June 18, 2009: lightning Strike

From an email, I got these pictures showing the results of a lightning strike on a plane.
There wasn't much information, but from the pictures you can see it's a ASA( Atlantic Southeast Airlines) plane.
ASA is a Delta Connection carrier, flying small Bombardier jets.

I'd hate to be the one doing that pilot's laundry.

That's what the email fishermen want you to think..

It was caused by a circuit breaker failure that burned the entire circuit breaker panel out and melted the wall - while the plane was grounded and being powered by shore power.

I see a dolphin! No wait, it's a shark! Ummm... errr... no, I've decided that it's Alfred Hitchcock. Is that why they painted "Danger" on the plane?

Welcome, Derek!

Pretty cool photos! I was completely intrigued when i saw this to get some more pictures from it... unfortunately i came across this:

ASA Airlines flight 5533, a Bombardier CRJ-200, experienced a cockpit fire on the ground shortly after external power was applied to the airplane in preparation for flight. The captain and one flight attendant evacuated the airplane via an airstair without injuries. They were the only individuals on the airplane at the time. The fire department extinguished the fire after it had burned an approximate 18 inch hole through the left upper cockpit crown skin. The flight, intended to be conducted as Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 121 scheduled service, was to be flown from Tallahassee Regional Airport (TLH), Tallahassee, Florida, to Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), Atlanta, Georgia.

It happened on Sunday March 1, 2009.

Bummer... would have been a pretty cool lighting strike. Anyone have some marshmellows to roast?

My daughter is a pilot for Delta Connections. She flies an Embraer ERJ 145--the "Brazillian Princess". Her plane was struck by lightening once, in flight, leaving a small ding in the airplane. No great damage, but rather stressful! I'm relieved that this happened on the ground with no injuries to people.

Interesting. I've never in my life heard of a female commercial pilot (if for no other reason than a large number of commercial pilots are ex-military.) When did she decide on that as a career path?
