Screenshots

I keep seeing the Screen Shots thread under Technology and it made me curious about what others got on their desktop. So why not post some screenshots?

Using ImageShack would be wise since the images can get pretty big. It'll make this thread load way easier and keep Undertoad's bandwidth bill lower

My Desktop:

If you're curious I'm running Linux with Fluxbox window manager. The thingy on the left is Gkrellm.

Your brother/sister is going to go bankrupt marrying that lot off.
Shawnee123 • Dec 29, 2006 10:51 am
When the little one was born, my brother signed his email:

Mike, owner of multiple guns of varying calibers.

He's gonna need 'em!

(Not only are they really cute, they are funny, smart, and nice---guess they take after their aunt) :)

busterb • Dec 29, 2006 7:28 pm
My desktop is cluttered now, I put links there till I have a look and decide where to put or discard.
Thanks, Bruce for wall paper.

As I write this, I have just finished attaching the anemometer of my new personal weather station to the 1" rigid conduit pipe which shall be its mast. If all goes well, in a few days I'll be inviting you all to see my current conditions online - Temp, wind speed/direction, relative humidity and rainfall.

Now who's more weather obsessed? Hmmmmm??? :D
WabUfvot5 • Dec 29, 2006 10:53 pm
Stop it Elspode, you might turn me on!

How much did that anemometer set you back? This area has a lot of microclimates... weather can change in the span of a mile :O

I have a desire to tidy your dekstop for you :worried:

Bruce, honey ... could you send me that cockpit shot? I think my boss would love it.

Yes, I know you probably sent it to me already, but since my inbox got hosed, I have no idea what I have and what I haven't.
xoxoxoBruce • Dec 30, 2006 11:10 am
Of course, Mistress Wolf. Your wish is my command.....I don't want to be a newt.:worm:

This is the setup that I have, but it is an older model, and being phased out, so I know Selene didn't pay this price for it. Wish it would stop raining so I could find a ladder and get the anemometer mounted. It has to go up first, so I can wire down to the thermohygrometer and the rain bucket.
xoxoxoBruce • Dec 30, 2006 1:37 pm
Holy cow! A you planning on being a contractor for the National weather Service or the Weather Channel?

Guess you don't trust the Weather Rock anymore.
WabUfvot5 • Dec 30, 2006 4:51 pm
Wow, that's a nice setup Elspode. I'm certainly envious although my $ will be going to a computer upgrade :\

LOL @ the weather rock. We had those growing up :)
Elspode • Dec 30, 2006 8:42 pm
I'm going to pimp for The Weather Underground and their network of PWS's all over the world.

Cool community...sort of like a Myspace for Weather junkies. $10 a year reg gets you everything they have to offer, which is quite a bit.
Elspode • Dec 30, 2006 9:38 pm
Here's the anemometer, mounted to a 4.5' 1" rigid conduit pole, awaiting someone with a 30' ladder and bigger balls than mine to come and attach it to my house.

webshots, It's huge...I have a big screen and this photo is breath taking. I shrunk it up in order to post it. It lost something. ...It's skinny..It should be wider.
LOl....I love that wallpaper bruce! You have the original link for that too!I know a guy that would find that a hoot.
I like the baby feet too but I don't want to go there. :P Oh and the weather underground widget is cool too.

Not yet, but I did install the thermohygrometer, so I can now display indoor and outdoor temps and humidity, as well as barometric pressure. I may put up the rain bucket tomorrow, and then have my gutter superintendent come by after work this week to install the anemometer. It is by far the most difficult and critical part of the installation. It is 20' in the air, it must be perfectly perpendicular to the ground, and it must be precisely oriented in a specific direction in order to have the wind direction read out correctly.

If UT still allowed html, I could post my readings here in my sig line...
WabUfvot5 • Dec 31, 2006 11:44 pm
That's better Elspode :D

Nice to see a Mac desktop too.

Here's my notebook; same software with a dizzying background:

Elspode • Jan 3, 2007 9:25 am
Unfortunately, my gear only measures what's there. I haven't figured out how to make it produce the weather I want yet.
Sundae • Jan 3, 2007 9:59 am
I have worked out how to get a screenshot (Hurray!)
Okay, I didn't work it out, I called IT.

I still don't know how to attached the image here though - I can copy it from the program I've dumped it in, but not paste it here. Should I be attaching it as a saved image?

Sorry to be using the Cellar like Internet 101, but I'm only learning these skills in order to play here anyway

Yes, you have to save it to your system as a .jpg first, then attach it like any other picture.
CaliforniaMama • Jan 3, 2007 10:44 am
Hit the "Go Advanced" button, scroll down and you will see a "Manage Attachments" button. THAT's how you attach your pics.
Sundae • Jan 3, 2007 10:53 am
Thanks - for some reason I had it in my head that the other pictures on the thread weren't attachments.

My, what pretty words. *cue Sesame Street's "One of these things is not like the others"* The word you're looking for is "pluviometer". [/snark]
Elspode • Jan 3, 2007 2:41 pm
Hey, I got all those words out of the instructions. Its not like I actually *knew* them or anything...

Seriously, I'm glad I now know what the goomer what measures the rain is actually called.
xoxoxoBruce • Jan 3, 2007 4:09 pm
Yeah but, but, but....if you say pluviometer, everybody but BigV is going to say, "Huh, whatthehelliszat?". Then you gots to splain it. Talking(writing) is to communicate ideas, except in English class where it's to impress teachers that act like Urbane Guerrilla.

I know BigV was just jerking your chain, but really, clarity is much more convenient. :D
Elspode • Jan 3, 2007 5:07 pm
Me and Ed are buds. He can give me a good chain jerking anytime. And no, I do not mean that in any sort of sexual manner, you damned perverts.
xoxoxoBruce • Jan 3, 2007 9:32 pm

my screenshot at work, on this computer at least. (every computer I sign into at work has a different screenshot)
I guess this could also be my 2007 show yourself entry too. However, I am a little fucked up in my pic so you'll just have to overlook that one.

skysidhe: Yours makes me crave precious, precious vodka to make the pain stop :S (I've been installing windows a lot lately ;) )
DucksNuts • Jan 10, 2007 3:04 am
shit - why CANT I do screenshots?
busterb • Jan 10, 2007 8:01 am
Try this free program. http://www.mirekw.com/winfreeware/mwsnap.html
Did you try, prt scr, open paint, click edit, paste, save as jpg???
Iggy • Jan 10, 2007 8:29 pm
Ok, I shrunk (is that the right word?) it a little because I thought it was too big, I hope you can still see it. I am usually pretty boring but I saw this one and wanted it. :p

Oh, and I couldn't use the prnt scn button because of my stupid laptop keyboard. But that program worked well. ;)

I use Windoze with the desktop switched off and scalable fabric for inactive windows.
