Then you can begin to make it more better
Blah, blah blah, blah blah blah blah, blah bleh
Oh, I forgot historically they generally made chocolate milk day old milk then later from skim.
I imagine there's at least a dozen choices these days.
Back in glass, yeah I'm back in glass! (AC/DC)
That's cool. NEPA has some good stuff going for it. Do they sell farm made ice cream there too?
This is bottled in NYS, I think. I should talk to my cousin he’s always thinking about ways to make his dairy more profitable. I think PA is a stricter state when it comes to food regulation.
In the summers when I visit a lake in the Honesdale/Carbondale area, my family members often disappear to go to the dairy, and they come back with milk and ice cream, in containers with no labels. I have no idea where they are going but they aren't gone for that long, so it must be in the area.
Chocolate milk.
Dis some funky milk. Waxy afterfeel in m'mouth.
Im also having chocolate Milk :)

Im drinking some chocolate Milk :) (Organic whole)
As per usual for this time of the day, it's a mug of tea.
I'm at one end of the house and Dad (also with cuppa) is at the other, watching the birds from his seat in the conservatory.
I filled up the feeders a little while ago which has attracted the attention of the local squirrels.
Every minute or two Dad invites them 'to leave the premises' in a tone and volume that would scare off a Brontosaurus.
I wish I had a conservatory.
I'd have people over, escort them into the conservatory.
And ask "What is a 'conservatory'?"
And when they told me it's a greenhouse, I'd throw a geranium at them.
Also I am not drinking nearly enough, nor early enough.
Today is going to be a Consumption Day.
Fuck a pill.
I wish I had a conservatory.

You're better off without one!
It gets so hot in there at times it's like having your own private blast furnace bolted to the back of the house.
Line it with solar collectors then spray the squirrels with hot water. :evil2:
This talk of conservatories reminds me that I need to go see what's going on in my greenhouse. The weather has been on and off snow for a few weeks, but today (and going forward) we're going to have 50+ degree weather (YAY!). Time to see what my overwintered plants are doing in there. :flower:

Shasta Cola - on the rock. Yep just one. But it's a big one.
Schweppe's Ginger Ale w/a splash of Ocean Spray Cranberry/Blackberry juice, man every drink, I say to myself "This rocks!"
Ha.
Just finished two Turkish coffees, mine and Twil's. The slight taste of cardamom is a pleasant change.
Ginger ale (Stars & Stripes, tis the bleurgh, but the 'rents brought it in on the cheap, 3 liters for something under a dollar. It tastes like it came from under a buck, too.:greenface)
ew.
At Chinook's last night before the competition, Twil and I each had a cocktail. She ordered a "Fisherman's Lemonade" which is lemonade and Midori and vodka (I think, no doubt about the Midori though). I ordered mumblemuble something Spiked Lemonade, which turned out to be cranberry with our friend vodka on board. The drinks were very tasty, but the most interesting thing in my opinion was how closely they resembled a pair of lowball glasses we have at home.
You be the judge:

don't do it. go whole or go water
don't do it.
That boat sailed a long time ago, sadly. I've been on the skim since Popdigr's bypass, 15+ yrs, now. The only time I know I'm not drinking milk is after drinking the genuine article at my buddy's house. Feels like cold gravy sliding down my throat, it's so thick.
Momdigr came up with some Canfield's Ginger Ale from somewhere.
It's ok.
Kentucky bourbon and Diet Coke, my usual. After doing some yard work this morning before it got too hot (currently 77 degrees), doing two loads of laundry, cleaning the kitchen/unloading the dishwasher/etc., eating lunch (yummy homemade chili), and setting up my new microwave oven and thoroughly reading the user manual, it's cocktail hour. Soon to be followed by nap time.
Will do the critter sitting later (sun doesn't set till just after 7 p.m. these days, so there's plenty of time for a bowl and a nice nappy).
Ahhhhhh.
Puts a whole new perspective on going bowling. ;)

RFN, ginger ale w/a splash of Black Raspberry sparkling water.
Evan Williams, on the rock.
It's the Bottled in Bond 100 proof it can take some ice. I said rock, 'cause I am using some ice from an ice mold given to me by one of my child-enablers. This one's a two inch diameter sphere, but I will have to use the two inch diameter d20 when I'm done with this drink.
What's the connection between what you're drinking and a two inch d20 die? Rolling for top?

