May 31, 2009: Lazarus' Piano

Tom Richmond of The Mad Blog, tells about having dinner at the "home of cartooning legend Mell Lazarus (Momma and Miss Peach)".
Quote:
Mell is an amazing guy, who not only created the two long running strips listed above, but authored two successful novels,
writes television scripts and plays, and is a member of Mensa. At 81 he can still out-party me.
But the center of attention was Mell's piano.

Quote:
Many years ago Mell and Sally decided to buy a baby grand piano, and got a good deal on a small white one that needed refinishing.
Instead of refinishing it, they invited cartoonists to draw on it. The result is an incredible piece of art with hundreds of cartoonist’s
doodles and signatures on it in their living room.

This piano is a national treasure for those of us that love cartoons.
Hopefully it will be in a museum or someplace people can see it in person.
Well done, Mr Lazarus, very well done indeed.

Homer Simpson and Fred Flintstone together... now that would make a good cartoon.

"Excuse me, Sir. May I have your autograph?"
" Sure. No problem."
"OK guys! Bring in the piano."

The picture of Brandi was x-rated and they didn't include it.

That is awesome, but I'm glad that damn Billy from Family Circus didn't traipse all over the place like he usually does, and that there were no ghosts of grandparents past hanging around.

He's traipsing over the keys on the keyboard.

Maybe this piano was the spark that generated the idea.

Well, I saw that he kinda bounced around a bit over the keys, but he wasn't all schizo runnin' around like a crazy person (in and out of the dog house, up and down a tree, presumably taking a piss in the bushes...)

In the first picture, it looks like Mickey Mouse's head exploded. And just what is Hagar doing with the walrus?
