Dude... that could be the beginnings of retinal detachment. Go to the eye doctor now unless you don't mind the possibility of losing sight in that eye entirely.

wrt retinal detachment:

Young man got hit in the face with a potato gun. Broke orbital socket, detached retina, etc. "Therapy" was to be FACE DOWN for a couple of weeks. 24/7. He had a little stand with padded ring that he rested his face in. It was up on legs about 10 inches high, so he could put a plate of food under it, or a book or any thing he needed to have in front of his face, and he remained in that postition for the entire period. Something having to do with the retina "floating" to the top (the back when looking downward) and remaining in place during the healing process. Better than being blind, but a major pain in the neck (figuratively and literally). Please report on eye doctor visit.

Back from the eye doc. just a bunch of astigmatism in my left eye. He was surprised that I don't have any farsightedness as is common in people of my anecdotage. He did recommend bifocals, since I could "crisp up" (my words) a bit. I think the reading addition is about 1x. The left eye was pretty wacked out.

The visit plus the specs put a small dent in the construction budget, not so small that a luna moth wouldn't notice...

He also said that I should have my cholesterol checked. People with high cholesterol have a ring of fat around their cornea, though not all people with a ring around their corneas have high cholesterol.

So, another trip to another doc.

And of course, I am going to take advantage of our country's marvelous healthcare plan. Ohh whoa. I thought I was in Canada. I meant to say I am self insured.

Still, what I've spent on doctors and meds in the past 20 years wouldn't add up to three months of health insurance premiums.

Did you get lined bifocals? Also, if one eye is much worse than the other, be prepared for a BIG adjustment when you first wear them. As long as everything is clear, all the other weird perception issues will go away - just put them on and leave them on. And please don't tell me you got them at a chain store.

Yes to lined bifocals. As for the big adjsutment, I know it will be tough because 15 years ago I got my first pair of glasses with a much milder correction and everything was slanted, nothing looked square, I was practically staggering around. I stopped wearing them after a short while, prefering the soft fuzzy look. Now the soft fuzzy look has become passe.

Just say no to chain stores. I like the doc, I like the service, what's 20 bucks more here and there? I ordered the bendy twisty frames, something flex, lined bifocals, and some really stealth antiglare program.

$355. for the whole thing, not including the exam. $99.

I've no idea if I've been had. It seems like a lot of money, but I don't do this very often.

i, too, wear bifocals. frames and lenses (bificoals cost beaucoup) can initially really set you back; so, in answer to your answer. this sounds reasonable to me on the cost side.
wolf • May 25, 2006 2:16 pm
That's close to what I end up paying for frames and single vision lenses correcting for astygmatism, plus the fancy ass coatings and edge polishing. Of course, I have never been able to buy frames off the cheap rack.

The edge polishing is meant to camoflage the fact that I have damn thick glasses, even if I get the teeny ones that basically just cover my eyes. The clear edges seem to make it easier to see when I'm heading toward the ends of the lenses in my field of view. I really miss peripheral vision.

Hey, Spexxvet, has anybody come up with extended wear toric contacts yet?

$355 is reasonable for flex (probably Flexon) frames and a good anti-reflective coating.

The FDA has approved Purevision toric lenses for up to 30 days continuous wear. But don't do it. It's really not good to sleep in any contact lenses - whether they're approved or not.

Good news Foot , just some corrective lenses !!!
WEAR THEM !!!!!
get used to them !!!
I have been wearing glasses since the 7n'th grade , my mom didn't think I needed glasses untill my hunting buddy told her
" He Realy can't see the ducks , he is listening to them and shooting in their direction !!!" I could ALWAYS hear them befor he could see them !!!
After I got glasses I ALWAYS out shot him , shooting trap , dove and ducks !!!
I recently had to get bifocals as well , but I went for the no line version ,
I have 3 pairs of glasses ,
1) for general wear ,no line bifocals , poly carbinet ( sorry ) , for safety .
2) polorized sunglasses with a mild green tint
3) Reading glasses for , well reading and puter work , close small work in general , etc,,,

Oh and a pic for how I am feeling ,

I couldn't wear them because the working part of the lineless bifocals is only about the center third of the width of the lens. Had to keep moving my head from side to side just to read the width of a page.:(
zippyt • May 27, 2006 1:25 pm
point your nose at what you want to see,
These have messed with my periphial vision but I am getting used to them ,
Actualy they are like tri-focals . there is the standard vision at the top , then middle vision , then close vision
xoxoxoBruce • May 27, 2006 2:02 pm
Actually the last time, I got trifocals for work. Top for far, bottom for close and the center for when somebody is trying to show me something on their computer screen without me sticking my head in between them and the damn screen.

He is turning red. I think she is killing him.

I guess if people are going to take a shot like that the participants could at least pretend they were liking it.

I have a couple cases of that around here somewhere ...

Not bad for cheap shootin' ammo, except that it's lacquer coated and can get messy to clean the weapon. Also the place I prefer to go won't allow steel cased ammo ... they sort and clean brass for reloading, and don't want to have to pull out the steel cases.
