Sure you do, just look at the This is Porn thread... or the Sandra Day O'Connor threads (I loved them )
Flint why are you trying to school us on how to make a message board suck? Your board sucked and now its gone - you should take a lesson from that, not us.
Flint • Apr 1, 2006 3:42 pm
Sure, AudioGalaxy sucked so bad that people kept coming to an MP3 trading site for many years after it was sued by the RIAA. But, to your point, I believe that the number of "helpful suggestions" being offered is not coming from "us", as lothe as I am to continue lumping "us" together into this artificial category, but rather the opposite. Why do "we" need to be "schooled" on using a message board? Like I keep telling people, if I have any problems, I'll let you know. Otherwise, you can assume that if I am still here I am enjoying myself, without any outside "help".
lumberjim • Apr 1, 2006 4:05 pm
you need to be schooled because you're coming into our yard and making an ass of yourself. you're certainly welcome to post, and you, in particular, seem fairly lucent. you should expect some fair amount of crap from the long time members, though, when you shit the board up with flagrantly meaningless threads. this is not that kind of teenie bopper message board. fit in or fuck off.

barak, anyone?
marichiko • Apr 1, 2006 4:14 pm
Audiogalaxy sucked so bad that it died. If it was so wonderful, one of you idiots could have gotten a pay pal thing going to keep the board alive, or even created a free site over on MSN groups. None of you seems to have the ingenuity to re-create AG on a whole new site for yourselves, so you just want to take over the Cellar and are surprised that the people already here might have a problem with this. I backed off and tried to make peace with you for Labrat's sake, but you weren't interested. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. I learned my lesson. Labrat can love you folks all she wants, I won't.

@LJ: I'm just being myself. I'm not an ass-kisser, but I do have alot to contribute. You'll learn to like me, or not. My actions will not be dictated by these possibilities, because it is not within my abilities to influence the perceptions of others.

As a rational person, of course I expect to take shit as a "new guy" - in fact my only complaint has been the redundancy of these analysis/commentaries.

As to the "meaningless threads" - I've only started a few threads here, actually. If y'all would quit bumping them they would be gone by now - which I grow weary of explaining.

Also, the chronological age perception I have addressed in depth, and again I grow weary of repeating myself. You will percieve me as "fitting in" or you will have to < expletive deleted >

@marichiko: There is an AudioGalaxy imitation forum. But I like it here better. It's always funny when people think they are in a "fight" with me, and I thought we were just having a polite conversation among adults. You don't get to know a person in a few days - not in real life and not on the internet either. Oh, and for the thousandth time: who said I am "surprised"?

If you like it here better, why are you trying to turn it into adieu gaackasy? Making fun of a post where I expressed my frustration over being hit with a $300 overdraft from my bank is NOT "polite conversation." Hello?

And, no, you don't get to know a person in a day or two. However, when entering a new social situation, most people at least hold back a little and figure out what's going on. For example, most people don't just walk on to their first day on the job and inform their co-workers that from now on they will all act like the people in your old office did.

This is the first grade stuff, and it speaks volumes that we all are being forced to keep repeating it.

Why do "we" need to be "schooled" on using a message board?

i have been a little too busy to mess around with this whole AG invasion pissing match, but this quote from Flint sticks out a bit. i think there is a very basic misunderstanding here. Flint (along with some others) has lost a place to go and post in the way that he is used to posting. he (or she - i haven't paid much attention) stumbled into the cellar and saw all the meaningless BS we talk about here and assumed that the cellar might be a good fit for his posting style/desires.

Here is the real rub - we cellarites, in general, don't see the cellar as a message board. It is a community. Many of the people know each other IRL. although folks from all walks of life are welcomed (car guys, computer geeks, trannies, blue collar, white collar, addicts, and egomaniacs abound) we generally have something in common - a desire to hold somewhat intelligent conversations with a group of people that combined have a tremendous amount of knowledge. as is true of all groups of friends - we spend a lot of time talking about stupid pointless crap that makes us smile or laugh. but we laugh at many things because we "know" the person sharing the message.

if i just wanted random snippets of meaningless drivel in bitesize morsels i'd go to the local sportsbar and listen to the banter. i'd prefer not to see thread after thread started for no apparent reason. it makes it harder to find the gems when i am sifting through the BS (like this thread).

just my take on things. Flint - if you want to be a part of the cellar then Welcome. pull up a chair and join in - please just don't shit on the carpets. Tony just got them cleaned.
capnhowdy • Apr 1, 2006 5:03 pm
just a thought...
If I "stumbled" into a group of people, after a few times of seeming to not fit in, I think I would politely carry my quest elsewhere as opposed to continually trying to redirect the group to my preference.
that's me though....what the hell do I know.

