Thanksgiving Madness?

Okay thought it might be interesting and entertaining to share Thanksgiving stories. You know, the time you spent with family that was so bad, you'd rather be in a dentist chair having a root canal type of thing or you are considering leaving the country for the holidays.

I'll go first........ A few years ago my gay sister brought her umpteeth "This is the love of my life" to dinner and because I wasnt exactly throwing myself at her friend's feet and smothering her with kindness, my sister decides my behavior deserves punishment, so she clocks me! About 30 minutes later, I am sitting outside with my husband and my sister in law, having a nice conversation and all of the sudden she reaches out and slaps me across my face! She claimed she had no idea why she did it and apologized profusley. My husband got between the two of us even before I could react and introduce her to the carpet, lucky for her! Anyway, he couldnt figure out what provoked her other than one two many bourbon and cokes (as usual)

Skip to about 4 years later......... I decided to spend Thanksgiving with the only other "normal" person in my extened family. We had a lovely time, all the food was great and no problems or "incidents" at her house BUT of course the other side of the family just couldnt behave themselves. After they had dinner at mom's they drove over to another family members house for coffee and dessert. Turns out the SIL who slapped me, ended up getting so drunk that she slept with my sister's huband, my brother ended up sleeping with my BIL's sister while the kids (cousins) were in the house. I swear it was like an episode of Jerry Springer.......I used to wonder WHERE they get "those people" for that show. Trailer parks? Nah, they can find them in affluent neighborhoods too- just ask my extended family!

LMAO....... On another note If we end up on three fronts in this terrorist quagmire- we might need to resurrect Guthrie's suggestion. Oh, but that's another thread..........

Families like yours are what make my Thanksgivings special.

As I have explained in previous years, I usually work on Thanksgiving so as to avoid the necessity of preparing the bird and trimmings.

The early part of the evening shift usually goes well, despite Thanksgiving being the time when families that don't really like each other feel compelled to come together in a not always successful simulation of joy and comradery.

See, early on, people have stuff to do, and football to watch. They have things with which to occupy themselves.

After the bird hits the table, though, the truce is ended.

Barely supressed rage, alcohol, and electric carving knives don't really mix well.

But at least I'll be making time-and-a-half.
