Quick and Dirty Submission Recordings

Elspode • Feb 12, 2007 10:55 pm
My band is trying to get a gig this summer in one of the local municipal parks. They require three songs to be submitted on CD, and we haven't actually recorded anything as a group yet, so we've knocked out two quick and *very* dirty numbers. There are obvious mixing issues and even performance quality issues, but this is what we have time for.

Thought you guys might like to give 'em a listen.

Stairway to Brigit Flynn

Bonny Ship the Diamond

The first one is very progressive sounding. It's dreamy and something about it reminds me of Rush or Led Zepelin. I love the flutes.

The second one is so classic. I feel like I should be tapping my foot with me dress hiked to me ankle.

( the last song just finished)
oh hey, I am so glad there were some of the lyrics of Gilligans island because I was afraid to mention it sounded like the Gilligans island tune.;)

That's some good stuff El, I liked "Bonny.." the best. What part do you play?
Good luck with your gigs!

The first song sounds like Led Zepplin because it is the song from which Jimmy Page stole the riff for Stairway to Heaven. The song is entitled "Brigit Flynn", but we combine it with Stairway at the end, thus, "Stairway to Brigit Flynn". :)

Bonny Ship is traditional. I play the dead-stringed guitar, bass and sing the lead. It was also my idea to throw Gilligan's Island on the end, because it reminded me of it as well.

Damn fine, 'spode! Both pieces are absolutely lovely. I marginally favor Brigit, myself.

Congrats, both are now in my play rotation. :thumb:
If you do "cleaner" versions, I'd love to hear them.

When I recorded my guitar part on "Bonny", the strings were in very sad shape, and thus sounded very "dead" and clunky. The part is capoed up five frets, and that made it sound that much worse.

Spexx...its the other folks in the band with the talent.

Bri - You have to ask personally for that sort of submission.
