Jan 22nd, 2016:What's Up, Honey

What's up, is honey. The latest buzz, is bees. Actually it's been the buzz since 1997 when Gerardo Gonzalez Perez,
opened The Museum of Bees, in Poyales del Hoyo, Spain.
He did it because most people don't know crap about bees or honey.

Quote:
The Museum of Bees, in Poyales del Hoyo, Spain, provides a unique opportunity for visitors to safely watch these hardworking insects in action. The museum has six gigantic hives hanging from the ceiling and enclosed in glass, allowing visitors to get close to the bees without the risk of getting stung.

Gerardo Gonzalez Perez, the director of the museum and a beekeeper himself, set up the first hives over 34 years ago while still a student. Over the years, beekeeping has become his passion and main activity. He has given talks and lectures in schools and colleges throughout the Spanish geography and provided beekeeping courses for amateurs. In 1997, after 20 years of work and research, he created the Bee Museum in order to pass on his knowledge and try to improve the world's perception of bees in society. Since its opening, thousands of people have passed through this facility, where they have had the opportunity to learn about the life of bees as pollinators, how they work, the basics of beekeeping, etc.
I'd say he's doing a great service to the people who visit. They may feel they're just being entertained but
they are being edumacated too. What's good for the bees, is good for the nation.

Besides, it's a sweet gig.

'round here the bees put their hives in nice, neat white boxes. Those hangin' things are gross.

Nice. Somewhere, in my junk I have an old Natgo mag with a story about bees. If I can find
it I'll send to Bruce. Maybe he can do something with it.

Don't bother Buster, I've got them from 1948 up in the attic. That's another thing I have to get rid of that nobody wants.

Isn't this storm the end of civilization? Those mags and your old Foxfire books might suddenly seem interesting again.

What is this "Civilization" you speak of? It rings a bell from a long long time ago and far far away.

I didn't realise bees lived that long.
