The Ashes

Aliantha • Nov 24, 2006 11:15 pm
Australia is off to a great start in the first test. England all out for 157 in the first innings after chasing a hefty lead of over 600 set by the Aussies.

What say you pomms???
wolf • Nov 25, 2006 1:53 am
I have absolutely no idea what you just said.
Aliantha • Nov 25, 2006 2:56 am
Hubby says, "that's why the US is never going to be a civilized country. Even the Canadians play cricket, albeit fairly badly."
DucksNuts • Nov 25, 2006 3:02 am
She said "blah blah blah blah....pomms".

But yeah, we are certainly rocking, we had a few beers at work whilst watching the cricket yesterday.
Aliantha • Nov 25, 2006 3:13 am
I spent the day clicking on baggygreen.com to get updates. It was well worth it.
DucksNuts • Nov 25, 2006 3:38 am
Do you have a Boonie?

I spent the arvo at the springnats, hence my sunburned bits.

Why, when you get a heap of drunk men and cars in the same vicinity, do they(the drunk men, not the cars) think "show us your tits" appropriate conversation?
Aliantha • Nov 25, 2006 3:43 am
No...don't have a boonie. Can't stand VB.

Ummm...I''m not sure about that, but it could be a bit like when I ask Jay to 'show us ya guns' earlier today.
DucksNuts • Nov 25, 2006 3:47 am
How'd that go for ya?

Hold on? Jay = ???
Hagar • Nov 25, 2006 3:50 am
Fielding chart printed and stuck to the sun visor in the car, radio locked on.

Now all we need is some decent competition...
DucksNuts • Nov 25, 2006 3:53 am
Why do you have a fielding chart on your visor and what is one?
Aliantha • Nov 25, 2006 4:11 am
lol...yeah Jay. He made a lewd comment a few days ago, so I was just going on with it.

Check out the something thread. I'll find out which one. Hang on.
Aliantha • Nov 25, 2006 4:24 am
Hmmm...could have been my imagination...but I know he wants me. :D
DucksNuts • Nov 25, 2006 5:04 am
and so he should!!!!

he'd be mad if he didnt
Aliantha • Nov 25, 2006 5:23 am
You flatter me! lol don't stop
DucksNuts • Nov 25, 2006 6:15 am
hmf
DanaC • Nov 25, 2006 8:05 am
Cricket....God I hate cricket. Cricket= Sundays at Gran's house, bored shitless and silent on a green leather sofa whilst Dad and Gran stare intently at the screen.

Even the sound of a cricket ball hitting the bat makes me depressed.....tennis too....and snooker.
wolf • Nov 25, 2006 11:35 am
I'll have you know that I live down the street from The Philadelphia Cricket Club!

(I think they stopped playing cricket there in the mid-1920s)

(Okay, their website says they've started it up again, but it's a very exclusive private club, and they don't let the riff-raff from down the street on the property just to watch nice young men in white sweaters)
DucksNuts • Nov 25, 2006 4:24 pm
Ohhh yeah, I'm with you Dana.

'cept its my parents place, with my Dad going "SHOOOOSH". Wtf does he need us to shoosh why he's watching cricket??? not like he's gonna miss any important commentary!!!

I dont mind tennis though (mainly 'coz Andy Roddick is a bit of alright to look at but I do drool when he actually speaks).

Wolf - the riff-raff wouldnt be wanting to watch the nice young men play cricket anyways would they?? There's other stuff to do isnt there?
DanaC • Nov 25, 2006 4:39 pm
Yeah....whatever happened to drink and drugs?

Just a little diagram of all the fielding positions. I still get my "Long-on's" confused with my "Long-off's"!
DucksNuts • Nov 26, 2006 1:12 am
My favorite position is *silly mid on/off*

No - thats not a sexual position either...well..i guess it could be, but I havent come across it.
Aliantha • Nov 26, 2006 3:16 am
We call that position 'fucking stupid mid on/off' in our house.
Aliantha • Nov 26, 2006 7:37 pm
Looks like the poms are going down with a resounding bang before lunch today. Imagine losing a test match by more than 500 runs. What a thrashing. :D
Aliantha • Nov 26, 2006 9:12 pm
Well it's all over! (before lunch)...

