A salmon pic for you

seakdivers • Jun 5, 2006 1:08 am
Here's my fish I caught yesterday during the Sitka Salmon Derby. I think I might be in the top 10, but I didn't hear the final results.
This guy weighed about 35-36lbs when we got him on board, but we didn't turn him in for a while so my "official" weight was 33.6. Not exactly a monster, but a decent fish for this time of year. :)

That is a nice looking fish!

Mmm.. salmon. Truly the food of the gods. How do you like yours done? I'm partial to pan-seared and blackened.

Looks like you had to punch him a couple of times.

I knew there was something fishy about you but I didn't think you had blood on your hands.:D

Congratulations, how long is it?

Ewww.....

Anyway, I just went back and looked at my pics and it was just over 40 inches long.

Pervs!

Hey - awards ceremony this evening - I walked away with $250 cash! I was in 13th place.

How many salmon fillets did that baby turn into?

Congratulations! That $250 will help defray the cost of shipping the fish to UT's wedding reception. ;)

Salmon chanted evening
You may see a stranger
You may see a stranger
across a crowded room
And somehow you know,
You know even then
That somewhere you'll see her
Again and again.

We don't get to keep the fish - the Sportsman's Association gets them.

But regardless..... every salmon has the same amount of fillets. Two. One on each side. :)
BigV • Jun 9, 2006 8:19 pm
STEAKS! I think he meant steaks. Griff knows more about goats than salmon, inland, y'know, but he's a swell guy.
Griff • Jun 9, 2006 9:12 pm
:) I actually typed steaks erased it and put in fillets after looking at the label of the store bought salmon in the fridge. I will update my vocab to meet standards. $7.99 a pound?!!! We both got ripped off Seakdiver!

Fillets is acceptable, if that's the way it's cut, V.

How big was the winner?

Salmon, chartered dinghy,
You may see a stringer,
You may see a stringer,
Across a chowdered room.
And salmon, you know,
You know, reel them in!
That salmon, you'll see her
Again and again.

[/spike jones imitation]

happy?

This reminds me of 'Wet Dream', by Kip Adotta.

It was April the forty-first
Being a quadruple leap year
I was driving in downtown Atlantis
My barracuda was in the shop
So I was in a rented stingray
And it was overheating

So I pulled into a Shell Station
They said I'd blown a seal
I said, "Fix the damn thing
And leave my private life out of it
Okay pal?"

While they were doing that
I walked over to a place called the Oyster Bar, a real dive
But I knew the owner
He used to play for the Dolphins
I said "Hi Gil"
You have to yell, he's hard of herring

The quote is incomplete, you can go to the link for the rest.

55lbs. Not bad. My mom won a couple of years ago with a 47 pounder. The biggest one to win was 73lbs.

$7.99/ lb is what you would pay for farmed fish. Fresh kings up here are going for $17-18/ lb.
Christ - I gave away a $600 fish! :) Happy to do it though.
