Bible classes bill in Legislature
4/3/2007 4:40 PM
By: Associated Press

A Texas House bill that faced a hearing Tuesday would require school districts to offer high school-level courses on the Old and New Testaments.

Rep. Warren Chisum, R-Pampa, filed HB 1287 to make Texas the first state to require public schools to teach elective bible classes.

Chisum says the measure would allow students to investigate links between the Bible and the U.S. system of laws. But critics say such courses tend to promote religious views that discriminate against various other faiths.

Chisum also filed HB 167 to exempt bibles and holy books from being seized by creditors to pay off a debt.

"As the State of Texas continues to face challenges with the effects of the continued war on terror, drug clashes on the border, and lack of equal healthcare and education, it is necessary for each individual of this State to maintain their sense of security through their perspective faith or religion," the bill analysis reads.

Another bill by Chisum also seeks parental approval before a student can take a human sexuality class.
Texas does need to be it's own nation... and we need to tow it out to sea.
Religion harms our nation more and more every day.

Funny, we feel the same way about Florida.

In Florida, doctors, school nurses or any health provider who finds that a girl under 16 is pregnant would have to tell the police, under a bill anti-abortion lawmakers are pushing in the Florida Legislature, reports the International Herald Tribune, 9 March 2007.
What's that you say? It takes more than introducing a bill to make it a law?

This is more of the kind of alienating absolutist crap that glatt was talking about.

I agree, religion is a cancer that needs to be routed out, exposed and removed from all corners of government; in all ways, shapes and forms. At any time, ever.
There should be penalties for trying to introduce bills that contain religious language, breeching the separation of church and state.

I sort of understand the mandatory reporting of a pregnancy; statutory rape may be the reason a girl is pregnant.

But mandatory bible classes? Oh please.

What if she's still a virgin? After all, Mary was only 15 when she got pregnant.

I'll help you purge yourself of the government's religious references by taking all of your currency off your hands.

But seriously, the thing about Texas wasn't really necessary. There are some of us who don't push our religion down the throats of others, so it's a little extreme to say we need to be towed out to sea.

Except, perhaps, in Georgia.

Such as? If you have a misconception that all people from Texas are bible thumpers who don't recognize the necessity for the separation of church and state, what else can I do to change that other than posting it on a forum?

Should I come to your city of residence in Florida and hold a seminar or something?

Be more careful about statements concerning the purging of entire groups rkzen, especially references to cancers and such. I could make a far stronger argument for that comparison to be made to social liberals who advocate the removal of all darwinistic pressures from society, but that'd be a great way to kill credibility. A little less emotional rhetoric please.

True Dat...

Which is why I brought it up. Of course I could just be a Negro child in inner city Philly who has no frigging idea who my baby daddy be... then all would be ok.
