7/21/2006: Pacific walrus, pigs beat the heat

xoB sends along this item from the Washington Post Day in Pics: a very nice shot of a Pacific Walrus, getting some relief from the heat.

It's a coin toss whether I prefer this one of piglets getting a veggie ice lolly, at the Pennywell Farm and Wildlife centre near Buckfastleigh, south western England.

I think the pigs are more refreshed. I think the chances that the walrus is still sweltering are pretty good, since their normal habitat includes ice floes to haul out on to rest. I seriously doubt that the water is refrigerated to that extent, or even close to it. I found articles that described walrus bearing waters at 44 deg F as "warm".

Actually, I might run her down, back over her a couple times to make sure she was well and truly fucked, and then go on with my day.

(Not only do I have a number of friends who are Vietnam Vets, but I had an unfortunate incident involving her first workout video and a pair of spandex leggings that she absolutely deserves payback for.)