Yes, it must be frustrating to have people repeatedly assume that you're an idiot teenager. I wonder what you could do to keep that from happening?
Kagen4o4 • Apr 1, 2006 5:34 pm
well for starters im putting $50 on mari to win this one. and lookout stepped in with exactly what needed to be said.

maybe they'll get the hint that somethings wrong by by how all their threads turn into a debate about why they are here.
xoxoxoBruce • Apr 1, 2006 5:49 pm
What is Mari going to win? She and a lot of other people are hair triggered because of the rough start the new members have had. OK, but I've seen effort on their part to adjust. Lets give them the benefit of the doubt and simmer down a little.

Mari thinks Flint read her banking thread and is mocking her. Flint says (I think), he just saw the title and thought up this thread.
Well, nobody can prove either, so again, what's she going to win?
SteveBsjb • Apr 1, 2006 5:54 pm
Flint made a clone thread. It is a humorous attempt to take someone else's thread title, and change it a little bit, but turn it into something funny. Even if it just makes you look twice. Maybe you laugh maybe you don't.

Clone threads are NEVER meant as a way to make fun of the original thread, or it's content.

So, you may not think it's funny, but you should not be offended if it happens to be a clone of your thread title.
SteveBsjb • Apr 1, 2006 5:59 pm
Oh, and to Kagen... I do think Flint and I like to debate on message boards. Something fun about hammering away back and forth striving for clarity.

Discussions are fun, jokes are fun, debates are fun, and even message board arguments can be fun. Because it's all just words on a screen. No one post can really affect you more or less than another, if you don't want it to.

@ Lookout: You got something against sports bar banter?? :eyebrow:

Hey, this could be fun (editted that from 'is fun') - why?, well I am sure there are plenty more contradictions that might look good alongside each other - maybe we should have a Cellarite thread just for that purpose - it could give meaningless drivel a modicum of value....

AG didn't suck, it was a great addicting site. Now that it's shut down there are at least 3 clone sites where AG'ers are flocking. I came here and like this place too. Lucky you!

And why call AG'ers idiots, mari? AG wasn't a message board of mindless nimrods posting nonsense and constantly bickering. It really is just like this place. A community. We know all about each other, posted about our lives there, laughed, and even cried together there (some of us). We're just regular people.

So, some new people come over to "your" site, and don't post the way you like. Why even think about it? It's a public message board. Anyone can join. And honestly, what's been so bad? I think though we've posted a lot, we've been fun, funny, communicative and occasionally interesting. A lot of people "got" the jokes, but I don't think you did. Sorry. But, it's not like we scratched all our posts on the hood of your car. It's a message board. Threads not deemed worthy don't have to be read.

I can't say I know one person on this board well enough to call them an "idiot" or an "asshole" (as seen in another thread today). Why get so upset? Chill and realize, we didn't come here shitting on your boards, we were happy to find a cool place, and jumped in. (And yes you could go cut and paste something I posted that looks like an insult to your message board, or whatever... but here I am now telling you... they were JOKES, and SARCASM, and playful. Never compiled with curses or direct insults, or outright rudeness.)

I've never held a "grudge" on a message board. And, there doesn't have to be a big lovefest here either. No reason to run so hot and cold. Make threads, comment on others you like, don't rush to judge other people. This whole thing us vs. them thing is silly. "We're here, we're dwellars, and you better get used to it."

I have nothing but respect for your evenhandedness, Bruce. I try to be the same, but something nags at me in this case. It all feels a bit Jekyll and Hyde. If there weren't always an underlying sense of aggression, I think I could follow the line you are taking. Had a 'sorry, geuinely didn't mean any offence' line followed earlier on... well, that would have been a start, but cannot see that kind of reply happening - maybe I'll be proved wrong, which would be nice...

I think YOUR threads are BS!

(see... if I don't add a note that the above is just a joke, some of you may think I'm instigating here. actually what I'm doing is a little third grade humor: "You're a jerk?" "Oh yeah? Well I think you're a jerk!" "No, you are!" "No, you!" If he can say this thread is BS, than I can say his threads are BS... and of course not even mean it. Which makes the whole thing funny... to me. Although now I've ruined it by explaining.)