If she could hit the bowl, she wouldn't need a nappy.
4-pack of Reed's Extra Ginger Brew. It's strong.
Separately: Shackleton Blended Malt. Named for and copied after the famous Antarctic explorer. Seems his team mislaid a case of Scotch which languished inside the ice cap for upwards of a century until somebody noticed something sticking up.
The stuff comes off like a Highland-style malt Scotch -- smoothly elusive, not overly peaty.
Of the Islays, Finlaggan is unique. They taste of the smoke; Finlaggan tastes of the fire.
Shasta cola...
Progressing to alcohol soon. If for no other reason than, y'know, drinking Shasta...

I have been greatly enjoying the Pineapple Strawberry flavor of La Croix, and I'm afraid they'll stop making it soon because the fad for their company in general is on the downswing. They won't go out of business entirely, but I don't really like any of their other flavors.

Now that surgery is long past, pulled the cork on my Springbank 10yo.
Spiritous bite to the nose, otherwise very hard to describe. Unlike any other single malt I've tasted. Sweet intially, like a Speyside, but without the graininess of many Speysides; indeed sweeter on the tongue than those Speysides. Whisky-spirits kind of finish, rather short, but powerful. If there is any peat, I can't find it. That said, there *is* some smoke, just enough to be Scottish I guess -- just not the blatant peatiness of the Islays.
Smooth, sweet, not subtle nor elusive.
Would go damned well with chocolate...
Have not attempted 'opening' it with a few drops of designer water.

Coffee.
… Researchers analyzed data from nine previously published studies with a total of more than 430,000 participants and found that drinking two additional cups of coffee a day was linked to a 44% lower risk of developing liver cirrhosis. ...
… Combined, the studies included 1,990 patients with cirrhosis. …
… “Cirrhosis is potentially fatal and there is no cure as such,” said lead study author Dr. Oliver Kennedy of Southampton University in the U.K.
“Therefore, it is significant that the risk of developing cirrhosis may be reduced by consumption of coffee, a cheap, ubiquitous and well-tolerated beverage,” Kennedy added by email. …
… Compared to no coffee consumption, researchers estimated one cup a day was tied to a 22% lower risk of cirrhosis. With two cups, the risk dropped by 43%, while it declined 57% for three cups and 65% with four cups. ...
… Cirrhosis kills more than one million people every year worldwide. It can be caused by hepatitis infections, excessive alcohol consumption, immune disorders, and fatty liver disease, which is tied to obesity and diabetes. …

I've said the hell with it and started drinking the wine I stashed away over the years.
The last two nights we enjoyed a 1980 McDowell Valley Vineyards Estate Bottled 1980 Syrah. California, Mendocino County, about 25 miles south.
40 years old, good cork and just a little sediment.
It has a great, mature nose and is what you hope for in a soft palate.
A bonus is that the winery's winemaker at the time, George Bursick, was a friend of mine and his name is on the label.
I should have started this with our two-weeks-ago 1996 "Knotty Vine" Zinfandel from Rodney Strong and a 1980 Parducci Petite Sirah before that.
Both had difficult corks and needed straining, but were otherwise very nice.
More reports to come.
Feeling better are you?

A St. Pat's tale from my Cellar.
To enhance a tasty (if I do say so myself) corned beef, potatoes and cabbage meal yesterday I opened a 1977 Sanford and Benedict Santa Inez Valley (Santa Barbara County) Cabernet Sauvignon.
My girlfriend and I bought several bottles of this and other wines at the winery in 1980.
We had a nice afternoon there with the facility almost to ourselves and shared our picnic with the eponymous owners and winemakers.
The place has grown tremendously and is now Sanford Winery even though Benedict is still around.
The wine was my fourth good one in a row. with a sound cork, good color, almost no oxidation, still lots of fruit in the nose and nice soft tannins.
The insulated but not cooled cabinet I built long ago seems to work well, keeping daily temperature fluctuation to a minimum.
I know I'll get a bottle of vinegar eventually, but so far so good.
keep these reports coming jim

Ah, Chloroquine-Primaquine. the weekly anti-malaria pill in Vietnam, guaranteed to give you the shits.
The daily one, mefloquine, was worse and may still be causing problems to vets, 50 years on.

FedGov is testing cloraquin on this virus. Don't skimp on Gin and tonic.
The Chinese were testing chloroquine. We're going with hydroxychloroquine, a derivative of chloroquine with fewer side effects than chloroquine or primaquine.
While there isn't an adverse drug interaction with hydroxychloroquine and alcohol, it is metabolized by the liver and excessive alcohol consumption can change how it works.

