"The four-minute video reclaims the Dems as the party of the working class. It sets a positive vision. It rejects inequality, but supports business. It rejects identity politics in an interesting way. It includes the idea of family and the future. It encourages a positive American pride. It embraces aspirations. It includes the military and cops."

Sounds good, in an 'early-Michael-Moore-before-he went-full-commie' kinda way.

Too bad it's horseshit.

"And yet that is exactly how Congress was in the early 1960s. Democrat and Republican Congressman would even share Christmas parties and summer outings with one another and their families."

Yeah, the 'public face' of things was heart-warmin'.

"What changed? Go out in the back country. Listen to hate constantly dribbled out hour after hour in talk show radio stations."

Now, hold on...Rush wasn't on the air in the 60s or 70s...talk radio, as we know it, didn't exist...whatever changed it wasn't cuz of 'dribbly radio hate'.

Mebbe what changed is the facade fell away.

"The problem with democrats is they claim to be left but after they get elected they move to center. Then when striking a compromise with the right (back when that was possible) the end result always ends up right of center."

So the ACA is a 'right of center' piece of work?

"Historically disadvantaged populations don't take the help for granted. They conduct drives to register those eligible to vote and get them to the polls. The working class doesn't match that as a group."

That's not what I see.

I see a significant segment of the population well-domesticated and trained. There's no individual or collective initiative (cuz if there were most of them wouldn't be on the dole). They vote only to keep the scraps comin' in, not cuz any of them have an interest in 'America'.

They've been encouraged to breed and sit ('cept when it's time to vote, then it's all 'get thyself to the polls!').

And: no, that ain't ain't racist...whole whack of whites are domesticated and trained too.

Yes. It's RomneyCare, which was made up of the Republican's counteroffers from when the Clintons were trying to make a healthcare plan.

In other words: it was a 'collaborator's' plan.

There's a reason Mitt didn't win.

Indeed. He was bland and boring, and had an excellent opponent.

Not sure what that has to do with whether the ACA was "right of center" or not. It largely paralleled a Republican bill cosponsored by Orrin Hatch and Charles Grassley, among others, as a counter to the Clinton's plan.

Bruce wrote, "The problem with democrats is they claim to be left but after they get elected they move to center. Then when striking a compromise with the right (back when that was possible) the end result always ends up right of center."

The ACA, one of the most pernicious pieces of legislation ever passed, is not right of center, no matter who crafted or advocated for it.

When you think of the spectrum of Left, Center, and Right, where would you say that you fit, Henry?

It certainly is, that's what was wrong with it, things inserted to placate the insurance and medical communities to get it passed hoping those things could be fixed in subsequent legislation. Left of center wouldn't have had those flaws. Further left of center would be a rational single payer system.

But my statement was directed at more than the ACA, everything that's been passed for awhile.

c'mon, guy, I've been in-forum for how long now, with wild rants and mean-spiritedness?

I'm some kind of vile individualist anarchist (or miniarchist, or sociopath, or...).

"It certainly is"

It certainly is not, not by the professed standards of the Right.

No, the ACA, even with its apparent concessions to 'capitalism', is right out of the stinkin' bum of the Left.

How else do you define whether it's "right of center"?

The only "left wing" thing about it is the "Obamacare" name the right wing gave it.

There is no such thing as "standards of the Right".

you're probably right...

spineless jackasses...they have congress, a sympathetic white house, a sympathetic SC and they do nuthin' but mewl and hand-ring.

Now, the Left, it went monolithic, on the national level.

A friggin' commie dozer, they are, plowin' away.

The Right could learn from the Left.

Anyway: center on the 'spectrum' nowadays sits, I guess, on Marx's head, so the ACA sits next to Karl's right ear.
