Great set of shots, apparently from photographer Ulrich Brodde, were found at this LiveJournal site via the double-secret Cellar LiveJournal Image Retrieval System.

Awesome shots!

I'm guessing antelope, but I'm not sure what kind. The big hawg looks toothless, so maybe they have anticipated this clash of the titans/morons. No word on how it all turned out so I decided not to wait for Friday. Happy Wednesday.

I like how the antelope's expression never changes.

That might be a sable.

They can kill lions, I hear.

You don't think about hippos being aggressive. Rhinos, yes, they have that horn, but hippos? They're ugly cute, they have a funny-sounding name, and they wear tutus and dance in Disney Cartoons.

Which one is the Christian?

The antelope looks like it's reading the back of a cereal box. Completely placid.

Here's the straight dope on that that.... pretty funny.
Carbonated_Brains • Feb 8, 2006 2:31 pm
The danger of a hippo is that its teeth are razor sharp on the sides, and it's generally accepted that more people die of hippos in Africa than any other mammal.

Also, the son of a bitch can weigh three metric tonnes.

One minute too slow =(
Elspode • Feb 8, 2006 2:57 pm
The last shot looks like the horned creature is about to ram one of the horns through the hippo's mouth and out the left nostril. Ouch.
Carbonated_Brains • Feb 8, 2006 3:07 pm
Based on the scars all over the hippo's side, I'd say this is a common event.

I h8 passive-agressive antelopes.

Except for that 3rd picture - hmm, where have I seen that expression before?

Nose piercing, the easy way. :right:

There are lots of great/interesting shots at this site. I wish I could read whatever language it is in.

That antelope thing is SO damn beautiful. and that hippo looks so cute in the first shot.
Awwwwwwwwwww.
It looks like they are in a zoo.. so i am sure the keepers wouldnt let anything too drastic happen.

A classic example of horny meets fat.

The bittersweet outcome of this combo will be basically forgotten by daybreak.
lumberjim • Feb 8, 2006 5:58 pm
i bet they're old pals. this is probably a common event.
xoxoxoBruce • Feb 8, 2006 6:17 pm
I'm with you, LJ.
I think they are playing. :thumb:
plaguemask • Feb 8, 2006 6:34 pm
The antelope's a bull nyala. I understand the confusion, though. It does look quite a lot like a greater kudu.

:)

I'm sure they are playing, the ducks in the last photo don't look too disturbed at all, play time for all. Nice photo's :)

Welcome to the Cellar, plaguemask. :D
I'm always amazed at the depth of information the lurkers burst on the scene with. Collectively, we're pretty smart.
I gotta ask, though.....how did you know that?
footfootfoot • Feb 9, 2006 9:12 am
never eat anything bigger than your head

I'm with LJ too. I think the Hippo is just a youngster and they're playing. If a full-grown Hippo with a full complement of teeth got his jaws on the antelope's neck it would be over for the antelope. Hippos are so nasty that in the wild full-grown Crocodiles avoid them.

You slayed me Cap'n.

The site is in Russian. If there is anything in specific you would like to know, I can translate for you.

Thanks, vocalperk. Not at the moment but stick around, we run into Russian sites fairly often. :thumb:
