tattoos

well.. it just struck me, with the art of tattooing becoming so popular and the median age of people on this group being somewhere around 29ish.. (I'm 37 when I got my first tattoo it was considered risque (sp?) now a good hunk of my back is devoted to it (with more to come) .. SO! I was wondering if fellow cellarites (if I may consider myself among you) have tattoos, why one has one and if you'd be willing to share a picture/ story/ explanation along with it? ( as I mentioned.. it's my back and such, so I have to wait for the wife to be to get back from her folks to get a picture of it). just curios.. as to another thread... how's about pets? how many people here have one or more?
Aliantha • Dec 23, 2006 7:00 pm
I have three tattoos. In fact, I had my latest one done just last Thursday! I don't have photographic evidence of it as yet, but I will soon. So far it's remained covered up because I don't want hubby to see it till Christmas day. It's my gift to him. A dolphin with his name underneath it.

These are my other two. Not the greatest pics, but they'll do. One is Taz. He's on my right ankle. That was my first tattoo and I've had it for almost 10yrs now I guess. He signifies the little devil in me. The other is a bird of paradise with my sons names under it. The bird signifies the beauty and freedom of my children.

Wife? When did you get married? Congratulations!
yesman065 • Dec 26, 2006 11:15 am
No tattoos here, but I've got 2 & 3/4 cats and a lot of fish in my aquarium.
Iggy • Dec 26, 2006 5:39 pm
I have two tattoos, two cats, and a dog (although soon I will have 3 cats and no dog, he is going to a good home). I will see if I can have my SO take pictures when I get home later.
Ibby • Dec 26, 2006 7:22 pm
I am going to get Hedwig's tattoo from Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

Aliantha • Dec 26, 2006 7:28 pm
You know Ibram, a tattoo is something that becomes an integral part of you. Even forms part of your identity to a lesser or greater extent.

For that reason, it should be a decision made entirely and soley by you. That's what I feel anyway.
zippyt • Dec 26, 2006 7:52 pm
Ibram I have NO tats , One rule a guy I knew in the Marines told me ,
"NEVER get you girlfriends ( or significant Other ) name Tattoed on you , shit happens , things change , the people in your life change .
Just a word of advice .
Aliantha • Dec 26, 2006 7:54 pm
That's a good point too Zippy. I know I thought long and hard about getting hubby's name inked on, but then figured there's always laser therapy if it doesn't work out. ;)
zippyt • Dec 26, 2006 8:01 pm
Or you could get his name covered up with a design , I have seen this done well and I have seen it done VERRRRRRRRRY badly !!!
From what I have seen Lazer leaves a scar , it can be minimilized , but it is still a scar .
Aliantha • Dec 26, 2006 8:11 pm
Yeah, I've seen them covered with a new design. I've actually seen a guy who had a name just completely blotted out.

Hopefully, and with a bit of good luck and better management, I'll not have to worry about any of the above mentioned options though. ;)

You don't need a tattoo or a laser to receive a scar.
Aliantha • Dec 26, 2006 8:14 pm
Profound
Iggy • Dec 27, 2006 1:03 am
Here are my tattoos. The dragon is on my lower back, and the iguana is on my belly (obviously). I love them very much and wouldn't change anything about them. I want more!!!

Also, now you know where I got my cellar handle (is that what you would call it?). I also had a pet iguana for 7 years. He passed away. I miss him very much.
zippyt • Dec 27, 2006 1:14 am
Nice Iggy , but we need to see the Whole pacakge to judge properly ;)
Iggy • Dec 27, 2006 1:23 am
I will have to think that one over Zippy. Give me time... I'm new to this post-a-photo-of-yourself-on-the-internet thing!
zippyt • Dec 27, 2006 1:35 am
Whear some shades and post as anonamuse ( Spellin !!)
Iggy • Dec 27, 2006 1:38 am
:lol2: But see, the tattoos give it away now. I am a marked woman!
zippyt • Dec 27, 2006 1:56 am
marked woman!

