Special towns and cities
A small town east of Eugene OR doesn't quite fit the state's traditional image.

I've come up with images from a fair (what we would call a festival).
Not knowing what the state's traditional image is, I'm at a bit of a loss. I also haven't found the image of the multi-storey caravans. Let me know if I'm looking at the wrong thing! Google Image "Fair Veneta Oregon"

I thought I'd seen it all. I've been to bagby. I've been to brithenbush, the Oregon vortex, caves, crater lake, high desert museum, silver falls, Columbia gorge, sea-lion caves,lighthouse,north-fork camping, hikes above the ocean, rose festival, blues festival, and much much more, but never, ever have I heard of the Vaneta fair.

Sky, From Wikipedia:
Veneta has been the site of the annual Oregon Country Fair, originally called the Renaissance Faire, since 1970.[4] On August 27, 1972, the Grateful Dead played a concert—the first "Field Trip"—at the Oregon Country Fair site. The concert, a benefit for Springfield Creamery, has become legendary to Deadheads and is documented in the film Sunshine Daydream. The city's name is used on Veneta, Oregon, a 2004 release by New Riders of the Purple Sage, which is a live recording of the group's opening performance at the 1972 Field Trip IIRC, the Rainbow Family was initially planning a gathering there some years back, but was thwarted by the Oregon Health Dept. I think they ended up in one of the other National Forest areas. |

I went to the Canterbury renaissance faire. It looks liked this.

I love a good well done renaissance fair. There use to be one outside of Atlanta every year that was really big and went on for quite a few weeks. I will have to keep my eye out for it's return.

Some serious hippy action, stuck in the 60's. But the Fair looks like a lot of fun.
For the quirky fair I prefer Burning Man. It is more along my lines of a good party.
