Guitar Building

I'm in the process of building a guitar, though I'm still in the planning stage. I've drawn up a life-sized template for a possible design, based closely on this bass:

I prettymuch used that exactly, except that I rounded the cutaways a lot more, and used my Ibanez RG for the size. My design needs to be equally suitable for Metal, Glam, Punk, whatever I feel like playing.

Other designs I'm considering adapting:

Yes, take some pictures as you go and make a list of materials. Looking forward to it. :thumb2:

As a fellow guitarist, I'm curious...what are you shooting for with the extreme body shapes? And how do such artistic visual statements bear upon the eventual playability/sound quality of the final instrument?

Does the body shape make any sound difference at all for an electric?

I'm not so sure it can do, but what's wrong with some alternative shapes - I quite like the Gothic (maybe that should say Gotham) style of the majority of the designs.

The more wood, the more sustain, but its mostly aesthetic.
