History of Watkins Glen, NY

The famous Watkins Glen Race Course was preceded by F-1 street/road racing such as is still practiced in Monaco to this day.

What a great picture!

I'm not quite sure about the caption, though. I'm not sure where the "F-1" bit comes from and a quick look at the entry lists would seem to indicate that the photo was actually taken at the 1948 Watkins Glen Grand Prix - the inaugural event at The Glen.

I'd love to know where you found the photos.

You're right it was the '48 race, my map is dated 1950. I shortened Grand Prix to F-1 without thinking, my bad.
