xoB sent along this very excellent shot of a leaf insect, but that didn't seem quite right for a Friday image. But it turns out the image was sent along because it's part of the London Zoo's annual year-opening 'stocktake'.

And so there were a bunch of shots of people with clipboards and allegedly taking down information about what animals are there and how many. Certainly it's some sort of promotional thing, but hey, why not. We get this shot of a set of meerkats, which is in fact happy and cute enough to make it Friday.

Our local zoo mislaid a few red wolves a while back. This isn't a bad idea.

How does one mislay a wolf?

I mean, um, They're kinda big, and wolfy....hard to miss ;)

If you neglect to put them on their backs when you lay them, then you are unable to kiss them.

At least that's the case with sheep, so I've been told.

Aw, don't be silly. If you lay 'em on their backs, ya can't get their hind feet in your boots.

This sort of sounds like bestiality.

I chose the verb with you guys in mind.
Apparently they had a bad fence and little pups. This put them in deep do do with the folks that accredit zoos and control which species you're allowed to keep. They've actually changed administration and turned things mostly around. I don't know if they are fully accredited yet though, I believe that's a long term deal.

I seem to recall UT mentioning food in the description of an IOTD.

Isn't Cupper referring to food in the very first post?
