Harris: Non-Christian Politicians 'Legislate Sin'
Spexxvet • Aug 30, 2006 9:54 am
link doesn't work.

“If you are not electing Christians, tried and true, under public scrutiny and pressure, if you’re not electing Christians then in essence you are going to legislate sin,” Harris told the Florida Baptist Witness in an interview last week. “Whenever we legislate sin and we say abortion is permissible and we say gay unions are permissible, then average citizens who are not Christians, because they don’t know better, we are leading them astray and it’s wrong.”

Fixed (oops). First is from TheOnion, second is a "real" article.

I wonder if Florida has enough Jews, Buddhists, Muslims, Pagans, Athiest, Agnostics, Shintos, Hindus, Toaists, Jainists, etc, to keep her ass out of office. I hope so.
Flint • Aug 30, 2006 9:58 am
And people say Christians are just good, harmless people. See what they talk about when they get together ???
Stormieweather • Aug 30, 2006 10:38 am
Katherine Harris is a whackjob. Her entire campaign staff has walked out on her en masse...twice.

Harris, who also described the separation of church and state as a “lie,” ...
:eyebrow:

She apparently thinks her "payback" for Operation: Florida is a license to run amok.
Pangloss62 • Aug 30, 2006 11:47 am
Hey Flint. Did you see when Jon Stewart showed KH giving an interview for CNN? She was so oviously making sure her boobs were prominent in the camera shot; it was embarrasing even for me. Her piousness is so shallow. I think I'm gonna puke::vomitblu:
smoothmoniker • Aug 30, 2006 11:48 am
Harris is a very bad example of an extreme fundamentalist pandering hard toward her base.

And, in the interest of fair play, any extremist of any ilk is bound to sound like a raving lunatic when they pander to their base.
Happy Monkey • Aug 30, 2006 12:47 pm
Oh, don't worry. It's OK:

Harris' campaign released a "Statement of Clarification" Aug. 26 attempting to douse the firestorm.
"In the interview, Harris was speaking to a Christian audience,
See, her words were directed at Christians. If you're not Christian, don't worry. She wasn't talking to you.
addressing a common misperception that people of faith should not be actively involved in government," the statement said.
Yes. That is a common misperception. Just look at how many atheists are in government, and how few people of faith. Some day we'll see someone elected to public office who isn't afraid to admit they believe in God.
Flint • Aug 30, 2006 12:57 pm
Those poor Christians are so oppressed! I really feel for them, when they complain about it...
Spexxvet • Aug 30, 2006 1:01 pm
I'm waiting to hear the phrase "Christian minority".

perfect backgound song.

Do you think she was really showing off her boobs, or do you think she was being jabbed in the back with a hot poker? It might explain the twisted grin/grimmace.

Oh for God's sake, I must second the puking:vomitblu:

She's throwing those babies around like some chick off HeeHaw.
Pangloss62 • Aug 30, 2006 4:51 pm
Well, I saw another video of her riding a horse at some rodeo and she looked like she was wearing one of those topedo-tit-type bras, you know, the ones they had in the late 1950s. Christ! They stuck out nearly a foot. She's just using all the tools she has at her disposal.

Right, because our elected government doesn't need to worry itself over doing the will of anyone who isn't Christian...or God.

You know, that's even more offensive than the original statements, because she's stating rather clearly that non-Christian opinions don't matter.

Good Christian men like boobs as well as the next atheist, you know.

I think she might be leaning up against a "stripper pole". You know the ones - you can see them in any Christian church.;)

First it was the folk masses, now this. Maybe I shouldn't have lapsed after vatican II...

Nononono...that's a crucifix!
Flint • Aug 31, 2006 4:06 pm
Stripper pole, crucifix, why split hairs?
rkzenrage • Aug 31, 2006 8:27 pm
She also said the founding fathers never wanted separation of church and state... she is an idiot of monumental proportions.
wolf • Aug 31, 2006 10:29 pm
No government establishment of religion and separation of church and state are two separate concepts, only one of which is in the Constitution.
Happy Monkey • Aug 31, 2006 11:08 pm
The phrase "separation of church and state", however, does come from one of the founding fathers as a description of the establishment clause.

If they don't screw up the ballot in Palm Beach again, I'd say yes.

Plus the fact that most non-brain-dead Christians can tell the difference between a nun and a whore dressed as a nun.

No, she's a politician. She's playing her voter base, that's what they do. There hasn't been a politician in this country in the last 150 years who put logical leadership ahead of winning the next election.

That actress' expressions looked just like Hyacinth Bucket (pronounced Bouquet).