It's more *emotional* age perception than chronogical. You clowns come on alike a pandemic-level bad case of high-school senioritis.

I've been here for decades, and even through many a classic flamefest never felt the need to use the ignore list.

Until now.

So, until Tony finally decides you've hit the Cellar "excessively annoying" bannage threshold:

On the one hand, I agree with Bruce because I have been observing this
forum for awhile and have hesitated to join because I have seen the abuse
dished out by long standing members that basically don’t want new members to join.
(Yes, it's obvious) On the other hand, I agree with some of the Cellar heavies that
he AG refugees have mucked up the works a bit. However, as I have been observing for
several months now, the AG virus was irritating even for me. My initial reaction was,
"NOOOO, you're messing it up!" But I think the AG refugees have made an attempt not
only to adjust, but to assert their own personalities as well. Nobody wants a forum
full of sycophants.

This is my two cents as an outsider. (Note: I didn't say lurker--I said observer.)

(MMMMM...fresh meat...)
SteveBsjb • Apr 1, 2006 9:12 pm
 Well, Hard, you're an insider now.
HardDrive • Apr 1, 2006 10:25 pm
Thanks, Steve, but, as I have observed this forum for awhile, I think you have a few things to learn about the people who take part in this forum. I've read 80% of the forums and also read maybe 30% of the archives (depending on what interests me). Looking before you leap might be advised at times. That said, I don't find the AG group to be counter to the general Cellar idea--you just need to spend some time getting to know these people before you jump in head first. I certainly know more about them than they do about me. Not a bad position to be in.
SteveBsjb • Apr 1, 2006 10:32 pm
Well, HardDrive, I don't see any need to look before I leap, or research the people here before I type. What's the worst that can happen? People will type insulting messages about me on a message board?

If you like to read everything here before you post, that's fine. But, I can't imagine one single problem with my style of jumping right into this or any message board.
HardDrive • Apr 1, 2006 10:45 pm
Steve: I'm a noob as well. I'm just saying that these people have continually tried to tell you that this is not just a message board to them. This is a 'community' to them. Like it or lump it--you won't change them. It's your job to figure out if this is your "thing" or not. I'm not an "accepted" member of this board, but because I have taken the time to read their thoughts over several months, I have an idea of what they expect. I'm not saying this is democratic--I'm saying that this is how the Cellar was designed to be and they are protecting the Cellar against garbage. The Internet is chock-full of forums wherein people cannot spell, write, etc. I think they have given you guys more than enough welcome. Stop trouncing it. Read what the people in your "new community" have to say!

i really do mean that. fit in or fuck off. it's very rude of you to barge into a place an announce that you are going to drastically change the furniture around. why would you want to join a board that resents the headlong knees bent advancing behavior that you exhibit? do you also hang around people at work that dislike you? why wouldn't you try to get along, and go with the flow? are you some type of johnny fucking rebel that thinks he's impressing the chicks? one of your drones keeps repeating that this is 'just an internet message board' and it shouldnt bother you what anyone else says. well, that's just plain old wrong.

this isn't just a message board. it's a circle of friends. for the active posters, we rely on this intimacy and shared knowledge. when some bunch of fruity ass clowns trips into the center of the circle and starts making fart noises and slobbering on everyone, we get the urge to strike you.

I won't hold your AssmunchGalaxy history against you, but fit the fuck in. act like adults. this is not a chat room.

Many of the regulars regularly donate actual cash money to the one guy that physicaly owns the servers, and pays monthly for the internet access that this board survives on......so it really is a privately owned message board. have some goddamned respect for the owner of the joint at least. have you figured out who that is yet? been to busy posting 'lol' and 'me too' to have stumbled across that information yet?

Intersting array of responses. A cross-section of humanity, internet or otherwise. When a clash of perceptions knocks at your door, how will you react? Civilly? Belligerently? Inquisitively? With detachment? With obsession? The answer says alot about a person, or nothing at all. With the limited amount of information which constitutes our collective knowledge of the situation, I would venture to state that none of us are in a position to reach any definitive conclusions whatsoever. This bit of pop philosophy could also be the standard non-statement for any other situation which one desires to make the appearance of a statement about.