Canada Dry Bold Ginger Ale
It's not bad, but the extra ginger is doing something to the back of my throat I'm not too wild about.
Have to call this one a miss. YMMV
I wonder if it's like Verner's ginger ale? Love it can't get it here.
Bottles from the crypt, part 5.
This was actually last week's wine that took a while to fully appreciate.
It was a 1981 V. Sattui Cabernet Sauvignon from their Preston Vineyard in the Napa valley.
The exposed top of the cork was nasty with mold and perhaps other stuff. It came out in pieces and the smell of vinegar and worse filled the kitchen.
This was the dreaded volatile acidity (acetic acid) one fears with old wines.
And it tasted bad, too.
I opened an alternate recent purchase and left the old bottle on the sink with the cork out, expecting to pour it out in the morning.
When it came time for its demise, I poured a little for a final sniff and found the fault to have disappeared!
It was too early in the day to sip it, but by dinner time it still smelled good and tasted soft and mellow, if not award winning.
In my experience and reading, this is not supposed to happen, but it remained drinkable for a day or two.
So I learned a few things that didn't even come close to killing me.
# 6 tomorrow.
Wow, the Sattui came back from the dead! Tales from the crypt.
I'm confused by your statement, "It was too early in the day to sip it," what is that in English?
While I have never been shy about enjoying almost every kind of alcoholic beverage, they don't taste as good before breakfast or even lunch.
I worked around wine tasting rooms for years and grew suspicious as visitors made claims about how fresh and discerning their palates were in the morning and please could they have just a little more of that pinot noir.
Perhaps also contributory, when I was in college, there was a football season activity called "suds at sunrise," when kegs were killed by the dozens. I felt like shit all day afterwards and never knew who won the game.
So I usually keep my yard arm time around five.
I forgot to mention that my Sattui was number 15761 out of 29285 bottled.
I also just thought to look and I found a 1982 currently for sale for $100, and an '85 for $70.
Those prices aren't bad. I used to buy Bordeaux top growths. For instance, I bought a half case of the 1982 Château Haut-Brion at $55 a bottle in early '85. Then the newly evolving Chinese upper class latched onto Bordeaux wines as status symbols and drove prices through the roof. By the time I was opening my bottles with holiday meals, 20-25 years later, the price had already shot up into the hundreds of dollars each. Today you can get the price down to around $850 a bottle if you buy it by the case; but, a little over $1K each by the bottle. Not for me. I felt a bit crazy for indulging in the $55 bottles at the time. These days, that's nothing for good wines from anywhere.
Price in Pounds per case of 12.

Right now I’m drinking coffee with half and half. I’ve got the java jive and it’s got me.