I hope there's a bit more competition in the next test.
DucksNuts • Nov 26, 2006 11:03 pm
youre a big meanie Ali
Aliantha • Nov 26, 2006 11:04 pm
yeah...I am. :)

--snip--

omg

I don't drink, VB, or anything else, don't play cricket, and even I want a Boonie!
Aliantha • Nov 27, 2006 6:39 pm
What's the point of having a boonie if you don't watch cricket? Do you even know what one is???
Aliantha • Dec 5, 2006 10:46 pm
Well, the Aussies took out the second test in amazing style after a strong start by the poms. Pity they dropped their bundle in the second innings, but I guess that's just the pommies for you. ;)

Puts the pressure on them now though. The third test should be a ripper!

AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE!!!
Hagar • Dec 5, 2006 11:55 pm
That went from being the most boring test match ever to being one of the most exciting. I heard the TV ratings earlier today: Three million viewers in Australia.
Aliantha • Dec 6, 2006 12:24 am
I was watching it with my kids. It was very exciting. Did you get a chance to have a peek?
Hagar • Dec 7, 2006 12:42 am
Yup, I was lucky enough to be at home doing "paperwork" and saw about the last two hours!
Aliantha • Dec 7, 2006 1:08 am
Really? What sort of paperwork? lol

The last couple of hours were the best couple, since we were batting. I got to watch the full days play, so I considered myself quite fortunate as it all unfolded. :)
Aliantha • Dec 18, 2006 12:46 am
WoooooHoooooooooooo!!!!!

Australia has won back the ashes!

Better luck next time you pommies. ;)
Hagar • Dec 28, 2006 2:03 am
Memo to England: Test matches are meant to go for FIVE days.
lookout123 • Dec 29, 2006 4:25 pm
Oh Geez - where are the mods??? this is obviously mistakenly placed in the Sports Forum.
wolf • Dec 30, 2006 1:16 am
It's neither Current, nor an Event, and there's no Home Base in cricket, despite their calling that funny looking thing a "bat." I looked in the rules.

So it stays here, until we can come up with something better.

Thinking ...

no. Entertainment doesn't work either.

If they would talk about what to have during the tea interval, I'd think about moving it to food and drink, but neither Vegemite nor Marmite are food so ...

Like I said. It stays here.
Aliantha • Dec 30, 2006 3:33 am
Who removed my post suggesting that some people simply have no class and why was it removed?
Undertoad • Dec 30, 2006 7:06 am
Nobody and cos it wasn't?
Aliantha • Dec 30, 2006 6:59 pm
It was there UT...unless there was some glitch in the system, however, it did appear on the screen after I clicked the post quick reply button.

Oh well, doesn't matter. You lot will never understand the finer nuances of the sport anyway. :)
CzinZumerzet • Dec 30, 2006 7:20 pm
As cricket lover of years and years standing (I used to book my holidays to coincide with tests) this has been a depressing few weeks, but the Aussie team have been outstanding. I guess England didn't stand a chance when the Aussies are on such wonderful form.

Respect to them. Cancel the open top bus....
Aliantha • Dec 30, 2006 7:23 pm
Better luck next time Czin. ;) At least Warne wont be in the side. :(
CzinZumerzet • Dec 31, 2006 7:07 am
I understand he is coming here to play for Hampshire...? But definitely one of the greatest ever, hero material, and lovely thighs...
Aliantha • Dec 31, 2006 11:27 pm
He's been playing there for a few seasons now I believe. Can't say I'm very enamoured of him as a man, but as a cricketer he's brilliant. Actually, as a man, I think he's a pathetic example.
