Is your smartphone spying on you?

found this article in the chronicle this morning. pretty interesting stuff here. here is a link to the Article

Last week, Android app developer Trevor Eckhart warned that software from a company called Carrier IQ was transmitting all kinds of data back to the company – even information which is entered into secure websites.

pretty interesting stuff.

I'm getting worried about this stuff. I don't have a smart phone nor do I want one.
The choices for "phones" are getting VERY limited. The additional $30 per month are ridiculous. $360 per year plus taxes ?!?!?!?!?

But isn't the GPS component working even when the phone is not being used.
If so, then it's not just a matter of which web sites, but everything the phone (not you) experiences.

Dumb Question ...

Is what I do on my phone, call/text, related to this or is it just smart phones and your web surfing etc.?
Forget the service provider for the moment.

I believe it is just smart phones, but there may be some form of it on normal cell phones as well since they claim this is intended for network usage management and maintenance. Personally, I'm unnerved at the fact that this service can track all of my login information, regardless of secure or encrypted connections because it is physically on the phone itself. Case in point, mobile banking applications from which I can access accounts. Not good. And as benevolent as they may claim they are being with this information, I am truly disinclined to trust them based on the fact that this has been going on for years and is just now coming to light. And not through their own good will/transparency to the consumer, but by more or less being exposed by consumers with technical know-how to find it in the first place.

Everytime I get undressed, my smartphone whistles at me. It is called a Smart phone. It knows a good thing when it sees it.

I thought it was just me.

Wait, my phone makes retching noises. Is that normal?

Aunt Pittypat in "Gone With The Wind" had the same problem with hers. Turns out she was suffering from the vapors.

Yet another reason to boycott "smart" phones.

Well...that, and money.

That's the same reason I boycott yachts, private jets, in-home swimming pools, fine wines, not-fine wines, and vacations of any kind. Down with things that cost me money! I refuse to buy them!
