March 9, 2013 - Mother Nature At It Again

TODAY'S HEADLINES:

Storm claims 3 homes

Powerful blast leaves destructive path on Plum Island

41 Annapolis: no longer a valid address

This is a "before" pic from 2006:

Living on the Coast, as I do (the OTHER coast), we quickly learn to respect Mother Nature and King Neptune. I've watched many a "seaside" property become a "sea bottom" property . . .

Now, after being sick for three weeks, I hope to have a spell of wellness. The doc says I need about a month to recuperate.

CM: Hope you get better even faster.

I have trouble seeing the house being washed away in the lower (before) photo. I can't match up the roof, window or deck structures.

I have always been jealous of water-front home owners, even while resenting their "no trespassing" signs

Jim - I couldn't see it at first, either. But if you look closely you'll see that the building being washed away is the grey one that has been spun around. Easiest to understand when you find the peak of the small side roof in each pic.

CM - hoping you heal smoothly as possible.

I think it's a bit unfair to blame all this on mother nature.

How about "obvious inevitable consequences of foolish humans building houses on sea-side sand dunes, having listened to the blithe assurance of the real estate developer who paid kickbacks to the council". And that's before we even mention climate change.

Well, I suppose that is a bit long.

How about 'natural consequences for thoughtless people who expect the rest of us bail out (directly or indirectly) their decision to build beach houses on sand dunes'. Guess that's a little long, too.

Of course we WILL be forced to bail them out.

Pardon me for saying so, but those houses look pretty ugly to me. Maybe mother nature thought the landscape needed cleansing.

Most modern beach houses look like hell here.

Well after all, they're only temporary shelters.
