Moderator nomination thread

Undertoad • Jan 1, 2007 5:31 pm
This is part one of the moderators election. (Part two is the actual vote.)

The term of office for this election is through 1/1/2008, and the number of moderators shall remain unchanged at two.

Nominate people to be voted on in the moderators election. People nominated here will appear in the moderators vote, unless they specifically say they do not accept the nomination.

(This last rule, in bold, is a change from the last nomination thread.)

Nominations will close at 11:59 pm Eastern time on Jan. 3, which is approximately 54 hours from now. If this is longer than appears necessary, it's only to make sure everyone gets a chance to see the thread and participate.

Nominations are open.

I nominate Lookout123. I don't always agree with him, but I agree with the way he treats those who disagree with him. I may have a short term memory, but I don't recall him acting like a schmuck in any flamewars.

He also appreciates Labrat's ass, which shows he has good taste. Of course we might have the first moderator sex scandal in history, but it wouldn't be boring.
DanaC • Jan 1, 2007 6:15 pm
I nominate Elspode. Probably one of the most level headed people in the Cellar.
Clodfobble • Jan 1, 2007 6:42 pm
I re-nominate xoxoxoBruce and wolf. A fine job they've been doing, a fine job.
DanaC • Jan 1, 2007 6:46 pm
I thought they didn't want to do it anymore? Is that not why we're doing this?
CaliforniaMama • Jan 1, 2007 7:56 pm
Newbie question: What does the moderator actually do?
zippyt • Jan 1, 2007 7:58 pm
If we have to pick different folks ,
'Splode
and Beastie

But if Bruce and wolf are Willing I say let them comtinue .
limey • Jan 1, 2007 8:00 pm
What zippy said.
zippyt • Jan 1, 2007 8:02 pm
Mods help UT keep Some kind of order around here ,
Takeing out the trash ( Spam ) , and kicking out the litteres ( spammers ) ,

If they do not want to continue then...

I emphatically second that!

When the moderator roles were first created it was for a set term, to be up for consideration again at the end of the year. There are no term limits, and neither has publically expressed a desire to give up the job. It's just election time, is all.
Aliantha • Jan 1, 2007 11:52 pm
I'm wondering when UG is going to nominate me...
wolf • Jan 2, 2007 1:00 am
I gracefully accept the nomination. I usually end up doing night patrol on the spam watch.

Excellent! Is Bruce willing to go again?
Undertoad • Jan 2, 2007 8:12 am
Yes, this is just a term of office thing.
Ibby • Jan 2, 2007 8:26 am
I'm nominating myself, simply because I want to say I was nominated for this prestigious position.

Mm, yeah, for my resumes, and college apps...

...HAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHA.
Trilby • Jan 2, 2007 9:27 am
What if a moderator is not able to fulfill her duties? Will first runner-up assume the title? And what if an elected moderator is found drinking in NYC nightclubs, snorting cocaine and is photographed kissing other same-sex moderators? Will moderator lose her crown :queen: or will UT give a pardon?

;)
Flint • Jan 2, 2007 9:48 am
We need a moderator that will put a stop to the hate-mongering!
Undertoad • Jan 2, 2007 9:59 am

They will get a promotion, as long as the photos are only posted here.

I would probably vote for Miss Nevada if she were in the running.
Elspode • Jan 2, 2007 11:17 am
Bruce and Wolf have my sincere thumbs up. As Wolf has already accepted, that would leave but Sir XO to do the same. The rest would be moot. UT, Wolf and Bruce have done a stellar job so far.
Flint • Jan 2, 2007 11:23 am
Elspode and Bruce and wolf and UT sittin' in a tree, m-é-n-a-g-e-à-t-r-o-i-s-i-n-g

Only if pictures with high detail and sharp focus are provided. Circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one optional.

I know, but, what is the correct terminology? (I'm looking at you, Mr. "free love"...)
lookout123 • Jan 2, 2007 12:39 pm
i acknowledge my nomination with immense gratitude and quite a few tears. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Alas, I don't think my 15 minutes per day of cellar time is enough to do an adequate job. (unless the stipend has significantly increased.)

seriously though. i'll help if i can, but i think we'd be hardpressed to find better than Wolf and Sir Bruce.
Phil • Jan 2, 2007 1:25 pm
do new members get to vote? if so, from what ive seen / read, Dana C, Sundae Girl, Elspode seem very level - headed and easy going, so if accepted, i nominate any or all of them. this is a big forum and could use members from Europe to help with moderating too.

