I've hiked to that tree; myself and four or five friends went there last fall. I wouldn't call it "northern" California though - the nearest city is Porterville. It's definitely Central California; and around here we tend to think of ourselves as more Southern California than Northern.
Although really, we don't have much in common with either. We're really more Western, Western Nevada if anything. FWIW, I met the Rouch family on that trip; they were having a family gathering that weekend. Got to chat with them some. Nice people. |

From 3,000 miles away anything above San Jose would be northern and vise versa. But most people living there, like people everywhere, would divide by culture rather than geography. Forgive my telescopic view, we're always happy to be corrected by someone more familiar, so thanks for helping out.
