Kayaking

We paddled the Chemung River from Corning to Elmira yesterday. The Palisades are the "must see" on this trip. The conditions were a nice mix on sun and clouds and we had just enough water, 3" lower and it would have been dragging kayaks not paddling them. We had gliders overhead for some of the journey, this area has some of the best gliding in the country. A couple Pete shots-

Palisades make great updrafts.
My future grandson-in-law gave my granddaughter a surprise kayak session on the Mendo coast today.
She posted "I kayak!"

Nothing worse than dragging bottom in a kayak. You can split your paddle and ski pole,, but that is just as hard. 2 or 3 days after a good rain is the best time.

Also, stop being so awesome. You're making us all look bad.

Pete's a planner so as soon as I suggested this route I think she she checked river gauges against suggested levels in her paddling books. I freaking hate getting hung up, but I'd rather be stuck in a river than do a zoom meeting.

Sea Kayaking on the Mendocino Coast sounds awesome. Lil' G and I Sea Kayaked in New Zealand heavy surf, nerve wracking, and totally wonderful.
