Web Browser Spell Checkers

skysidhe • Oct 22, 2006 12:20 pm
I am thinking about a browser spell checker. It would be nice if the cellar had one since I am a sloppy speller. :o

I see something called IE Spell and this one.

anyone try any of these??

Firefox2 has a spell checker, works nicely.

The Cellar has spelling check. That little check mark with the ABC over it, above the smilies. Try it, you'll like it. :D
Even the quick reply box has it.

Do not forget that the spell-checker will not be able to help you when it comes to grammar .

well whoda thunkit.

I don't know if this is related, but I use spellcheck.net, it's very good i think, easy fixes in there!

When I click on the check mark, it ask to download something, not check my spelling. So some of the above statement is untrue?:D

Yes, download the spellchecker. Once you do that, it works automatically when you click the check mark. You don't expect UT to hold it for you, do ya?
skysidhe • Oct 29, 2006 7:18 am
I don't have a check mark or and a,b,c available above my smilies.

Know that I did not.

I also don't have a check mark in either the advanced or standard toobar above my text window.

About FireFox, I thought 2.0 was in beta, and when I clicked check for updates in my ver 1.5, it did not offer it as a download. I just went to the site and it has it for download, with no mention of beta. I'm going to upgrade it today.

I also like to cut and paste into a word processing application for spell checking. Not to be paranoid, especially with something I am posting anyway, but I prefer to keep it inhouse.

What? When you click on the "Post Reply" button you don't see this?

Nope. I'm going to rummage through my Cellar settings to see if I need to check/uncheck something.

Switching from WYSIWYG to enhanced standard did not add the spell checker. I logged out and back in to be sure.

I learnt how to spell as a child . And here I am casting spells .
fargon • Oct 30, 2006 10:38 am
I have Google spell check on my tool bar, and it works good. When I first started posting here people were giving me a hard time because of my spellin. I now use the spell checker and I feel as smart as everybody else here.:dunce:

Bruce, I think that may be IE specific. I don't see it in Firefox and never have. But when I load up IE it shows up.

Damn, I thought the Cellar program (vBulletin) dictated what everyone sees. :o

I have Firefox and don't have it.

While I'm at it, I also don't have the ability to post a reply with the Alt-S combo with the new (stoopid) FF2.0 and I'm pissed. A reward to the first person to solve this connumdrum: A tip jar hit in their name. Ready go!

Shit. "History" again. I mean :creeeps the mousey over teh postquickreply button.... click: grrrrrrrrRRRRR
Undertoad • Oct 31, 2006 5:43 pm
To restore Alt+S in FireFox 2:

Open up a new Window/Tab and type “about:config” in the address bar.

In the Filter bar type: “ui.key.contentAccess” and press enter.

Double click the item and change the value from 5 to 4.

You rock so hard, UT.

I do not offer this as anything like "news", I just wish to publicly acknowledge the truth of the matter.

Thank you, (again) sir.
BigV • Nov 1, 2006 1:54 pm
ka-CHING!

You have earned the hit to the tip jar in your name. I would include a link (as I often do) to the subject of my post, but I could not make the link behave properly. So I'll rely on plain text to communicate my message.

People, on the front page of The Cellar, at the bottom on the right hand side is an icon for PayPal. When you click on it you will start a secure process by which you may make a donation to the care and feeding of The Cellar. I *urge* you all to do so. Your help matters, just as much as your jokes and your insight and your flames. Show your support this election season by voting with your pocketbook for The Cellar!

btw, UT, the :2cents: to the right of the decimal is not a typo, it's on behalf of Ibram's input, for the effort, say.

Holy smokes! How did I get TWELVE COPIES OF THAT LAST POST WITH ONE KEYPRESS???!!!!
BigV • Nov 1, 2006 1:57 pm
oooooookay... I deleted *one* and the other ten vanished.

note to self, lay off the cold medicine before lunchtime.... yeesh.
BigV • Nov 1, 2006 2:01 pm
Plus I get to shed that stupid (but effective) user title. You're all stoked about that one, aren't you?
richlevy • Nov 2, 2006 8:10 pm
OK, I just checked and the spell checker shows up in IE6 but not in Firefox 2.0. WTF?
