& where do you get it.

I hate the perfumy kinds.
Get these on-line now, but used to get them at a booth in our local flea-mkt/farmer's mkt.
Good prices here, but I need to find a new place. They sold my info and I got a ton of spam/junk e-mail after my first order. I was pissed.

I should hate the smell of this, and did the first time I was exposed to it, but now I love it and can't get enough. Don't know why.

I get mine from local head shops. That's about all I know to tell you. I love almost every scent...

I don't burn a lot of incense, but do like jasmine, sage, and some of the spicy-type scents.

I hit a lot of psychic faires and there are always a ton of folks with incense along with several varieties of smokeless smudge and other aromatherapy sprays. A lot of the new-age types are very anti-smoking, some with real and some with fake smoke allergies and sensitivies ... the smokeless smudges and aura cleansing mists are getting very popular.

Check to see if your local mall has a cheap-ass Indian doo-dad and junk store. They usually have an incense and essential oil rack in the back. Also check your dollar store. I have found some pretty good incense in there too ... came in a metal tube and included a small ceramic burner.

I do use sage bundles to smudge the house (need to do that this summer). Get our oils at the flea-mkt.
We have no Indian stores locally, sucks, but I shop them in Orlando... have settled on the brands that I have posted above for my staples, but have a few that I still try. There is a Tibetan/Nepalese ceremonial stick that I am very fond of that comes in a gold box that I grab when I can.
As a Buddhist and with my Native American background, the smoke is part of the reason for burning the stuff... but some that I know will be interested in the smokeless.

That Japanese kind with no burning-wood smell is nice too.

I like putting powdered incense onto those 'self lighting' charcoal briquette thingies. I have some sandalwood squirred away for a ritual emergency, along with a couple of resin incenses including frankincense and copal (black and white). Lavender is good for smudging too.

I burn the self-lighting powder incense in a little labyrinth...

I like sandalwood incense and vanilla and I have a lovely cranberry scent, the kind where you pour some in a special burner thingy so it evaporated due to the flame underneath.

I love incense, most kinds, but too much gives me a headache...
and to this day, I can't smell incense without remembering and catching a whiff of the unbelievable stench of burning yak fat.

We usually burn nag champa. We brought back some plumeria (well they call it frangipanni or some damn thing) incense cones from Australia & they smell pretty good too.
My husband picked up some incense coils when he was in China, but I don't know what the scent is called. They smell good, but are a bit too heavy/ pungent to burn for long.

what the hell is smudging?

I love the old Gonesh Hindu incense. They went by numbers. I remember #7...I think was perfumes of ancient times. Great stuff. Haven't seen it lately tho...

Smudging is a method of spiritual cleansing of an area, objects, or of a person's aura.

The most common herb to use is sage, but others can be added to the mix depending on your purposes ... lavendar for cleansing, copal for heavier duty work, for example.

The smudging herbs are either already tied in a bundle and lit, or placed loose into a shell, usually a mid-sized to large abalone. A feather or prayer fan is used to direct the smoke, typically in a clockwise manner around the room. The smoke can also be used to purify participants in ceremony, along with ritual objects.

I use a mix of Sage, tobacco, frankincense and myrrh, sometimes some lavender and I put them all in a Tibetan brass censer. Aspects of my European & Native American heritage in there in a Buddhist vessel. Sometimes I'll even add a bit of Buddhist ritual incense to the mix.
As it is purely symbolic to me, and I gain a great deal of comfort from the act. We do the house and cars twice a year.
