Israeli president urged to resign

JERUSALEM (CNN) -- Lashing out at the Israeli media for "letting my blood" and "brainwashing" the Israeli public, Israeli President Moshe Katsav on Wednesday vehemently denied impending sex abuse charges and refused to resign.

"I shall fight to the very bitter end, even if it means fighting everybody to prove my innocence," Katsav said at a news conference.

He restated his pledge to "immediately" resign if he is formally indicted.

Immediately after Katsav's news conference, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert joined other Israeli politicians in publicly calling for the president's resignation.

"Given these circumstances, the president cannot continue to carry out his duties and will have to leave the president's residence," Olmert said. "This is a sad day for the state of Israel."

Olmert does not have the power to force Katsav to resign. The Knesset, or Israeli parliament, would have to hold impeachment hearings to force the president to permanently step down.

Good, maybe Israel will get someone that will actually strive for peace now.

strive for peace? nah.

Hawkeye seems to forget that with the exception of Egypt, the surrounding Arab states have never striven for peace; quite the contrary. Neither Jordan nor Syria offer any prospect for ceasing their proxy, undeclared permanent war.

Iran has. They went to Saudi Arabia for peace talks.

Besides Iraq and Israel, what other Middle Eastern country has attacked another? If Israel helped out their neighbors instead of occupying their lands maybe their wouldn't be Hezbollah?

Boy, I really hope so. If not, it could be the beginning of a very dangerous & powerful alliance between them.

He stands accused of rape. How and when did that happen?

Pierce, how is it that you aren't visibly aware that Israel began with an Arab invasion in 1948? Bad at history? Israel simply has never had a problem with helping its neighbors out -- it is the neighbors, and the neighbors alone, who have a problem.

Of course if you take their land, it´s not your problem, it´s their problem.

Maybe you forgot that Israel was formed because ofa terrorist organization. The fact is that Israel is just an asshole to all the countries around it and if we weren't Israel's ally we would be talking about the genocide that Israel has been putting on their enemies.
Undertoad • Jan 25, 2007 12:53 pm
That's pretty rude, calling the UN a terrorist organization.

Impending rape charges are not discussed in that article.
The controversy stems from allegations by four of Katsav's former female employees.
Where is the word rape anywhere in at article? Where is the word 'impending' in that article. Or did yesman065 not read his own citation? Where are these allegations of rape detail?
Hippikos • Jan 26, 2007 7:29 am
Haaretz has some good comments on this case.

You my friendly idiot really cannot read can you? I'll spell it out for poor tw who is still spouting his mindless banter without first knowing the facts, without first reading the posts, and as usual only seeing what he wants.

Where is the word rape anywhere in at article?

Here: "According to a statement from the justice ministry, the charges will include raping a woman who worked for him in the tourism ministry in 1998 and 1999, as well as indecent acts with use of force.

The charges will also include unlawful intercourse and indecent acts against another woman who worked with him while he was president in 2003-04, the ministry said. He could also face charges of indecent acts with abuse of power against two women who worked for him while president."

Where is the word 'impending' in that article.

All set to apologize yet? C'mon big guy man up - you can do it.

Again Yesman065 owes everyone an apology. His quotes are not from the article that he cited – as was posted previously:
Prime minister urges Israeli president to resign

Apparently Yesman065 has who own set of articles that he refuses to share - or maybe Yesman065 does this as an excuse to insult others. Yesman065 is not quoting from his own article, does not bother to read what he wrote, and still refuses to apologize to all for repeatedly posting erroneously.

Meanwhile, Yesman065 - get off your bucket, stop incessent preaching and ranting, and answer the question. Where is this article about rape? You do remember the original question asked before you started ranting and tirades?

Are you ok? Seriously! In my last post I went to the link in my original post (same on as in your last post and above) and copied them for you so you wouldn't have to read the whole thing. Try again

tw, I don't know what you're smoking, but all of yesman's quotes are from his linked CNN article. Hell, the actual link itself is
