Best movie out right now... name it

SteveBsjb • Mar 30, 2006 4:05 pm
I think it's "V for Vendetta" - not the best movie ever, but the acting is solid, the setting believable, special effects flawless, and story strong (though weakens a bit by the end, in my opinion). I think it's probably the best movie out right now. Catch it in IMAX format if you can. I did, and really enjoyed it.

This is the only current film that is high on my list of things to see. Didn't know it was in IMAX format. We've seen a couple of the recent IMAX releases (Harry Potter and Willy Wonka), and it is definitely an enhancement to "gee whiz" special effects/big scenery type films.

Right, I saw Harry in IMAX too, opening day. Thought it was great. Also I saw the IMAX movie about the Mars rover missions. Don't recall what it was called right now. That one was truly awesome.

I'll vote for V as well. I was worried going in, since the comic is so good, but it turned out pretty good.
Clodfobble • Mar 30, 2006 10:34 pm
I was worried going in because it was being touted heavily in the ads as being by the Wachowski brothers. (I thought the Matrix was a retarded masturbatory exercise in Philosophy 101 and special effects for their own sake.) But I really enjoyed it, although it was a teeeeensy bit preachy at a few points. Very enjoyable.

The first Matrix was great, I thought. The last two su-uh-uh-ucked!
Clodfobble • Mar 30, 2006 11:13 pm
That's because they weren't stolen from a reasonably talented writer like the first one was.

As was V. So it al worked out.

As long as they don't try to make VI and VII.

Believe it or not, Slither looks good... if you like comedic horror movies.
chainsaw • Mar 31, 2006 3:50 pm
Yes. I'm going to see Slither tonight. It looks icky and fun.

Anyone going to see Sharon Stone's 50 year old beave this weekend? :repuke:

Thanks for noticing. :) Yeah, it’s been a rough year. 3 surgeries and 74 days in the hospital (12 of which were in CCU) since last June. A staph infection. A temporary ileostomy bag. :vomitblu: Tons o’ FUN! But I’m back to almost normal even though I'm left with some nasty scars. Seeing a new doctor (the ONLY one that has looked me in the eye and said “I can fix you”). So yeah. It’s good to be back. :biggrinba

There's no need to shout. Besides, she hasn't been on since yesterday.

Ahem.

Slither was awesome! It was funny and gross and stupid and icky and I LOVED IT! Ok, LOVED is a little strong, but it was worth seeing. Lots of silly one liners - "She packs a boxed lunch". The scariest part was the little zombie girls - "We're itchy!” Nothing scarier than little kids in horror movies.

I can't WAIT for Silent Hill! :mg: It's gonna scare the crap outta me.

Cool! Sounds like a movie that was made for me. Plus, I loved that girl from 40 Year Old Virgin... So, I want to see it. I'm trying to convince a couple of friends to go tonight.

Silent Hill - YES!

My pick for last weekend was "Thank you for Smoking". What a great movie. And very funny. Go see it.
Happy Monkey • Apr 11, 2006 1:27 pm
Yes. Very funny. And sad because it's true.

But mostly funny. Rob Lowe was hilarious.
chainsaw • Apr 11, 2006 2:14 pm
I loved the M.O.B. meetings.

Thank You For Smoking was great. I can see why it would upset smokers.

I saw two movies over the weekend...

Silent Hill – I was all ready to have the poop scared outta me with Mr. chainsaw on one side of me and another male friend on the other – to keep me safe, of course. But, I was a bit disappointed. It wasn't nearly as scary as playing the game in the dark with a bunch of squealing girls. Some spooky parts, but it could have been much better. Those little black baby things that walk all creepily :worried: They should have had more of them in the movie. And the acting was pretty bad, but it’s a horror flick. I wasn’t expecting Oscar performances.

American Dreamz – Pretty darn funny and surprisingly “dark” humor. Mandy Moore continues to surprise me. Did you see her in “Saved”? I always saw her as a typical teeny bopper pop star, but she’s damn funny… or she chooses damn funny roles. Willem Dafoe was very funny. I don’t want to give anything away, so I’ll keep the details to myself.

The Sentinel was enjoyable. Fairly good acting, good action. The only real issue that I had with it was that there's a mystery element to it for which you aren't given enough clues.

I must say summer 2006 was not a good time for the movies. My two favorites were POC dead mans chest (Johnny Depp was astounding in this movie.) And an Incovient Truth (I knew quite a bit about Global Warming before i saw this, but i must say movie absolutly shocked me. Anyone interested in learning more should really see this.)
glatt • Aug 24, 2006 8:34 pm
I didn't make it out to the movies this summer, but would be interested in seeing each of those.

Welcome to the Cellar.
