Ottawa, Canada's capital
Born and raised, and will probably die because I have hermit tendencies.
A great place to live, if you can forget how much we get taxed......
For the country's capital though, you'd think it'd be bigger, or at least fell bigger. Population of around 1 million, but feels like a small town sometimes....
Grown in leaps and bounds in the last five years. Who knows what'll happen in the next 5.......... :rolleyes:

A friend of mine lives in the Providence of Saskatchewan. He says it is flat terrain and on the highway you can see for miles. I get updates on the weather weekly. The way he describes it it seems like it's alot like Nebraska. That said, is Ottawa alot like the eastern part of the US?
I would love to go live in Canada but it seems colder than Seattle Washington .
I'm in Ontario a lot. Never been to Quebec. Always had the impression that Quebec wasn't too keen on the rest of Canada.
My uncle teaches at the University of Alberta, and we went to visit him a few times when I was younger. I remember getting the distinct impression that your animal protection laws were insane--on three different occasions, we found ourselves in a restaurant where a smallish animal had gotten inside, and because it was illegal to even shoo them out the door again, they were allowed to just sort of scurry around under the tables eating dropped food. Of course as a young girl I thought they were a good deal cuter than my parents did. :) Perhaps that was a local thing though, I don't really remember what parts of Canada we were visiting at the time.
I was talking to my mother, in MA, today (mother's day). She said one of my cousins from Ontario and husband visited this week and of course while down here did a lot of shopping. They were greatly disappointed they couldn't find any American made cotton clothing, anywhere. They didn't realize we get the same crap here, they do up there......it's just cheaper here.:(

Hard to find though. There are a few outlets for American made goods but few and far between. :(

I've got lots of family in Toronto, visited there many times, WAY too big for me. 4 million people, everybody seems to be in their own little world, there's no sense of community.....maybe I'm a country boy at heart?
I recently had a chat with some Torontonians who said they couldn't find downtown Ottawa.

Ottawa is growing pretty fast, we have a light rail system now that's expanding to Ottawa's south end by 2009, the forecast is for VERY rapid growth leading up to that event and well past it.
Great, that means my taxes will go up :mad:
I liked Ottawa OK. I would like to skate on the Rideau, the Senators are a pretty good team, the Nat'l Art Museum is very nice, the copper covered gov't buildings are scenic. But best of all, there are none of those pesky Montrealers to ride your ass for not speaking Frog :)

It's a wonderful country. Beautiful scenery, beautiful English speaking people. Amazing contrasts from the Fundy coast to the Manitoba plains to the British Columbia mountains to the french speaking people.;)
Yes , I will try to go there . I must go to the United States too . I would also like to check out St Pierre et Miquelon , that little piece of France just south of Newfoundland . Cod and cold . Very good for the soul , I'm sure . Anyone been there ?
I have also always wanted to taste that maple syrup poured over snow . I have always wanted to see a racoon too .
