The New Library

This could have gone in the "making me happy" thread also.

I found out recently that the suburban Chicago library system now allows you to borrow Kindle books. The selection isn't great yet, but I've gotten some worthwhile reading. I read #5 in the Dresden series last week, and I just started the first Game of Thrones book last

Free stuff. I love it.

Not free.

Your tax dollars paid for the library, the technology to distribute the book to you, indeed for the license to "loan" the "book" twenty-six times before they have to pay for another license.

Not free. Not an entitlement. You paid for it.

What can I think of that is "free"... not a lot.

Our local library also has such a lending option, and the Kindles are in demand.

It's a deal for anyone that might not afford a Kindle
It's a deal for anyone that might want to buy a Kindle
It's a deal for anyone that might want short term use of a Kindle

It's a great deal for anyone that might want to read a book... on a Kindle

what if I don't pay taxes, is it free then?

My local library started Kindle lending last month. I've gotten one book, and am now NEXT IN LINE for A Dance with Dragons.

Little hint ... the book only leaves your device if the wifi/3G is turned on at or after the return date.

True. But I have to pay the tax anyway. So...