Get over yourself. The "alienated youth" thing's been done before, long before you were born. Today's version is apparently but a pale imitation of a pale imitation.

Anyway, thanks for chiming in, so you can be added to my ignore list. (*plonk*)

Yes, and if you're in a public place where there isn't a room labeled "bathroom", feel free to squeeze out a turd in the concourse. The management will appreciate it as a hint that they need better signage.

BJSteve,
From my perspective, you, Flint and Dev have (mostly) shaped up into reasonable cellarfolk. The real problem is that it looks like there will be a continual flow of new AGers (like Tiddybaby) that will need to be educated on our local customs... So, it's hard not to lump alls y'all together and say STFU to all of you.
I'm hoping most of them (those who have no interest in participating in this community) will get tired of our ways and leave. Just my :2cents:

let's find out: here is a quiz designed specifically for the AGers. this is something i normally do if i think a noob has some promise. in this case, there are so many of you all at once, i think a blanket quiz that you can all take is in order. completion is optionally required.

1. Ketchup or mustard on your hotdog?

2. Righty or lefty?

3. Do you consider Fish to be meat?

4. Has your rash cleared up yet?

5. Camaro or Mustang?

6. Who invented the screw top jar?

7. What do you like on your pizza?

8. If the thunder don't get ya, what will?

9. Do you think I'm pretty?

10. Are you older than any of your Aunts or Uncles?

11. Have you ever been arrested?

12. prefer to bathe or shower?

13. Who's your daddy?

14. Do you love or hate the smell of patchouli?

15. Best rock band ever?

16. What is the sound of one Elephant clapping?

17. What's that next to your monitor? no. the other thing.

18. How old were you the last time you were in a fist fight?

19. If you meet 10 new people in one day, how many will be smarter than you?

20. Who were you in your previous life? Where did you live?

1. Ketchup or mustard on your hotdog?

Both... I like the zing of mustard and the tang of ketchup...

2. Righty or lefty?

neither... I tend to think for myself and not with someones elses values already set in place...

3. Do you consider Fish to be meat?

sure why not... would you like a slice of tomato meat to go on that sandwich also...

4. Has your rash cleared up yet?

the last case of poison ivy has... the next however has not...

5. Camaro or Mustang?

I'll take the 68, 69, of either please...

6. Who invented the screw top jar?

Had to be a woman since they're the only one that seem to be able to open them with ease...

7. What do you like on your pizza?

Tomato sauce and cheese... everything after this is a bonus...

8. If the thunder don't get ya, what will?

Thunder may have caused a few heart attacks but the Lightning itself is far more dangerous...

9. Do you think I'm pretty?

From what I've seen... No...

10. Are you older than any of your Aunts or Uncles?

No...

11. Have you ever been arrested?

Yes...

12. prefer to bathe or shower?

Shower... my clothes however prefer a bath...

13. Who's your daddy?

My mothers first husband...

14. Do you love or hate the smell of patchouli?

neither I guess... don't think it's something I'd like around me constantly though...

15. Best rock band ever?

For me... Lynyrd Skynyrd... only because I can relate to their music and lyrics more than others...

16. What is the sound of one Elephant clapping?

Applause of a single elephant...

17. What's that next to your monitor? no. the other thing.

I have a laptop with trackpad... so no mouse...

18. How old were you the last time you were in a fist fight?

Let's see... I'm 42 now... yeah 42...

19. If you meet 10 new people in one day, how many will be smarter than you?

None... that I would ever admit to...

20. Who were you in your previous life? Where did you live?

I was probably someone insignificant... cause I can't remember...

and this concludes the cellarite version of the SAT's... :p

5. Camaro or Mustang? (Mustang, Camaro is a rip off)

6. Who invented the screw top jar? (who cares)

7. What do you like on your pizza? ( don't eat pizza, i go to the salad bar)

8. If the thunder don't get ya, what will? (internet trolls)

9. Do you think I'm pretty? (lumberjacks are not pretty, if the were they would not be lumberjacks)

10. Are you older than any of your Aunts or Uncles? (no, i am from the west)

11. Have you ever been arrested? (not yet)

12. prefer to bathe or shower? (shower, who likes to sit in their own dirt?)