They meerly Enhance your Beauty !!!
Crimson Ghost • Dec 27, 2006 8:20 am
For various personal and professional reasons, I never got a tattoo.
I think zippyt and I talked to the same guy.
BUT, I must say that some facial tattoos are quite, well... you decide.
Sundae • Dec 27, 2006 1:51 pm
It was very hard to get a good picture of mine, as it's at exactly the right point on my lower back to avoid detection (got it in in the days when jeans came right up to your waist!)

Here are two photos - the paler one is about right for size and proportions, but the flash made the colours really faded. The darker one is about the right colour, but I twisted about too much, so it's longer and thinner than it is when I'm at rest.

Strawberries have been a personal symbol of mine since I was a child. One of my pet names was Berrily and although no-one calls me that now I still feel anything berry-related is special to me.
Elspode • Dec 27, 2006 2:16 pm
The guy with the skull facial tat shouldn't have had all those zits tattooed on with the other stuff. Detracts from the illusion. I mean, from the illusion that his head is a skull, not that he's a flippin' idiot. That comes through very clearly.
Q baby • Dec 27, 2006 5:53 pm
well i got a picture of a few of them before my camera battery died. so, with a little patience....we are charging.

actually i only have a photo of one, not a digital pic, so this is a good excuse to make a library of my ink now!
zippyt • Dec 27, 2006 6:15 pm

Q baby • Dec 27, 2006 6:49 pm
OK, question: one of my tattoos has colors going from red to purple, through the rainbow, and i have heard that means you are gay or bi, which i am neither. is that true, and if so do i need to have my 'colors' changed?
zippyt • Dec 27, 2006 6:55 pm
if you Have to ask ;)
Aliantha • Dec 27, 2006 7:04 pm
I've never heard that Q Baby. Maybe it's something different over there?

If I were in your position I don't think I'd worry about getting the colours changed just because someone says that those colours signify something to them. It's what they signify to you that matters.
Aliantha • Dec 27, 2006 7:08 pm
I don't think skull dude is really tattooed. I think it's just temporary art.

The second one makes me feel ill. I wouldn't like to run into that guy on a bad day.
Q baby • Dec 27, 2006 7:45 pm
don't change colors based on others opinions...good, cuz that crap Stingzzz!
JayMcGee • Dec 27, 2006 7:47 pm
tbh, I've long been a fan of the Edinburgh tattoo..... ah, the skirl of the pipes.....
Q baby • Dec 27, 2006 11:43 pm
here's one of them, the rainbow 'thingy' (i say that because i have no idea what it means, IF it even means anything-the tat peeps said it didn't...by the way, i don't completely trust tat peeps when it comes to things like that):
Aliantha • Dec 27, 2006 11:58 pm
Why would you allow someone you don't trust to do a tattoo for you?
zippyt • Dec 28, 2006 12:03 am
i say that because i have no idea what it means, IF it even means anything-the tat peeps said it didn't...by the way, i don't completely trust tat peeps when it comes to things like that):

Then why the HELL did you have it tattoed on you ?????
Being a rainbow colored design it could be a sign for " likes it rough up the poop shoot with a half ripe comquat !!!!!" or some such
Aliantha • Dec 28, 2006 12:06 am
Being a rainbow could mean you're one of Mia Farrow's kids.

Aliantha wrote:

this tat is the reason i don't trust them now.

hey, the thread said to tell the story so i am!
plus i'm a goober.
Aliantha • Dec 28, 2006 12:19 am
goober means snot over here
Q baby • Dec 28, 2006 12:20 am
'booger' means snot ball over here.

(p.s. i am still trying to get the size of the pics that i post right.)
Aliantha • Dec 28, 2006 12:23 am
So why did you get that particular tattoo then? Did you just walk in and choose that design or did you think about it for a while?
Q baby • Dec 28, 2006 12:26 am
i'd looked at it a few times on their display boards, asked what it meant, was told 'nothing' and still thought it looked cool. only after did i question it.
Aliantha • Dec 28, 2006 12:30 am
Cool.

