Nuts!
I love nuts. They are the best snack ever. I found a great commerical can of mixed nuts - it was from Planter's - it had pistachios, almonds, pecans, peanuts and filberts. It was great - except for the filberts.
So when it comes to mixed nuts, what is your ideal mix? My ideal is anything without Brazil nuts and filberts. The rest of them can stay. The above can was really good, but it would be better without the filberts.

I think you post must win some sort of record for the number of times you can say "filberts." What, did you have a bet?
I love the cashew nuts. Peanuts a good. Walnuts and almonds are OK. Brazil nuts are yucky. I'm not even sure what a filbert is. It that the kind of acorn looking one? I don't like those. |

A quick Google search tells me that a filbert is the nut I know as a hazelnut. I don't care for those. They love 'em in Germany. Marzipan is made from them, so is Nutella, Europe's answer to peanut butter.
Yuck. |

Excuse me, glatt, but the principal ingredient in marzipan is almonds, not hazelnuts, filberts, or any other nut. Trust me, I know from nuts. (aplogies to wolf)

All nuts are tasty to me, roasted and salted, yum. I like pecans, cashews, walnuts. They're all good. And adding a candied coating a'la honey roasting or toffee. *swoon* I'll finish the can on my own, thankyouverymuch.
Filberts are ok, they're hazelnuts y'know. As far as hazelnuts go, I **love** the taste of Frangelico liqueur.

I love giving chestnuts to women.
But seriously, my favorite nuts are honey roasted peanuts. It has to be Planters though, the generic store-brand doesn't have a thick enough coating of honey. Edit: typoman strikes again! Last edited by laebedahs; 01-18-2006 at 04:34 PM. |

There is a nut roaster at the Pennsylvania Rennaissance Faire that makes these awesome honey roasted cashews sometimes. Mostly they do peanuts and almonds which are good, but not as phenomenal as the cashews. I've seen the roaster at other events, but he only does the cashews for the renfaire.

For the last 15+ years, I’ve been buying pecans, cashews, macadamias and pistachios from Sunnyland Farms in Albany, GA.
By buying large quantities and timing shipments to various family members carefully, there's usually some left when I get there for the holidays. Superb quality and great people to deal with. They also have a host of other products, like pecan halves coated with sugar & cinnamon or orange glaze, things with chocolate and dried fruits.