As an employee of another winery at the time, it's likely I got the bottle at half-price, but it is hard to know what regular retail was then. $20 to $25?
The current vintages sell for about $50.
Drinking Nice cold Milk :) (Organic whole)
Be drinking nice cold milk once we go out and get some.
Guayaki Yerba Mate...Enlighten Mint flavor
I take my
mate amargo, sucked from the gourd. More
fuerza to the brew than what's in those cans. Not that flavored
mate is unknown at all, even in the half kilo bag.
Half(ish) full of la yerba out of the bag (looks like chopped alfalfa), wet down with cool water, then infused using justlukewarm water. It is
mate manners to drink the first, potentially bitter, gourdful yourself before infusing the next one for your guest. Very gradually, mixing cool water with hot, increase the infusing temperature with each succeeding gourdful. Your
mate is giving its best flavor when a little greenish foam is visible on top; foamless is pretty much spent, recharge your gourd with fresh yerba.
Some brands/blends include stems and twiglets -- these add a bit of something. Kind of bori-cha.
You do need the bombilla to drink with; it has a bulbous strainer, whence its name.
The wife says when I'm wearing rumpled khaki shorts of a summer day and drinking a gourdful that it makes me look like a rather demented planter of some interesting South American crop.
I kept getting mate, friend and wife mixed up.
Man you gotta pay closer attention, mixing up those three will bring nothing but pain.
Sure, you can do a nice gourd of mate with your mate. Handle knowledgeably. IOW, better than this level of wordplay.
The wine I pulled at random from my stash this week was a 1990 Zinfandel from Greenwood Ridge Vineyards in Philo, Mendocino County, California.
The winery is in the Anderson Valley, but the grapes came from old vines in the Alexander Valley, Sonoma County.
It has great facility and tasting room and makes really nice wine, especially late harvest ones.
For many years, it also has hosted the World Wine Tasting Championships which demand of both amateur and professional noses and palates knowledge of varieties, appellations, vintages and even individual wineries.
This wine had a dry cork and little sediment.
The nose and flavors were very agreeable, but not outstanding: a quite nice experience in total. It was the right time, or maybe a little late, to enjoy it.
It's pretty cool that you're doing this DJ. I imagine it is a great way to relive some places and moments.
We're tending to wrestle crumbled corks, worse luck. Even with laid-down bottles.
This week's lucky pick was from a small local winery: Frey Vineyards of Redwood Valley.
They may have been California's first 100% organic producer and the whole Frey family were involved at the remote ranch.
The wine was a 1984 Mendocino appellation Cabernet Sauvignon which the label promised would improve for 2 to 3 years. Instead I found it very enjoyable at 36.
The winery is slowly recovering from almost total destruction in the 2018 fires that raged around their valley and mine.
Reed's All Natural Jamaican Style Ginger Ale. Has the faintly astringent bite of the Reed's house style. How they determine, per the label, that there are indeed 17 grams fresh ginger for each bottle I'm not sure. Long division?
Down at the market, you can hear
Ladies cry out while on their heads they bear
Aki rice, salt fish are nice
And the rum is fine, any time of year
Drinking some chocolate Milk :)
Coffee and kale/banana/berry smoothie, making up for wing night.
Ginger ale, nectar of the Gods.
My son-in-law brought me some fresh caught ocean fish over the past month and they paired better with fresh bought white wines than with elderly reds.
I did pull a few of the latter from their hiding place in the cabinet.
One was a 1985 Milano Cabernet Sauvignon from Sonoma County grapes, even though the Winery is the furthest one south in Mendocino County.
This small winery has been in production since the '70's and has a friendly tasting room on a two lane section of US 101 south of Hopland; the turn-in northbound is a white knuckle one with the southbound one much safer.
The wine was in good shape and tasty, but surprisingly similar to the next victim, a 1985 Sirah-Syrah from Preston Vineyards in the Dry Creek Valley near Healdsburg in Sonoma County.
It was a blend of 56% Petite Syrah and 46% Sirah. The winery still makes this Rhone variety blend but varies the mix.
I guess the similarity we found between these two very different wines comes from the waning of the influence their source fruit.
The corks I am encountering have benefited from storing the bottles on their sides for 30+ years, keeping them from drying out. They are fragile, however, and I am trying different extraction methods to keep particles from the wine; so far a really fine strainer has been necessary.
I just use a paper coffee filter in a funnel when pouring vintage port from bottle to decanter. They're thin: so, they don't absorb much.
I suppose you could use a surgical mask; but, stay away from N95s. They absorb too much wine and are difficult to wring out.
Ginger ale, w/a splash of black raspberry sparkling water.
What, I'm nothing if not consistent.
Last night I liberated a 1978 Parducci Mendocino County Cabernet-Merlot.
It was a Cellarmaster label with 60/40 blend.
The cork was stained only about 2/3 of its length and came free easily.
After 42 years it lacked a lot of fruit smells and tastes, but was all-around very pleasant.
This wine was part of a statewide effort in California to mimic Bordeaux wines from France using their traditional varieties. They came up with the name Meritage and many wineries produced them.
The blends still are common, but I am not sure if the term survives.
I wouldn't mourn the passing of the marketing term.
I'm interested by your observation that the fruit smells and tastes were lacking--what else is there in wine but fruit? #notasommelier

I am drinking--trying to drink--a little bit of bourbon. It seems the glass I used wasn't rinsed completely and the taste of soap dominated the booze. I threw it out. I poured another in a new glass--same result.
Now I'm sad *AND* sober. wtf.
Fruit can be harvested at different levels of ripeness. When Bordeaux and California wines are compared, it's often said that California wines are more "fruit forward" (riper tasting). Wines made from very ripe grapes can even be jammy (reminiscent of grape jam). Wines continue to evolve in the bottle and change chemically. The aromas and flavors of fruit can become subdued. It's probably more readily noticed by those used to drinking California wines rather than Bordeaux.
Im drinking Organic Chocolate Whole Milk :)
Just got Truly pineapple seltzer on a recommendation, and let me just tell you.
It tastes like the can it comes in. Or maybe a sock. Blech.
Rinsing my mouth out with....
The Shin.