I was given some good advice when I was thinking about getting my first tattoo. I was told to take the design and put it on my bathroom mirror (or somewhere else it'd be seen every day multiple times) and if at the end of a month I didn't want to change it in any way, then maybe in another month I'd be ready to get it on my skin.

It has proven to be very sage advice for me.
Q baby • Dec 28, 2006 12:35 am
i'll post some other tats tomorrow. =)

post yours!
Aliantha • Dec 28, 2006 12:44 am
I did. They're at the start of this thread. I don't have a pic of my latest one as yet.

If it's off bmezine, it's more than likely real.

I just know that someday, if not already, that boy is going to be my tax dollars at work. At least I hope he's a boy.
wolf • Dec 28, 2006 1:27 am
Welcome, Q. Interesting work, but I still don't get the whole why you got it when you didn't know what it was aspect ... particularly a piece that big. It's not something that will be easy to do a coverup for.
Aliantha • Dec 28, 2006 1:28 am
Well, whether it's real or not, I still think it's horrible.

I think you're more than likely right about your tax dollars Wolf. I can't see any reasonable employer taking that guy on.

No, no, no.....the right way is stumble into the tattoo parlor blind drunk and have your drinking buddies pick something out. When you wake up in the ally, it'll be like a surprize gift... like Christmas. :lol2:

is that the story behind that tattoo?

here's another of mine. story being i've always liked tigers:
Sundae • Dec 28, 2006 4:09 pm
Bruce - is that a bare behind?

Q Baby - don't take this the wrong way, but any chance you could use the caps key? Forgive me if you're on an e e cummings trip, but it's sending my punctuation sensor loopy... Nice tattoos btw - don't worry about what the rainbow one means, you got it because it looked good to you, therefore that is its official meaning now.

A friend of mine got married like that....

Have any of you got a tat that you now regret?
For example:
A kid I worked with about twenty years ago (Holy shit, just seeing it in print makes me feel old) decided it would be cool to get a "Night of the Hunter" set of tats. Ya know the ones - "LOVE" on the right knuckles and "HATE" on the left. When he quit the job, he couldn't find a job because of them.
Or:
A young woman was brought in one afternoon.
Suicide by overdose.
On her pubic area was tattooed "Slippery When Wet".
That was an... Interesting note on the report.
zippyt • Dec 30, 2006 5:18 pm
Or the friends wife with USDA PRIME on her ass , apperently she and some friends had snuck into a slauter house when under the influnce , and well I guess you can say she got it in the end !!!

I love to see tattoos on other people, but I would never consider it for myself. The idea of permanently altering myself through a single in-time decision is offputting:P
xoxoxoBruce • Dec 30, 2006 7:29 pm
Dana, your appearance changes every day. Aging, scars and even changing wardrobe.
A tattoo that is sometimes covered is just another part of your wardrobe.;)
DanaC • Dec 30, 2006 7:54 pm
changes I don't mind. Voluntarily making a permanent change isn't something I'd want to do. *smiles* It probably comes from having such bad eczema when i was younger. Spent too long wishing for clear skin to start drawing on it :P

Because I'm too much of a whimp . . .

And, too indecisive . . .

I go for the temporary tattoos . . . (shoot, my pics are on the other hard drive)
Aliantha • Dec 30, 2006 9:21 pm
I didn't decide to start getting tattoos till I was quite old by many standards. I think I said I'd had my first one ten years ago, but I've been thinking about that, and it hasn't been that long. More like about 7 I think. That would have made me about 27 when I got my first. The second one was a year or so later, and it's taken me 5yrs to feel strongly enough about getting the next one. I'd say I'll get more in the future. I think like most people, once you get your first, you'll always want more. Some people don't though, and that's cool. I can't say I'm in a hurry to face up to the pain again too soon though. ;)
Q baby • Jan 1, 2007 12:26 pm
I started getting tattoos a long time ago. I got a few all in a period of a few years, and haven't got a new one in a few years. I am 31 now, not that i feel like i'm too old to get one, just been getting on with living life and none of the ones i've seen have really jumped out at me to make me want a new one. i really like dragons also so i got this one. it was originally solid black in the tat shop, i had the guy add some color.
