What's Your Ringtone?

Sundae • Sep 8, 2006 1:12 pm
Redirect me if it's been asked before....

Mine is old now - not having a PC at home it's not easy for me to change it without paying. Still makes me smile when it rings though:

Tony Christie - Is this the Way to Amarillo?

Used to be Hello, I Love You - Doors, but now its Hey You - Pink Floyd.

I got rid of my cell, but I think a great one would be Lily Tomlin's operator character saying "One ringy dingy. Two ringy dingy..."
Elspode • Sep 8, 2006 2:53 pm
I have a couple of different tones. For general incoming, it is Genesis' "Dance on a Volcano" from "Trick of the Tail". When my eldest son calls, it is "The Twilight Zone Theme". When my wife calls, it is "Witchy Woman".

I was just getting into mangling my own MIDI files for ringtones and uploading them with a hacked loader program for my Nextel when we decided to buy a house. I haven't done much of anything for fun since then.

I'm afraid I'm on beep beep beep as well. I was thinking of putting the Bucky Dent home run call on but I figure I'd tire of it soon and go back to beep...
Clodfobble • Sep 8, 2006 4:01 pm
I desperately wish my phone had a (very) simple beep-beep-beep noise. As a general rule, ringtones bug me. But since paying for one bugs me even more, mine is currently "Waltz of the Flowers" from the Nutcracker Suite, the least offensive one that came with the phone.

A cheesy synthesized version of Megadeth's "Angry Again". But it's cool -- it's the entire song, complete with the solo. I hear it so often that when the actual song came on the radio, it weirded me out.

When I take it off my finger and drop it on the desk, it just makes sort of a clicky sound. The silver's too soft I guess. :o
JayMcGee • Sep 8, 2006 8:08 pm
Don't know what mine is - nobody ever calls me :(

I don't have a cell phone.:)

But all 4 of my vintage rotary dial Western Electric telephones "ring" in the traditional sense of the word.
Shawnee123 • Sep 9, 2006 2:34 pm
Funny you brought up that we still call ringtones "ring." We still say 'dial the telephone' and I haven't seen a rotary dial for years. It was tough sneaking onto the phone when I was a teen and was grounded!

Right now it's the intro from Beru Revue's Hoods-a-Gogo, which will only make sense to people of a certain age from the Philadelphia area.

Prior to that I was using the hotline phone sound from In Like Flint/Our Man Flint.

To mix things up a little bit I also have The Doors - Alabama Song, Pink Floyd - Another Brick in the Wall, Psycho, and The Imperial March from Star Wars.

I realized at work last night that I have to put together a ringtone for They're Coming to Take Me Away.

Just for Wolf, Beru Revue 25th anniversary:

http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/muc/204845676.html

Dopey me, I was actually only vaguely aware of the scene at the time and thus do not know any of the Beru material and thus have no interest. But there it is.
smoothmoniker • Sep 10, 2006 1:21 am
Guitar riff from Layla for anyone that's on my contact list.

"Who Are You" for anyone else.
barefoot serpent • Sep 12, 2006 4:06 pm
I want to get the old dial-up modem screeeeech & howl instead of the boring old bleeep-bleeeep that it does now :(
dar512 • Sep 13, 2006 12:32 am
Mine's something classical that came with the phone. But a gal on the train I take to work has the best ringtone ever. It sounds exactly like a good old Ma Bell phone circa 1960. To hear that on the train cracks me up because it's so retro and so out of place.

There has been much discussion of this on the Beru Yahoo List. I have already ordered my ticket.

There should be music available for download on Bobby Carburetor's site, anditgoes.com, which is a great resource for the Philadelphia Music Scene.

If you find it, let me know - I would LOVE to have that as a dial tone!

I finally got around to doing this.

I don't know if this will work for any phone other than the RAZR V3 via Cingular, but ...

Email your phone the link. Open the email, and then select Go To from the drop down menu. Your phone should automatically download the .mp3 file, save it, and you too can have this unique ringtone.

Of course, if you have another, easier way of transferring data to your phone, go for it.
