War is not healthy for children and other living things

Click here for some very cool military images.

Though some are fakes, they're still cool.

very true NBN

I've seen many of those shots before too. But what they cry out for is CAPTIONS!

I see the photo of the week all the time in the Navy times, and they have a caption contest. Let's see if the Cellar Dwellars can do the same. I'll think on it and post my captions (numbered) later on.

The B1-B prototype over water is fake, or rather it's a painting. I've seen it before. I love the aircraft carrier! That's is most definitely real. The Enterprise is capable of 50 knots, but it may throw a drive shaft doing it.

no way

they will NOT throw a shaft doing a max power run.

I've witnessed one and it ran fine. ALL ships heel over like that when they turn. It's a law of physics. Mine did, too!

That's a high-speed turn that was planned and prepared for in advance. Witness the lack of aircraft on deck. They're either airborne or below decks. Also, notice Tillie (the big yellow cranelike vehicle) is stowed for sea, not parked by the island (the part above the flight deck) where it sits during flight ops.

I knew the bomber was a painting, but the F14 is real (they do that maneuver now and then, it's all in the perspective) and so is the FA/18 Hornet taking off (good stop-action photo that). I'm an ex-Navy man, so I can vouch for many of these. Except the C141 apparently landing on top of the SeaBees. Dunno about that one.

Below decks? How many aircraft can a carrier carry?

Yeah, it's not the Enterprise. The control tower [bridge thingy - damnit] is wrong.

It looks to me more like that transport is taking off, not landing.

I watched it a couple of times for the coolness factor, and somewhere along the line it clicked in my head that I was watching a commercial for the product.
