4/7/2006: Moose stuck in swingset

From the full story here, this moose was merely trying to snack on a tasty backyard hedge when it got tangled in the swingset's chains. The homeowner called police for help, and it took bolt cutters to free the beast. He's young, not full-grown, but still weighs about 400 pounds.

"It didn't like the idea too much that I stayed close to it, but it stayed calm," Valliere said Friday. "The only thing I was nervous about was getting bit."

The rescue went smoothly and the moose was freed. It left without looking back.

"It just real slow, just walked away," Valliere said.

And probably muttered something like "I meant to do that."

at 400 pounds, you think he might have just walked away dragging the swing set along behind him... poor moose.

And so, Rocky's adventure into suburban America ended.

Who are they trying to kid, here? I know a moose trap when I see one!

You mean the guy didn't get rewarded like the dude freeing the moose from the ice? :headshake

We'll see more of this, traffic accidents too. They've moved all the way down to southern MA and starting to venture into CT.
More moose + more people = more trouble.

I've never met a moose, but from this and previous IOTD's it is my assumption that maybe they are as dumb as they look. Even as a kid, I thought Bullwinkle had lost a little tackle down the stream somewhere..........

The old swingset in our back yard had its legs set in concrete blocks. Took me a whole day to dig them out, and then I had to smash the concrete blocks with a mallet to make the pieces light enough to carry.

If the swingset had been a yoke, I don't think that even that would have been a problem for a moose. But since it was a chain, pulling would tighten it, and I doubt he would have enjoyed that.

cuuuute. he looks so damn cute. looks like the chain was around his neck too.. ouch. this reminds me of something that my goat would do, just ALWAYS turns everything into a tangley, ridiculous situation.
