August 23, 2007: Scary facial tumor [kinda graphic] and giant hand

Reuters has the video of this gent, Huang Chunsai, a story that was also sent to IotD by a user whose name I can't match to a Cellar userid.

Chunsai has lived as a recluse until now, at age 31, when docs say they want a shot at removing this stuff. He's survived the first operation, removing 10kg of tumor... less than half of the entire 23kg. But he pretty much still looks like a mutant.

And this is after that first operation. Repeat, the above picture is after. The video shows him in much worse condition, before the operation. It really is much worse, even more gross, so be notified.

If that wasn't enough. No, this is a different guy in China; Lui Hua was born with a birth defect where his thumb and first two fingers kept on growing and growing.

It's Jabba the Hut. I'd like to see CSI take fingerprints from the second guy. :p

There is not a recipe out there that would get me to eat this IotD.

A few years soaking in the flesh-eating fish spa should clear that right up!

What is it with China and defects, especially facial defects, of this kind? Is this happening in America or other places or what? Everytime something like this comes up, it is a person from China...so weird!

A.) China has a lot more people, so statistically, they're going to have more people with unlikely diseases.
B.) China's environmental policies aren't exactly what ours are. Crazy-ass chemicals are abundant in the air and water.
C.) China's healthcare system is horrific. Someone in the U.S. might get a tumor like this--and about the time it was the size of a grape, they would go to the doctor and have it removed. No such option in rural China.

You get cases like these from Africa, too, but they're even less likely to get volunteer medical assistance and thus be reported on.

I think that China has something like half the world's population - so it would translate into more occurrences there.

or like lumberjim said, it's the tinkle in the

What gets me, is how small in stature he is. Seeing him next to the nurse (assuming she's not Yao Mings' sister), he's probably not more than 4" or so.

I'm guessing it stunted his growth. The article mentions the fact that he was teased at school for the tumours, so he's had this a long time.
