It's a baby Slender Loris, in a picture released by the Zoological Society of London, as part of a new campaign to save some of the world's rarest and most neglected creatures from extinction.

The Loris is one of the Ten Weirdest Animals, in a group with the Long-beaked echidna, the Long-eared jerboa and the Golden-rumped elephant shrew. This group will be focused on in conservation efforts, because they say many species are lost simply because they fall through the cracks and aren't noticed.

Ironically, the Loris won't fall through a crack. It's noted for its interesting grip. The feet have the same sort of opposing digits as the hands, a sort of foot-thumb, which gives them a unique four-way grip. They can actually sleep while hanging onto a branch.

The Loris looks like it's already fallen through the crack - or at least under the bed, where it's been playing with the dust kitties....

Cute animals though - I wonder if they get any bigger? They'd be perfect desk pets if not - I could just see a Loris on my pencil....

The critter in the first picture looks like a wise monkey Druid.

Wasn't he on Americal Idol the other night?!?!

What, no Loris recipes?

If it's a slender loris - is it one of those 'taste great' or 'less filling' debates?

Well there's not much meat there. The best approach would be to let several of them attach themselves to a roasting spit...

Loris, Lorax...coincidence? I think not.

Nooooooooo. Wrap the little suckers in bacon and broil 'em.

Maybe add a water chestnut, too.

Why don't they allow them to be sold as pets... Probably be a million of them in about 3 months..

well, because they're endangered. There aren't a million of them to be sold as pets.

If they become commercially viable, Loris puppy mills will be popping up everywhere.

You can see it in their eyes - "given half a chance that thing'd kill you and everyone you love..."

NOnonono...

Statues, clown dolls, nasty resin ornaments can come to life (usually at night) and kill.

This little thing's eyes are just saying, "Hey, don't Bogart maaaaan!"
