January 8, 2007: Tree goats

It's the weekly Cellar IotD/Neatorama collaboration!

Image

Wildlife photo blogger Remo Savisaar blogs on tree goats, something I had not seen before. Apparently this is a common phenomenon in Morocco.

Image

It turns out the goats are eating the nuts from a forest of Argan trees there.

They love it, and there are more goats in the trees than on the ground.

Be sure to check out Neatorama for more neato items!

What forest?

Goats are excellent climbers, BTW.

Wonder how they taste after they are all loaded up on these nuts?

We might forego the hickory smoke.

Funny....the first pic looks just like my Christmas tree this year. We decorated it in a "goat motif" this year.
Happy Monkey • Jan 8, 2007 1:33 pm
That is one impressively sturdy tree.

Todd, you're pretty quick on the "let's eat the IOTD subject" tradition around here. You must have been a lurker for awhile, huh?

UT, maybe you should just make a point of saying something about eating the animals in IOTD pics when you do the posting description in the first post and be done with it. :D

Now, what if they were also fainting goats? Would they rain down on us?

Offtopic: Is it me, or did I just change colors?
Undertoad • Jan 8, 2007 1:57 pm
The Cellar (not the IotD blog view, but the awesome forum) went through a design change, it's explained and discussed on a sticky thread on Home Base.

You can change back to the original design, or use a new "work safe" black and white version, using the Quick Style Chooser, which is a drop-down menu at the lower left of every page.

I lurked for around 3.5 years before actually posting; I just couldn't resist all the "eating the IOTD subject" posts that were made in August 06, so I registered!

Probably not the best place to have a picnic.
Shawnee123 • Jan 8, 2007 2:03 pm
Unless you like goat cheese!
Elspode • Jan 8, 2007 2:12 pm
Yeah, I was thinking earlier that this made a tree full of birds look absolutely insignificant when the droppings started to fall.

"Oh honey, this so romantic" SPLAT "Um, you brought wine? You're so sweet!" SPLAT "Flowers too?" SPLAT

It's an animal pic.
The animals are cute, and not being hurt.
It's Monday.

The world is coming to an end.
Undertoad • Jan 8, 2007 2:42 pm
True! Thing is, it was a great item that also fits the Neatorama approach nicely. It was my turn to nominate something.

Hmmm, don't goats go PLING instead of SPLAT?
Sundae • Jan 10, 2007 5:33 am
Some trees bear strange fruit....

Though I have never studied the consistency or liquidity of goat feces, I would guess it would more splat than pling.

Fecemissioner? Can we get a call here? :p
Griff • Jan 10, 2007 10:19 am
plink hard little pellets
xoxoxoBruce • Jan 10, 2007 10:20 am
Griff's the expert, but I believe they're pellets like sheep. Of course, up a tree, woofing fruit, chit 'appens. ;)

Oh, the expert snuck in there.....nevermind.

Oh, I didn't know that. So I guess it would be like having extra croutons on your salad.

Say, that isn't a half bad idea. Maybe we could feed them rosemary and tyme at night and let them roam the tree tops during the day?
Shawnee123 • Jan 11, 2007 4:52 pm
I've always heard it just takes one good idea! Shhhhh...mums the word, we don't want the other Cellarites stealing our million dollar idea.
