Fur Face from Fate or the Accidental Corgi

I had no plans for getting another dog. My apartment is too small, the cats would have hissy fits (literally), the additional vet bills would be a burden, plus my last Corgi was an inbred mess sold to me by a unscrupulous dealer. Matter settled.

I NEVER look at the pet section in the classifieds. I look for employment and a nicer place to rent. That's it. But a few days ago, somehow I noticed the word "Corgi" out of the corner of my eye as I scanned the paper. "Red and white Corgi puppies for sale. Call - "No more dogs," I told myself firmly. By day 3 after I'd read the ad, I had a little voice saying in my head, "Well, you could just go look at them. You don't have to BUY one." Yeah right.

So I went and looked. There were 5 pups, all sound asleep. One woke right up, however, and came to look me over. He put his paw through the chicken wire enclosure and looked up at me and barked. Now the voice told me, "This is fate. Since when are Corgi's EVER advertized in the local paper? And you NEVER look at the pet ads, so why did you now? The Flying Spaghetti Monster WANTS you to have a Corgi." The pup tried to get over the enclosure to see more of me while his litter mates continued to sleep on.

OK, already! I'll take him!

His name is Wyn (pronounced "win") and it means "friend" in Welsh. He's 9 weeks old, has practically house trained himself, and is the smartest little pup I've seen in quite sometime.

Yesterday, he got to meet another new person for the first time (my friend, Jim) and Wyn was not in the least bit shy or timid around him. After that Wyn got his first ride in the truck sans crate and took to as though he'd been a long haul trucker his entire life till now.

I decided to give him a probationary period at the Bates for a job as watch dog in charge. No problemo. "What else do you want me to do, Mom?" First pup pix attached:

1) Like desperados waiting for a train.

2) Are we at Canyonlands yet?

3) On patrol at the Bates.

4) And Wyn and his Mom

That's a pretty cute dog, Sam. The only other corgi I know of is Ein. This is auspicious. Congratulations.

Thanks, guys!

@ BigV - thanks for the link to Ein - never heard of him before. If you've ever seen the movie, "The Accidental Tourist" with William Hurt, the co-star was a Cardigan Welsh Corgi named Edward (Wyn is a Pembrook). So now you know TWO famous Corgi's - actually, make that THREE!

My Nan and Grandad had a beautiful corgi when I was younger. He was called Sooty. Dead clever little bugger he was.

Family friend Maureen had a corgi called Polly when I was growing up.
I found it so odd.
The QUEEN had corgis. How come Maureen had one, living on the same council estate as us?
To me it was as incongruous as her having a Rolls Royce.
(please note the above is child-thinking, not a criticism)

I'm glad Wyn is making you happy. I'm sure it's fully reciprocated.
Fingers crossed he doesn't start redecorating the Bates the way Carrot is redecorating Dani's!

How are the cats though?

What's he gonna do, cute 'em to death?

Good lookin' doggeh. I, too, have heard Corgi's are smart as whips.