Whole milk, with coffee in it.
Doesn't matter, not nearly enough alcohol in it.
I can remedy that. And I know how, too.
I did.
And since I'm no quitter, I will continue doing that this evening as well.
I'm improving my tiny li'l slice o'the world.
For the assho--Imean-- the people around me.:D

I meant to respond at the time, but forgot.
When I just got out a freshly cleaned glass for my pre-dinner S&W,
soap smell and taste is what I got. Gahhh.
It took three thorough rinsings get rid of them.
(Why doesn't spellcheck like "rinsings"?)
I don't seem to notice this problem with other beverages.
I have a couple mitigating circumstances here.
When I'm drinking in the house, I don't have this problem. I have a few dedicated cocktail glasses, made of glass, and they're all fine. Easy to wash, easy to rinse. But sometimes I have some whiskey when I'm outside and I *strongly* prefer plastic in those situations. It's an iron rule, if you'll pardon the pun, for sipping while soaking, but even when I'm working in the yard I prefer plastic, it's just harder to break. I have a couple preferred plastic vessels I drink from ... they all tasted like plastic that day.
OK UNIVERSE I'LL STOP DRINKING TODAY. FUCK YOU BACK.
....
Meanwhile.... I've boiled the plastic cups and they're... ok? but I might have to just retire them and get new ones. They're not super special, they don't have a lot of emotional significance, I'm just really, really cheap. And lazy. Lazy and cheap. ! Which also means I drink more inside, so, glass, so, I can add procrastination to the list.
CHEERS!
Real men drink their MD 20/20 from the bottle. :haha:
If you have any form of swimming pool, NO GLASS is a iron rule.
Organic chocolate Milk :) (Whole)
Big Ballard IPA, on the rocks, today being the hottest day of the year so far.
Last night, a dram of Dalwhinnie.
Dalwhinnie is... kind of light. Not a big smoky thunderer.
Im drinking Lipton Iced Tea :)
That reminds me to set out the sun tea jar...
BBQ'ed some home grown Pork Butt Steaks last night.
They were delicious and fully complimented by a bottle of 1991 Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Vieux Telegraphe.
This Rhone wine is usually a mostly Grenache blend.
It had a good cork and a rich clean nose. It was smooth and drinkable, probably the best of the old reds I am slowly discovering in my "cellar."
I was first introduced to this appellation by a friend of my mother's when I was in college. He would order it whenever he saw it on a wine list and I remember all as very good.
This was my only bottle and I bought it from its importer, the wonderfully named Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant in Berkeley, Cal.
Looking on line this morning turned prices for this wine at $75-$100, with 1990's about twice that.
I hope it is as good today.
Grabbing a glassful of 2% organic milk while thinking what I want next.

Having some chocolate Milk :)
Diet Dr. Pepper
Will I ever again drink something that actually tastes good?
I mean, Diet Dr. Pepper is ok, but, it's just ok, not good.
Sprite Zero Sugar
Also not good.
man after you get used to flavored seltzers you realize you don't need all that chemical or all that sugar. i'm tellin ya, just do it for three weeks and you'll be good to go, your brain's expectations will be reset
Second that
Coffee with cream and no sugar works the same way.
i drink my coffie with a dash of chocklet milk
man after you get used to flavored seltzers you realize you don't need all that chemical or all that sugar. i'm tellin ya, just do it for three weeks and you'll be good to go, your brain's expectations will be reset
I concur. ish. Unflavored for me. But then I don't like and soda/pop other than diet coke, and you can always add flavor of the moment to them. My favorite post-run refreshment (if it's too early for beer) is fresh OJ topped up with a plain seltzer. Tastes like Orangina :D works with any fruit juice and pretty sure you can extrapolate. ( Dr Pee, though ...bleugh ;) )
But anyhoo, I'm a diet coke freak (before beer time) but if I ever feel that habit is getting a bit OTT, I just sub in a plain seltzer. I find it's easier to get used to something totally different but with some of the essential elements than to a poor substitute (and in this case better for you) I couldn't find any decent substitute for British pub bitter when I moved here, so I switched completely to American lager so I wouldn't be continually disappointed by it not being
exactly what I was after. worked. mostly.
Im drinking chocolate Milk :)
Right now it’s coffee with a splash of 1% milk. No sugar.
My beverages, in order of consumption, are:
Filtered tap water
Coffee
Red wine
occasional glass of milk.
Very rare occasions I might have a beer or margarita.
Gawd, I miss beer. And Crown Royal. And Wild Turkey. And ginger ale.
And eating. I haven't been full since May.
But you've lost a shit ton of weight right? Your willpower is a thing of awe.
On my first dr's visit in this latest fuckery, I was 219. The other day I came in at 193.
Oh, and I don't think it's so much willpower as it is spite.
snorted I suspect spite is what keeps me running even though I HATE it.
I'm drinking chocolate milk, Precious!!
Fa!rlife.
