What song was this?

talk about ridiculous...

Ok, there was a song that the rock stations were playing about 6 or 7 years ago, started out sounding like a traditional Irish song then broke out into a rock song but the singer had a definite Irish accent...

It sounded sort of like Delerium form there Poem through Chimera phase.
Can anyone name that song?

Also, who can provide some groups in a similar genre to Delerium, Lunik, Nerina Pallot, enigma, Loreena McKennitt?

hmmm.. Metallica covered Whiskey in the Jar a while back but I don't think thats the one you mean. There's a talented band out of Rochester, NY that has that sound but they never get any play, Kilbrannon.

Going in a more traditional direction you might try Solas, Seamus Egan, and Cherish the Lady.

Hey Griff thanks,

I have listened to both Seamus Egan and Cherish the Ladies. Both very good. I haven't tried Solas yet. I like that added rock sound to more classic sounds sort of like Bond and Trans Siberian do.

Know of any samples around for that local band you mentioned?

Ahhhh (slap forehead) For those of you that know wolfstone - that song I am looking for was very similar to their stuff, but with a female singer.

(Hoarse male chant)I get knocked down,
I get up again,
and yer never gonna keep me down;
I get knocked down,
I get up again,
and yer never gonna keep me down!

(Light airy female voice) Pissin the night away,
Pissin the night away.......

(male talking) He drinks a whiskey drink,
he drinks a lager drink,
He drinks a vodka drink,
and a cider drink.
He sings the songs that remind him of the the good times,
he sings the songs that remind him of the better times.

That one?

There should be stuff here but I can't get it to work...

Apparently Kilbrannon broke up but two key guys started a band called Stone Row which may or may not still exist.

Ironic how it was played to death on the radio. I'll have to search for more of their stuff. track suggestions?

Uh... Tubthumping. I think you misread what I said, I said that Tubthumping was their only good song.
