New Cellar style announcement

Undertoad • Jan 5, 2007 11:44 am
Hey there - if you haven't been watching the "brief outage tonight" thread in Cellar Meta, you weren't ready for the Cellar look to suddenly change to enlightened burgundies and olive grays. After six years of depending on the old standard blue and light blue, time for a change.

If you don't like it, you can change BACK to the old Cellar look. At the bottom left of every page, there is a drop-down menu where you can choose between several styles. The "vBulletin 3 style" is the old style. "cellar.org" is the modern style. And "Sterile For Work" is a mostly-greyscale version that tries to tone things down for those of you who need that sort of thing.

I never thought I'd be so happy about being sterile - thank ee kindly sir.
Iggy • Jan 5, 2007 12:05 pm
I like it. I like it a lot. :D
wolf • Jan 5, 2007 12:06 pm
Very nice, especially the stealth logo.

Cool beans.
yesman065 • Jan 5, 2007 12:25 pm
My productivity is about to drop - now that I can be stealthy & sneaky. I'm drifting to the dark side I know it. :borg:
monster • Jan 5, 2007 1:28 pm
Um, I see no change, It's still a collection of blues for me. Which is fine, but I wonder why I'm special? Not a shade of gray or maroon in sight. I just have the default options selected, I think
Undertoad • Jan 5, 2007 1:31 pm
Well, head down to the lower left of this page and use the drop-down menu to pick another style. You can always change back if you don't like it.
monster • Jan 5, 2007 1:36 pm
Thanks, I just assumed it was an automatic change for everyone and somehow it missed me. I'm a little slow today, it seems....
Hoof Hearted • Jan 5, 2007 1:39 pm
I really like this color combo! Very soothing to my eyes and definitely different from the other forums I visit out in cyberspace.
Love the monkey/typewriter. Will he be banging out Shakespeare soon?
Urbane Guerrilla • Jan 5, 2007 2:15 pm
Or Kerouac?
wolf • Jan 5, 2007 2:16 pm
Joyce.
Elspode • Jan 5, 2007 5:00 pm
Well, unlike Bri, I only soiled myself, so not too bad. Actually, I rather like the change. Right on, UT!
Flint • Jan 5, 2007 5:11 pm
As a dedicated office boardie, I want to say how much I appreciate the new stealth scheme, and the drop-down style-chooser. Brilliant.
Undertoad • Jan 5, 2007 5:43 pm
Oh, the chooser was built in to vBulletin all the time, waiting for me to build new styles for it.

What I bring is a specific combination of keen system administration skills, a full understanding of the key protocols that run the Internet, the eye to spot a winning business/development model in vBulletin in 1999, a deep understanding of virtual community, myriad programming and scripting skills, enough Photoshop and CSS to be able to bring about a competent design, and just enough design skills to know when the logo doesn't suck.

someone will hire me any day now... any day now...

Very cool! I like the understated, restful colors. I also like switching between styles (a little ADD coming out, there? Don't know ...)! The new colors blend beautifully into my wallpaper, so this can be my new 'stealth' format that will fool my husband and kids into thinking I'm working on something serious ...

Kudos, UT!

as someone who appreciates irony, i'd like to ask you to change your nasty teal and beige colored sig line to black or grey, please.

My new Bozzio signature. (With the sienna intact, because it goes nicely with the cellar.org scheme.)
zippyt • Jan 5, 2007 9:38 pm
the colors are different , not bad just different .
WabUfvot5 • Jan 5, 2007 11:06 pm
Thanks for the options UT. I prefer the old blue one myself. The Sterile for Work theme is nice but a bit too high contrast IMO.
Ibby • Jan 6, 2007 12:04 am
Yikes!

Actually, no, it's cool. It'll take some getting used to, though.
monster • Jan 6, 2007 12:57 am
Well I found and tried out the new colors/logo and they are interesting, but I went back to the blues. It's les distracting because al the other forums I visit have similar color -less visual shock as I flick around!

Curious as to why the monkeys/typewriters logos are different in the different themes?
Undertoad • Jan 6, 2007 1:16 am
Evolution!

Ibby • Jan 6, 2007 10:07 am
Question:

When using the Old skin, why the FUCK won't it show 30 posts per page?
Undertoad • Jan 6, 2007 10:18 am
Probably because of the fucking options setting in your fucking user control panel. Go to fucking User CP, then fucking Edit Options and you'll notice a fucking "Thready Display Options" setting. Fucking set the number of posts per page in that fucking section.
Ibby • Jan 6, 2007 12:06 pm
but it says 20 posts/page or 40 posts/page....

...fuckitty fucky fuck?

So... it's been several days, I've cleared my cache and temporary files several times, and still the Quick Reply box appears blue to me when the burgundy color scheme is enabled. It is grayscale when the work-safe color scheme is chosen, however. Is this just me?
Undertoad • Jan 9, 2007 11:47 am
should be fixed; for some reason it reverted on me.
Clodfobble • Jan 9, 2007 1:06 pm
Yep, it matches for me now. Thanks!

Just learned that gibbons are apes, not monkeys, even though they look like monkeys to me, and that one of the big differences is that apes can rotate their arms at the shoulder while monkeys can't.

There, now you all are enlightened, too.

Wait, I lied! Now the frame quickly switches to blue for just a moment after I click "Post Quick Reply."

Not happening for me either :)

Ut - just remember no good deed goes unpunished. :p
Clodfobble • Jan 10, 2007 11:31 am
Hey, whoa now, I wasn't punishing or even really complaining, I think the new design looks great, it's just my inner QA geek being overly observant.

I think it's actually the speed of my internet connection, sometimes when any random page loads it'll be blue for a half-second and then the red will overlay it. I think vBulletin is loading the style scheme on top of its standard code, and most of the time they just load too fast to see it.
smoothmoniker • Jan 10, 2007 10:40 pm
Holy Crap! I leave for 9 months, and you let vandals and thieves break in and redo the carpets and drapes?

what kind of shoddy joint are you running here, UT?
