Any Helmet fans out there?

I don't spend a lot of time in the entertainment forum, but... Helmet is releasing their first album in years on October 5th. Their style has evolved quite a bit from the early '90's and the small club days of their first major release Strap It On , but it is still easy to identify a song written by Page Hamilton.

Although Hamilton is by most accounts a pretty arrogant prick, he is responsible for a lot of the sounds that todays heavier bands use. His sycophants may be mistaken that he "invented" drop D tuning, but he did bring it to the forefront and start a lot of bands down a different path.

So are there any other Helmet fans in the cellar? or are the cellarites asking, "who the hell is helmet?" Did any of you catch Hamilton's other project Ghandi ?

I heard the new single on Rhapsody a couple of weeks ago...it's pretty good.

Betty was the best record released in 1994...easily. That's probably my favorite, though all their CDs are pretty good.

Betty was a good album, but not their best. it actually relied too heavily on Page's old band Band of Susans for inspiration.

Their most influential album was of course, Meantime - that one made them legends. Before that they used to play on the same shitty little stagein the the same shitty little club we did. then that album hit and they were playing big ass shows.

Aftertaste was a good album as long as you are open to bands growing and evolving.

They are in Phoenix on 10/30. I'll probably go if the tickets are cheap. They are great live.

I remember how jaws dropped in the music industry when Helmet inked the deal with Interscope...

Helmet was able to maintain its core sound while being flexible to the changing times...and based on the new single, that still seems to be the case.

i'd have to agree. i think hamilton has done a very good job staying ahead the times. it's got to be strangely satisfying the the sound he was ridiculed for 10-15 years ago is copied and recopied by many of the big bands out there.