13. Who's your daddy? (Oakland)

14. Do you love or hate the smell of patchouli? (i prefer Boss Red)

15. Best rock band ever? (can't pick just one, but led zep is one)

16. What is the sound of one Elephant clapping? (elephants don't clap)

17. What's that next to your monitor? no. the other thing. (it is my dildo)

18. How old were you the last time you were in a fist fight? ( i am a girl, we slap)

19. If you meet 10 new people in one day, how many will be smarter than you? (10 people in one day. that is to short of time to get to know them well enough to determine. most likely....1)

20. Who were you in your previous life? Where did you live? (i was a Native American in the Dakotas)

Well, I completely understand the confusion, but what Flint meant, yet did not clearly state, was... you're not supposed to respond to clone threads, but you can, of course. Mostly you can just read, chuckle and move on. But it's never bad when any thread gets attention.

I only know this because I've seen numerous clone threads, hundreds probably, some do get more attention than the original, for whatever reason.

Usually it starts out with a post such as "good one" or "ooooh lame". :)

General opinion is that mine tend to be lame - I can't understand this as I think they're fantastic. Worrying....

From what you say it seems there's more to cloning threads than meets the eye... I think they would be more interesting with a clone the clone approach or else they could give the wrong message to the uninitiated reader, clone-cloning makes it more sort of, well, communal ( if you know what I mean, and I think you do...). Not that I'm trying to set rules or anything (don't want to start that issue off again...! )
Kagen4o4 • Apr 3, 2006 6:19 am

How much time do they waste though, really? You read a line on a screen and move on. I like them because they often make me smile.
Cyclefrance • Apr 3, 2006 6:38 am
Well, maybe it's the fact that we're not used to this sort of item, plus the underlying suspiscions about our new members caused the wrong reaction. Easy to jump to the wrong conclusions, and as soon as you do.... well, we've seen what happens next from both sides.

I can see a potential plus side to them once their purpose and harmless intent is taken on board. Think it all happened a bit too fast for us to take on board objectively. Anyway, I'm happy to go back to the beginning of the thread and give this one the heavy groan it deserved - better try harder next time Steve (sorry, that should be Flint - edited but thought I should leave my mistake).... banker/wanker is a bit old hat, after all.... I think even my great-great-great grandfather would have turned in his grave at that one!

Flint • Jan 25, 2008 4:04 pm
What's funny is that the "AG invasion" was 99% SteveBsjb and myself. The only flood of shit was the shit that we were stirring.

Aside from the two of us, there was one other guy (that I never even liked on AG) that was a total kiss-ass, trying too hard to fit in, and a few other people that only posted a few times and then lost interest. There were also a few well-behaved AGers that are still members here.

I find it funny that you still believe there was a "flood" or "invasion" of AGers.
glatt • Jan 25, 2008 4:07 pm
From our perspective, there was absolutely a flood. No question.

(where "we" are long term dwellars who were here well before the AG arrival.)
lookout123 • Jan 25, 2008 4:11 pm
fair enough. there was a not a literal flood of people coming in. But this is the cellar. it seems to be a pretty big month if one new person shows up and becomes an active, positive contributor. You and steveadfhadbfadfhaajob may have been the most active, but my perception was that there was a whole flood of crap. i don't remember the ass-kisser, but I very actively disliked that steve guy's entrance. you, i was cautiously optimistic about. in retrospect I can say that i have an instant dislike/distrust/disinterest in anyone that barges in and instantly has an opinion on every single subject and then plays the "it's only a message board" card. sure, it may only be words on a screen, but i consider the cellar a community of friends. i'm always looking for new friends, but i can be picky about who i like.

Why does everyone misinterpret my "it's only words on a screen" mantra? This is meant to HELP people realize they shouldn't get upset when someone is "mean to them" or insulting on a message board. I get the whole community thing, I really do, but I draw the line at being offended by a faceless post on a message board.

Glad people here seem to appreciate the cleverness which is a clone thread now. I hope newbies aren't being forced to "fit the fuck in". Message boards should be a melting pot. I think all my posts in this thread were quite calm, cool, and polite. I have never been rude first, but I will fight fire with fire (but only because it provides a momentary smirk - never an LOL).

The AG invasion was fun. It didn't ruin anyone's lives. It gave everyone something to talk about. I think it helped create your "Nothingland" too. And AG is still great too. Glad to see that Flint hung in long enough to fight the good fight and show that people from planet AG mean you no harm.

But, it is really only words on a screen you know.

I may start posting here on a regular basis again.

Was this the thread Marichiko talked herself into a permanent ban with? Gawd, she was crankish.