Only if you've passed the test.

I just assumed that, while I might be approved and free to participate in such activities, I wouldn't actually have the opportunity. At least, that's how it is working out in real life right now.

I agree with Bruce and Wolf continuing provided its not a burden to them and 2nd their respective nominations and humbly accept my nomination.

I further nominate Clodfobble provided she is interested and if ClodFabulous will permit it.
Pie • Jan 2, 2007 5:36 pm
I got nuthin new to add, just that xoB and wolf have done a great job. Spode would also be a good choice.
Thanks for your hard work, mods and mods-to-be!

You've got to teach them the importance of fighting spam from an early age!

And I am honored to accept the nomination. But really, unless Bruce or wolf is tired of the job I'm not going to be printing any campaign literature anytime soon...
xoxoxoBruce • Jan 2, 2007 7:24 pm
Sure, I'll help any way I can.

Does moderation mean we can't get drunk any more? heehee...

I say if it ain't broke don't fix it. As long as Wolf and Bruce don't mind.
fargon • Jan 2, 2007 11:09 pm
Wolf and xoBruce, one more time.:)
wolf • Jan 3, 2007 2:17 am
It's never a burden, folks. It's a labor of love.
Aliantha • Jan 3, 2007 3:20 am
capn...if we nominate UG and TW then there'll be no moderation because they'll cancel each other out, so we can all get drunk!

I nominate UG and TW!!! (they'd be as good as wolf and bruce wouldn't they?)
DanaC • Jan 3, 2007 6:19 am
Hahahah, I like your thinking Ali:)

If Wolf and Bruce are still willing then I see no reason not to keep things as they are. They've done a bang up job so far, after all.

pssst, thanks Phil :)

I will assume Ali's nomination was a joke, and I encourage people not to make joke nominations that I have to interpret.

Thank you kindly for the nomination, but I think the Cellar is far better off with the mods it has.

My nominations will go the same way as my vote - Bruce & Wolf

Undertoad • Jan 3, 2007 11:46 am
Yeah, you gotta get the political theory right; in order for moderation to be a representational democracy, it's necessary to go through the process no matter what.

Of course if some nominated people want to back out officially, in a way that's clear to all, that is their choice. Nominations close in 12 hours.

Almost, they'd be in the parking lot with pistols, whereas Wolf and I would be in the Janitors closet ....with passion.

Just go to the Members List, and sort by Posts. Then select the top two.

Our loss, on both counts.

Fortunately, the remaining candidates are all excellent.
Iggy • Jan 3, 2007 4:04 pm
I re-nominate Bruce and Wolf as well. But I would like to add Elspode, if I can do that...
Elspode • Jan 3, 2007 5:04 pm
I'm happy to accept nomination, but except as a formality, there is little need to do this. As LJ has rightly said, a vote is somewhat superfluous. Wolf and Bruce have both said they'd do it, they excel at it...what more could we ask for, here?

Edit: whoops...missed the nifty democracy platform espoused by UT, there...
SteveDallas • Jan 3, 2007 5:19 pm
We need to vote, because one year it will NOT be "obvious."
Aliantha • Jan 4, 2007 12:00 am
I'll try not to crack any more jokes in 'serious' threads.
lumberjim • Jan 4, 2007 12:18 am
well, you can't be blamed. I mean, how can you tell the difference between serious and non-serious threads? that's like asking a blind man not to use the red phone.
lumberjim • Jan 4, 2007 12:19 am
of course we need to vote. i was just stating my affirmation of the fine job wolf has done.....oh, and that other guy, too.
Aliantha • Jan 4, 2007 3:20 am
I can't tell the difference. Other people cracked jokes in this thread. I'm still trying to figure out what planet UT is living on if he had a single moments concern that nominating UG or TW would have been intended in any way other than jest.

Mind you, I'd like to point out that surely even if it hadn't been a joke it would have been ok to nominate them...
