September 28, 2006: Man pulls a car with his eyelids

Lurker/new user chrishill suggests this item from BBC Day in Pics. The official caption:

Dong Changsheng, 44, pulls a car for about 10m (30ft) with his lower eyelids in Changchun in Jilin Province, China, one of the stunts he performs with the help of breathing exercises.

With breathing exercises. He does that by breathing a certain way.

Okay.

I hate it when I get so much as a little piece of eyelash in my eye, and this guy has meat hooks in his.

So, how does one begin to desire to attain this "goal." Is there some sort of elite society of eyelid people who gain recognition and monetary advancement?

Those are some serious breathing exercises.

There was a letter to the editor this morning complaining about a picture of a guy with hooks in his eyes. I had missed it, but suppose this was it.

I'm basically speechless. I got nothing. Picture says it all.

I, too, wonder about the process. Did this come about as a bar bet? Some arcane punishment that he eventually became adept at? A mental illness? Is he just really, really bored? There are a lot of things I would try to excel at before I tried the 'pulling a car with my lower eyelids' thing.

I'm glad I looked, because the picture wasn't as bad as the image in my head.

For the record, it actually looks like he's bearing a lot of the weight across his chin and chest. But hooks on your eyelids hurt at any pressure, I'd imagine.

Pulling a car with one's penis was already old news. Go ahead - google it.

I never thought I'd say this, but that's just weird.

Clodfobble is right, he's taking most of the strain with his lower jaw. See how the rings the line attach's to, are resting on the jaw at the corners of the mouth?

This makes everybody squirm because you're calling them hooks. Hooks it the eyes, like snakes on the plane, gets your panties in a bunch because it's just not right. Call them ocular tension devices and all's well.:lol:

My thought was that if the hooks pulled his eyelinds down far enough they'd actually be resting on the bottom of his eye socket which would be a bit more solid and useful for pulling cars... even so its some feat, i really cant see how breathing exercises alone would allow you to do something like that, his pain threashhold must be insane.

Maybe it's just my brain refusing to believe my eyes, but are we sure this is real? Something about the perspective and the cable attached to the front of the car is just not right for me. Someone with lots of photoshop expertise please tell me that this is not happening. Please?

"Strongman" contests are very popular in the Czech Republic and it is no exception for a man to single-handedly pull a locomotive for several metres. But the show that took place in Klasterec nad Ohri was -in a way- exceptional. Pulling a car for 27 metres is no big deal but pulling it by the strength of your penis alone is a first in this country! 34 year old Karel Marek pulled a Nissan Patrol for 27 metres in the manner just described and appeared to have no problem doing so. He covered the 27 metres in 1 minute six seconds, setting a brand new Czech record in this discipline - and possibly a world record as well. But then nobody's standing in line to try and do better.

"Eye" yi yi !!

Photoshop or some image editor, no question. Notice how the light on the guy doesn't match the rest of the photo (even with the shadow past him) and, yes, the perspective, and the edges and the cheese.

Well, three out of four ain't bad.
