Never thought I'd say this but...

I don't like working for MAW anymore. They hired a new director in April and I knew it would be trouble when he managed to visit one-on-one with everyone in all the other departments under his "leadership" within 2-3 weeks but he never even introduced himself to my dept., (not ever the manager) until 2 months later.
But recently, 2 people from another area had decided to move on and gave in their 2-weeks notice. Both had been here for several years. He laid both of them off within a day. One of them was on a business trip in Nebraska at the time, visiting our chapter there. He had her expense account cancelled. That meant, if she wanted to eat before she had to fly back home, it was at her own expense.

Then he called a last-minute meeting to discuss the recent staff "changes" and to tell us we will all have to share the burden of the extra work and that we are "all on the same team" and need to work together.

We all DO work together but now all we talk about is the negative feelings we have.

Oh well. I started working part-time from home running several web sites for a friend of mine. She pays a lot more than MAW and the job will be turning full time later this year. I'm planning on moving back to California after this year too.

It's such a shame. I still love what MAW does but now, not how it runs this office anymore.

Everyone has to get their jollies somewhere.
Management gets theirs by making peremptory decisions,
and some become orgasmic when ordering personnel terminations.

Calling security to escort an employee off the premises is an out-of-body experience,
but such a tactic has become SOP among management peers.
Although, the visual effect still sends messages of fear throughout the remaining peasants.

It sounds as though this new director is seeking a new high,
plus it's good for a few laughs at the next management meeting.

Ah, Dana is using rhyming slang, no?

Sacking someone and cancelling their expense account while they are on a trip is just being a "#$%. I reckon you're right to want away from that guy.

Can you transfer to some other area's office, or some other similar charity in your area?

Luckily the other job will be enough once it becomes full time.
And I want to move back to CA anyway. The only reason I've stayed in AZ this long was because I liked my job at MAW.

Thanks all for the support and suggestions. :-)

Here's asuggestion: for cancelling that gal's expense account he should get a top decker at least. And a kick in the taco.

What a dick.

Oh and WTF is a charity focused on doing nice things for sick children doing hiring/appointing a #$%&ing corporate sociopath in the first place??? Is here there to maximise profit? Compete with foreign charities for access to sick kids? Launch the most aggressive fundraising drive ever?

Bummer, Shel... even more so for the kids after this asshole creates a dysfunctional office. Glad you're got options though.

Zen's got it right. A corporate sociopath. I'm so sorry this dickweed has sprung up amongst you all and caused such havoc. Cancelling the expense account before she even got home was THE CLUE that you don't want to deal with this asshat.

Why do these nutjobs rise to management? B/c they have no compunction about stepping on the bodies of those below them. Sick sick sick.

That sucks, Shel (and not in the good way). If you've made the decision that you're ok leaving, maybe give them a last chance. Let his boss know how poorly he's performed. Maybe his boss will do the right thing, and you can choose to stay - or not - but it may help those who you are leaving behind, if you care about them.

I almost wish there was someway to report him to someone but there isn't much to do. From what I have been told, he was hired without going through the usual channels, ie. the board of directors.
To me, that means there was a specific purpose for his hiring that they aren't meant to know.
