What do you mean?
Well my full name is Kieran Stone. and i thought it might be interesting if people knew or wanted to find the origin of their name or the meaning of it.
for instance, Kieran means "black" or "dark, swarthy, black," or ""little black-haired one."
and my family Stone coat of arms (as far as the internet tells me) is:

or similarly

or

so what do you mean? you can say the meaning without expressing your name if you dont want people to know
just read that the motto at the bottom of the third one reads "Nothing of Humanity is foreign to me"
i like that :)
Nice. Scottish roots by any chance? Just a guess and hopefully no offense.
not totally sure. my mums side goes back at least to (literally) a convict coming to australia.
Mine would be "Giver of Life" or "Life" "Black."
There is a motto that reads "I follow uprightly."
holy crap!
similar to my mums side.
motto means "suffer"
Reminded me - our school chaplain was called the Reverend Stone - he always started the RK lesson by writing his name on the blackboard: St.One.
Not saying he had a big ego or anything.....
ya know, this would be a good place for a
link to some info about names and
crestsSo far, I've discovered three different Chambers family crests. I've decided that the only goal of these online crest/coat of arms sources is to sell you stuff with your crest on it, accuracy be damned.
The one on the left is my Mothers. In the center is my Fathers but I think it's bullshit, just something the company put together. The reason I think that, is because my Fathers family were septs of the Clan MacGregor. Septs are not named MacGregor, but lived on MacGregor lands and were accepted by the Chief of the Clan as loyal. Their crest is on the right and their motto is "Our Blood is Royal".:right:
I have to agree with els on the "sell you as much stuff as possible with "your" crest on it ...
The site he linked to had a different crest for me, and I kind of remember getting a personalized catalog for the "wolf" family (and a personalized credit card offer) with a different version ... Black shield with a gold chevron with three green balls on it or something similar.

Oh, a family of pawnbrokers.
My family crest features a bottle of scotch and a tumor.

HAHAHAHA
I'm a nobby butterfly. My Crest is multi-care extra whitening.
make of it what you will.....
Damn, I didn't even know butterflies used Crest.:smack:
I don't trust LJ's link. It say's that one of the derivate elements of my name is wolf. And I don't really want to go there.
My first name means 'lady' and my surname is Irish. It just means "son of ......."
The family motto is "Mullach Abu", which means Victory to the Clan. I like it.
My name in its simplest form means "ruler of the people"...heh...
I'm too much of a bitzer to have *a* coat of arms, but my name originates from Greece and means "Helper and Defender of Mankind".
I did do my family tree a few years back and can chart back to a Horse Thief & Stowaway for my Australian roots, but also managed to go way way back to my English roots as well.
Our name means "son of the scholar". We've traced our ancestry to either:
a) Scottish sheep thieves who ran away to Ireland, or
b) Irish sheep thieves who ran away to Scotland.
Our family crest should be a legless donkey, as in "...could talk the hind leg off a donkey..."
My name is a derivative of a derivative of a name that comes from the Germanic meaning "spear rule."
Make your own jokes.
My name is Flint. A stone which fractures at sharp angles, producing arrow-heads (my true namesake). Flint is a strong, sharp, and useful stone. Flint produces the spark to ignite a flame, to combust an incendiary, to facilitate the light to illuminate your path. My tartan is Welsh National. My eyes shoot daggers, my mind splits hairs, and my hands speak drum. I walk straight down the path of the unknown, tempting fate with every step I take. I fear not, because I know that I am Flint.

You also run out at the most inopportune times and force me to throw away a perfectly good, half full lighter.

and he makes cool little flint bombs. have you ever made them with the flint and spring of the lighter?
if you have, doesnt matter ill say it for the people that havent
take apart the lighter making sure the flint and spring dont go flying away. then, get the flint and wrap the end of the spring around it. just enough to hold it without it falling. then get a different lighter (as your one is now dead) and heat the flint until it glows orange all over. then, throw it on the ground, make sure its a hard surface. it doesnt need too much force. then kick around any little bits still glowing.
its like fireworks on the ground

snort:lol:
Sorry to burst your bubble Flint, but you know how you unconsciously picture what someone looks like in your mind's eye when you have never seen them? Well, I love watching documentaries about animals. You share your name with a baby chimp featured in one such documentary. But that's OK, cuz' I am partial to redheads...:D
You can picture me a little rodent in a lab coat, with a pipette in one paw, and a Kit Kat in the other. There are a few pics of me around here though if you're so inclined to look.
EDIT: here's a link:

I went to hear Jane Goodall speak, and got her autograph about 4 or 5 years ago. Very neat woman.
I don't like knowing what people on a message board look like. To me, that defeats the whole purpose of the internet, which is to mitigate superficial qualities among people of various sectors of society, so that a widening perspective can be experienced by all. The physical qualities of people are irrelevant to me in this format, and distracting. I prefer what you look like in my head. If you think I'm a monkey, keep thinking that. I am a monkey.

yes, but are you a
cyclops monkey?
Flint is to Michigan as Wolverhampton is to England.

ive noticed since we asked you guys to think about your posts more. you seem to have gone out and bought a thesaurus. you dont need to use buzz words and phrases like "mitigate" and "various sectors of society" to present a coherent and logical argument that pertains to the topic in question. (see, i just did it then)
i dunno about you flint...theres something about you that just makes me want to try and shoot you down with everything you say. maybe i think that you can do the same to me and i can get a good laugh. as i hope you get from me
Flint are you saying my smashing good looks are superficial? Well I'm fucked now, 'cause that's all I have going for me.
@Kagen4o4: I'm glad you find something in some way interesting about my posts, and I'm glad you are interested in having a good laugh. But I have to say that I haven't changed anything about myself based on anything anybody has said. I have always used big words to compose substantive posts, and I always will. In fact, other than a few threads or posts where I was obvioulsy joking around, I don't know what there ever was about my posts that anyone thought needed to be commented on, much less changed. I was, still am, and will continue to be myself.

Jesus, what an insult
I'm not sure te people of Woverhampton will be pleased about this....
