Lurkers: Post Once

Flint • Aug 31, 2006 4:52 pm
No pressure. I just think it would be funny if you popped in, made one random comment, and then vanished back into the outer realms...

Every now and then I like to pretend I am an elephant.

Many lurkers do just that. The members list is enlightening.
wolf • Aug 31, 2006 8:29 pm
Flint, you clearly do not understand the culture here.

Lurkers lurk. Every now and again one of them, after years of membership, decides they have something to say. Do not intimidate them into doing so. Actually, intimidating them into doing so has a probability of running them off.

This place is what it is, flint. You cannot remake it in your own image.

Wow! :::speechless::: Am I in the right thread? I figured people knew how to take things as a joke...

"intimidating" ??? That's some harsh language! "remake it in your own image" ??? What does that even mean?

:::slinks away with my tail between my legs::: I guess... I mean... seriously... Yes ma'am! You win, okay?
breakingnews • Sep 1, 2006 4:52 am
your little experiment failed, anyway. only one lurker posted.

do i make two? i am more or less a lurker. in the past, though, i was simply too drunk or stoned to write anything coherent, and usually passed out before hitting the post button.

Iggy • Sep 5, 2006 3:09 pm
I used to lurk, but then I found I had stuff to say from time to time, and I got in on the quick posting threads (i.e. word association, Q & A, etc). I prefer to lurk most of the time though.
Madman • Sep 13, 2006 10:19 am
I'm not sure if I qualify as a lurker. Fuck it! I'm a lurker... Ain't that a :nadkick:

No, but they're damn hard to light.
Welcome to the Cellar, next time you post it won't seem so perverted. :D

Whoa, there! Don't intimidate them!
Trilby • Oct 23, 2006 4:40 pm
A Hard Truth: lurkers lurk coz they're into READING--get it?

They don't need to participate--reading gets them off just fine. Who are we to argue with success?
Flint • Oct 23, 2006 4:44 pm
That's what counts as a "hard truth" in your world?

You speak of lurkers like it's a "bad thing"! Lurker, and proud of it!
HungLikeJesus • Apr 3, 2008 11:11 am
No, no. Lurkers are just standing in the shadows of love.

I never said it was a bad thing. I think the post-whores get off on imagining an invisible audience reading their posts...
classicman • Apr 3, 2008 12:08 pm
LOL @ Flint - so true!

Buffalo Bill • Apr 4, 2008 5:24 am
Some peoples are shy, like myself. Plus you all look like you know each others and I hesitate to enter a conversation between friends.
Also, I'm french speaking and my english may not be good enough to participate on a regular basis, but if I write short phrases I should be OK.
I read a lot of the post and it's interresting and fun and I will try to participate even more in the future.

There should be a thread where new members could introduce themselves to the regulars.
DucksNuts • Apr 4, 2008 5:32 am
Hiya Buffalo Bill :)

There's always room for more in the cellar. Never mind if you dont think your english is up to scratch, English is the first language of a few here that I can understand.

Im a sucker for a French accent anyways.
Sundae • Apr 4, 2008 5:50 am
Don't worry Bill, I was wary of such a close knit group when I joined, and I was accepted pretty quickly. Lurk if it makes you happy, but you're welcome to join in if you'd rather.
Buffalo Bill • Apr 4, 2008 6:08 am
I read a lot of the things that you 2 wrotes and I think that it must not have been to hard to get accepted. You usualy post interesting comments, you're both articulate and funny.
I will do my best to be a good member.

Thank's for the welcome
DanaC • Apr 4, 2008 6:35 am
Yey! Welcome to the Cellar Bill!

You'll do fine here. Many people start out a little shy. It can be daunting stepping in to a conversation between friends, as you say. I think that's why so many people make their first entrance through the Image of the Day thread.....there's something there to comment on that isn't dependant upon the dwellar's conversation. Makes a good 'in'.

@ torakanaze.....not sure if you qualify for lurker status...but you qualify for dwellar status :P
Shawnee123 • Apr 4, 2008 9:01 am
Welcome Buffalo Bill!

We don't mind a little language barrier, in fact, we think it's downright charming.

Just jump in when you feel comfortable!

:)

Still alive. Not as busy as I used to be. I delegate now. Delegating work is a good thing. Should have been doing it years ago.

Actually, I think I've posted twice since then. Maybe once. Usually, by time I get to a thread, there's nothing left to say that hasn't been said many times over, so I just read.
Clodfobble • May 16, 2011 3:03 pm
I ain't buying it. The trick is to start with the recent threads on top, there's always a thread with only 1 or 2 posts in it. Jump in there, and save someone else the effort of always making the witty yet insightful posts. It's hard work having to be brilliant all the time, you know!

So how about it? Got a wife? Kids? What's your weirdest hobby?

I agree. By the time I get to looking and reading it seems as though the discussion has fizzled or I really have nothing to say.
