11/20: Bush and the turkey

Thanks to dave for sending this along - it was also the #1 image in Yahoo's most popular.

I saw in live on CNN, too. Bush "pardoned" the national Thanksgiving turkey, named "Liberty", in a ceremony on the White House lawn. Unfortunately nobody told the Pres that turkeys don't go for being petted on the head:

And the turkey reacted by kinda sorta pecking at him, but the freeze-frame is not exactly honorable.

Personally, I had thought that Bush would eat the goddamn turkey like the rest of us, doing away with this stupid ceremony. And frankly the turkey wasn't too generous after its pardon, proving that it should be et. (Aren't presidential pardons supposed to cost like a half-million dollars?)

I've long thought this to be #1`in our stupid ceremonial things the President does. If elected I promise to slaughter the turkey with my own hands right there in white shirt sleeves with the press corp watching. I find it passing strange that someone who'd never stay the hand of the executioner when it comes to human beings would spare the life of an overbred bird that'll be dead from heart failure inside of a month. Feed the thing to someone.

What I never understood about this is, how can the turkey be pardoned? Did it commit a crime in the first place?

Questiongly,

Sorry Mike we've got to assume guilt here, otherwise he'd never have been incarcerated.

Technique: I'd go bloody just to ruin a few suits in the press corp. I've never seen the over the head technique used on turkeys, probably because they have strong necks. When my brother worked in Colombia he sent me an e-mail descibing the purchase of a chicken on the street, apparently they favor the over the head technique.

What I'd like to see is a President who takes after Sheen on "The West Wing" and drafts the turkeys instead of pardoning them.

Note to Self: Form the Turkey Corps upon gaining power.

Plottingly,

~Mike
