Making Strides

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This Sunday I will be walking in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. This is my second year doing it. Cancer has touched all of our lives in one way or another, so it feels good that I can help out in some small way. I'll be walking with quite a few family members and friends again with our coffees in hand. So many people came out last year and I'm expecting a big crowd again this year. The weather is supposed to be beautiful too. I'm looking forward to doing this again very much.

Fuck Cancer.

My SIL was diagnosed with breast cancer this summer. She was lucky though because it was detected really early...at a stage 0, I think. She has already gone through the biopsy and lumpectomy and now is doing the radiation. Her surgeon told her that there is 0% chance of fatality.

Her mammography saved her.

[slight hijack] OK so I'm supposed to wear pink to the swim meet on Thursday b/c it's a BC pink-out. Those of you who have been here a while (a) know what i went through with my friend who got a stage 4ish diagnosis and (b) know I hate pink. and maybe (c) know I only wear black. I do the team spirit things -I will even wear colored team shirts for the duration of the game. Sometimes. But I don't wanna wear pink. And I'd have to buy something -I'd rather donate the $$. And I hate the concept "if you don't wear pink, you're pro breast-cancer" which seems to be implied. Should I really oughta wear pink, or is it ok to wear black and claim I'm in mourning for my friend's boob when challenged?

Why don't you just wear a breast cancer pin or something small like that? I don't think you should feel you have to wear pink.

If someone brings it up, just tell them you're avant-garde and black IS the new pink for women!

Pink ribbons are too ambiguous. I like explicit instructions.

monster - you could wear my cock-shaped (snort!) "Courage" pin that limey sent me. Though I treasure it, I know you would send it back.
