I'm soooooo hungover, my hair follicles hurt!! Which is weird, coz usually I dont suffer too badly, so...

What's your time honoured cure for the dreaded morning after???
Perry Winkle • Jan 13, 2007 6:31 pm
Big greasy omlet, juice, and water. Let it sit for an hour and either go for a long jog or do 45 minutes on the elliptical machine.
lumberjim • Jan 13, 2007 6:37 pm
go back in time and have 2 bottles of water and 3 advil before bed

or drink v8

sushi helps a lot too

Or, in the event that you do not have easy access to a timemachine: a 'full English' breakfast' usually does the trick. Has to be accompanied by coffee and fruit juice mind. If are able to include black pudding, mushrooms and a fried slice all the better.

@lj, sushi? really? for a hangover cure? I'd never have thought of that.
bluecuracao • Jan 13, 2007 9:44 pm
When I was in college, I'd have one of those little snack cups of Haagen Daz ice cream (chocolate), and a Slim Jim--sounds bizarre, but it was like magic. That was a couple of decades ago, though. :(

Nowadays, guzzling a half gallon of water and going back to sleep for a few hours is the best bet. A little mac 'n' cheese and a B-vitamin doesn't hurt, either.

Fry-up, several cups of tea and a can of diet coke. .
Beestie • Jan 13, 2007 10:09 pm
Pickle juice (dill). I swear it works. Its an old Russian remedy.

yup. jinx swears by it.
Clodfobble • Jan 13, 2007 10:55 pm
Sure, but I'd swear just about anything if it meant I got to eat sushi...:fish: :yum:
zippyt • Jan 13, 2007 11:48 pm
A bloody mary or 3 , a big greasy omlet , and a nap
DucksNuts • Jan 14, 2007 12:18 am
I did the fry up....eggs, bacon, tomatoe, baked beans n sausage, with tea and v8 juice. Felt semi human, well, nothing that some sleep and not having 2 kids under 4 wouldnt cure.

Then I had a Narna Paddle Pop and life is grand again!!!

Hmm, dont know where I would get dill pickle juice??

LJ - sushi (shudder!!) cant eat it at the best of times. Drinking that much water before bed would just make me puke!!!

Bippy - hair of the dog was going to be my next pick!!

Thanks Heaps for that :) I'm sure I will refer back to this page thread next weekend

Yup. Drink 3 or 4 shots of it and you will be fine. The vinager does something.

A wise, old black man at the restaurant where I used to work told me many moons ago to eat a stick of butter before a drinking binge. I think he kind of adopted me as someone to pass along his considerable wisdom (gleaned from a thoroughly-lived life) to. Everything else he told me worked but I never tried that particular pre-emptive remedy. He said the butter would "coat the stomach" and protect it from the impending abuse.

A hard-living, ex-Spetsnaz comrade told me about the pickle juice. That, I can attest to.

A lot of half water/half Gatoraid... then sex.

Vinegar is a base, it neutralizes the acid in your stomach and balances your ph.

Just stir some baking soda into some warm water and drink or do some shots of apple cider vinegar and it will have the same effect.
Do NOT do both, BAD things will happen.
DucksNuts • Jan 14, 2007 5:03 am
I'm trying the vinegar thingie in some shape or form next time!!

I actually shoot it a few times a week, it helps with my arthritis.
One of the few home remedies that actually work.

I think my tried & tested cures have been covered.

As an observation rather than a cure, I notice if I have a really bad hangover I am over the worst of it once I've had a poo.
WabUfvot5 • Jan 17, 2007 12:09 am
Hmmm. My cure was always to drink more alcohol...
Shawnee123 • Jan 17, 2007 9:47 am
A big greasy burger from one of those fast food places you should never frequent.

A big glass of milk with chocolate mix helps too.

Unfortunately my hangover cure requires prep. While you are drinking you have to remember to consume an equal or near equal volume of water to alcohol. Before you pass out, you need to take three over the counter strength Aspirin or Ibuprofen (200mg). No Tylenol. Tylenol impairs liver function, and you need your liver to work to clear the alcohol out of your system. When you come to in the morning, take three more Aspirin or Ibuprofen. Drink lots more water. If you still feel hungover, go back to sleep.

I haven't had a hangover since my freshman year of college, which was a Long Time Ago in a Galaxy Far, Far Away.

Xanax, phenergan IM and a leeeeettle chip of a quaalude should do it.

Plus a Big Mac. I swear by them. They soak all that toxic shite up. The bonus is if you puke, you got to eat the Big Mac without worrying about the fat and sodium! It's a win/win!
DucksNuts • Jan 18, 2007 9:18 pm
I must remember all this stuff this weekend.

Haha, no shit. "You might be an alcoholic if..."

Brianna, where are you getting your ludes? I've heard beautiful stories about them ;)

I suppose I should share the real cure I do know. Since a large part of a hangover is dehydration there is a right way to remedy that and many lesser right ways. Basically you need hydration fluid. Not just water. No, Gatorade is a poor choice. In fact most drinks are too sugary. You sugars and salts for the best absorption. I used to get packets of hydration salts premixed. Pure gold. Wake up, drink some of that and be feeling better very quickly. Some people couldn't take the salty taste but they weren't very common. You can buy the stuff online but it wasn't cheap from what I recall. Easier would be to google how much salt to add to gatorade or powerade to maximize the osmosis. Additionally there is the WHO formula recipe but it will taste wretched without flavoring.
